Bookies offs have changed again, yes & no nearly head to head in family referendum..
Where are the exit polls?

OP posts:
Owannanassiam · 09/03/2024 00:15

Sorry if this has been discussed already.

I was shocked when I went (to vote NO) earlier that the voting sheet had Yes first and then No. Arent the options listed alphabetically in all these voting situations. Aren't the candidates in elections listed alphabetically rather than the government parties listing their candidates first. Am I wrong on this.

VoteNONO · 09/03/2024 00:24

I voted No No. I actually didn't know the way they are supposed to be listed. That's interesting.

I'm very worried about the lack of exit polls. The cynical side of me thinks there's far too many European & Worldwide organisations such as the WEF invested in a yes vote that it will be passed come hell or highwater..

OP posts:
itsagranddayfordrying · 09/03/2024 00:33

I thought the voting card was very unclear . I voted no no

Owannanassiam · 09/03/2024 00:34

I voted No No absolutely. Info below from citizens information that it's alphabetical.

The listing on the ballot paper was the last straw for me that proved we have a more corrupt government than most dictatorships and sadly most can't see thro it. The date was selected to fall on international women's day and mother's day weekend to play into the optics that it's in women's interests to gave a yes.

VoteNONO · 09/03/2024 01:00

@Owannanassiam that's unreal. Should have been listed as No Yes.

I was feeling very optimistic this evening but as the night has dragged on with no opinion polls I'm feeling disheartened. What's going on behind the scenes. I don't think their bosses in Europe & the WEF will take No for an answer somehow...

OP posts:
miri1985 · 09/03/2024 01:15

I think having them listed as no and then yes would be more confusing.
I looked it up and repeal was listed as yes then no and so was marriage ref

This was repeal

Thanks for starting this thread - whatever the result, we're going to need somewhere to chew over it.

For me having the 'no' box and the end seemed quite good - like signing something at the end, rather than half way through. Anyway, we can dance our way up and down 15 or 20 names on an electoral ballot paper, so we should have been able to manage this where all we had to do is put an 'X'.

festivefavorites · 09/03/2024 07:19

Thanks for starting the new thread @VoteNONO.
I don't think the yes no layout was unusual for referendums. I think the surge in voting in the evening is not unusual either in that most people are at work.
I still think it will be a yes to the family. no to the care outcome.
The lack of exit polls is very unusual though. I don't ever recall there being none at all. There has been a lack of interest in this referendum though by the bigger newspapers.

VoteNONO · 09/03/2024 07:20

@DeanElderberry no word this morning on any predicted results😭

OP posts:
VoteNONO · 09/03/2024 07:22

@festivefavorites our local polling centre was very busy last night. I think if they held the refs on a Saturday they would get a much stronger turnout but according to RTE it ended at 50% which is stronger than they predicted

OP posts:
Helengreggregson · 09/03/2024 07:25

It was a no no from me and everyone I’ve spoken to but I can see it getting through. The wording is too ambiguous. Also i heard it cost 26 million to organise the whole thing which is just ridiculous.

That is a fairly high return for a Referendum. Maybe a turnout of protest votes or maybe the NGO's rallied the troops 😂.
I am seeing conspiracy theories on X that the boxes were sealed with cable ties. I didn't notice so I don't know how true that is.
But I think, leaving aside the conspiracy theories, it does reflect a lack of trust in the government. The Ditch articles will have done nothing to stem that lack of trust.

Helengreggregson · 09/03/2024 07:29

@Owannanassiam there is something distinctly irritating about the way it was organised on international women’s day I must say.

VoteNONO · 09/03/2024 07:31

@Helengreggregson the cost really angers me, we're in the middle of a cost of living crisis.
They are making cuts to SEN provision in primary schools regarding allocated hours for SEN children. Also the school transport system is a shambles. Those millions would have made a big difference in education.. And Sinn Féin claiming to run it again speaks volumes about what type of leaders they would be if they are happy to waste multi millions again.

OP posts:
Helengreggregson · 09/03/2024 07:35

@VoteNONO agree there are plenty of things the money would have been better spent on.

VaddaABeetch · 09/03/2024 07:47

I predict a No No result. I think Leo & the lads can’t read public opinion. They live in a bubble.

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 09/03/2024 07:52

Voted no no also & hoping it doesn’t pass

found this link which seems to be a tracker which might be of interest later - https://irelandvotes.com/referendums2024

tho it was on the journal so can’t vouch for it being good!

DH thinks the lack of exit poll results may be a good sign as if they were winning they'd want to shout it from the roof tops last night?

There was folk on twitter saying they were exit polled, Tralee seemed to have one & somewhere in Co. Tipp

Owannanassiam · 09/03/2024 08:03

That is so interesting that referenda don't follow the alphabetical sequence. I hadn't noticed that before. So in referenda the government preference is first.....so much for it being "the will of the people".
Agree totally what a waste of money, there was a similar referendum to give children more rights and as above all its led to is less for the children.
Really hope Aontù runs candidates where I vote. They were the only ones to call this what it was.

VoteNONO · 09/03/2024 08:06

@Owannanassiam same. Aontú were very impressive throughout. We need proper conservative opposition.

Sinn Féin, FF, FG, the Greens Labour, all the same just slightly different shades of grey.

You have got to be kidding. The only thing I didn't like about by NN vote was being aligned to lunatics like this.

Was just thinking the same about Sinn Féin. They were always on the ball before. Skills honed in The North I suppose. Trying to to convince their physical force extremists to accept the peace process wasn't easy. Despite the provocations of the UDA et al and the never ending river of faeces which is the English tabloid media.

A SF member told me last week ' we have one job if we form a government : build houses. Everything else can wait'. Very sensible. But his leader has been seduced by the mirage of Identity Politics.

Let's agree to disagree on this.

Aontù represents the voice of some people including myself who have no one to speak for them at government level.
