'Working like a black' is massively, overtly racist though. That person needs a smack upside the head. You were so not precious.

You would hope people would have learnt something after the outcry when Mary O'Rourke said that same comment years ago.

Why on earth would I read the words of someone who doesn't want to talk to me ? It would be intrusive on my part and of no use to her / him as my opinions are evidently worthless.

Wakemeuuuup · 26/11/2023 18:14

@Mooshamoo You seem to have had an awful time growing up. Ireland, like most places in the world, can be racist. Particularly when immigration is new and not something people have faced before, change takes times.

I'm sorry it happened to you.

However you need to stop jumping on people here. It's sounding a lot like harassment which we can all agree is bad. It weakens your valid points and stops people listening to you.

I'm Irish, living in London. I can confirm that twitter had an awful lot of NF, EDL, best for Britain types egging the scumbags in Ireland on. It was horrifying to read. You may not have seen it but you can guarantee those who were rioting and are racist did. I don't have proof as I didn't engage in any way but I promise it happened

That was sent to chickenkeev. Have you mixed me up with someone else?

Theblacksheepandme · 26/11/2023 18:29

@Abhannmor
Of course you don't have to read it. I actually thought it gave perspective of how a black person feels. We will never know how they feel being white but we can try to understand. I would never force anyone to read anything.

DeanElderberry · 26/11/2023 18:36

It was obvious quite early in the afternoon that there were people who were not anywhere near the initial stabbing incident who had been waiting for something to give them a trigger for a fight, and that this was it. They were all over the relevant thread on Boards.ie , although the mods were zapping and banning them as fast as they could. The organisers may well all have been Irish, but it wasn't a spontaneous uprising by racist locals, it was a co-ordinated fight that some of the locals joined in because it looked like fun (and a looting opportunity).

And yes, I do know that the drug dealers' territorial aggression often gets unleashed against outsiders, including many delivery people who are visibly foreign, but visible 'not from round here' Irish people would also be in danger in those areas. It's wrong that workers in the service economy are in danger in Dublin city - a failure by police and politicians.

@Abhannmor 🤣

Glad you found that amusing. I provided some private sensitive information and you want to laugh with abhannmor about it. I'm out now and I'm going to ask if what I've put on the thread can be taken down. Some people I thought were ok clearly aren't.

Finlesswonder · 26/11/2023 19:54

You couldn't make this shit up.

So now it's the dirty old Brits to blame for the rioters in Dublin feeling empowered?

Before that it was "oh they're just totally unrepresentative young council housing lads from North Dublin" (until it was revealed they arent).

Is there any sense of "oh there's a problem here let's take responsibility" or is the narrative always going to be "we're a young country/we're a small country/it's the knackers/it's the Brits".

You'll be telling us it's the Russians next...

Agree, I have every sympathy for what’s happened there but it is on their turf not really us

Mooshamoo · 26/11/2023 20:08

That's what I thought. How utterly unbelievable to blame the Brits for the riot in Dublin.

Wasn't there a thread started by Irish people on boards.ie telling people where to go and meet to riot. It was Irish people replying and saying yeah great let's meet there etc.

Blame the Brits for our own rioting. Thats a new one. You'd nearly laugh its so crazy.

The Irish riot in their own country against foreigners - it's the Brits fault .

JaneJeffer · 26/11/2023 20:08

@Theblacksheepandme I think you should get the whole thread deleted while you're at it

@JaneJeffer it wasn't very nice of you to post a laughing emoji just when after people were talking about racism and sexual assault.

It is still not appropriate for you to post jokes now.

Why would I do that when it's clearly showing how rampant racism in Ireland is? Bit it's not our fault it's the Brits.

huggyhoo · 26/11/2023 21:36

@Wakemeuuuup on the contrary, I am still reading every word @Mooshamoo has written. Calling posters out is not harassment or 'jumping on people' and does not weaken her point.

Wakemeuuuup · 26/11/2023 22:06

The Irish idiots are the only ones to blame. I'm just saying the lap the crap that the edl etc spew.

Definitely the local Irish people to blame

mollyfolk · 26/11/2023 22:35

Mooshamoo · 26/11/2023 17:30

A lot of Irish people don't really make sense.

They constantly go on about how they were abused by the English, and abused when they went to the USA. They know that made them feel bad.

Yet a lot of people still look down on and mistreat a lot of foreigners in Ireland.

I remember a man in Ireland complaining about "the foreigners coming here and taking our jobs". I said "but didnt the Irish go everywhere and take jobs in those countries".

I honestly don’t think people constantly go on about the English. You seem to really hate Ireland.

But yes you are right we are the last people in the world who should be racist. We went everywhere- we were the immigrants. I think some Irish people are racist and I think alot of people are swept up in this - why do asylum seekers get housed when we have Irish people on the streets - narrative. But I think only a tiny percentage of them would set buses on fire or harm people. We definitely need to have more information to dispel the disinformation and conversations about racism because all those people saying - stuff about foreigners embolden people who are willing to be violent about it.

there are also loads of people who aren’t racist and who aren’t pushing this narrative.

I’m not getting the relevance?

ChanelNo19EDT · 27/11/2023 05:22

Winner wants the reader to feel like they understand the experience of being a refugee. It"s about political extremism. The blurb says. The author is irish

This has turned into an anti immigration debate both on here and in real life.....has anyone heard how the little girl is doing?? Care worker now stable.
So many on here were reporting she had died as they 'knew people in Dublin' ......I live not far from there myself..they were just vicious rumours..has anyone heard an update on how she is doing from a reliable source? It's like she has been almost forgotten in all of this.....
