That has to be the most bizarre thing that I've read about the riots so far.

Who told you that?

Do you have a single factual source to back that up?
. Before you spread misinformation on the internet

I think they were slow to twig the direction it was heading - both on the night, and the way protests have become more and more angry over the last couple of years. And I think they were out of their depth in how to deal with rioting. Both possibly down to lack of experience (I think 2006 was the last time there was anything similar). So yes, I agree.

That is shocking though. It should be the most basic thing of policing that they monitor SM.

3timeslucky · 26/11/2023 16:37

But they do monitor SM. It isn't a given that they'll interpret it correctly though. They certainly didn't in this case.

I don't follow any of the people involved in this kind of stuff so I've no idea what they post and whether it was different on Thursday and should have had the Gardai on high alert.

Hopefully there are lessons learned. They were certainly policing in a different way to usual on Friday night.

It is true and was discussed on one of the national radio stations over the weekend, I wasn't aware of this until I heard it but after having a look at a couple of such posts it was clear to see.

That's true enough, idk if there are code words etc. But you would think they'd be somewhat on top of it.

Oh wow, I made you feel like shit, priceless. I just shared how my daughter felt on Friday and how upsetting it was for her and for me to hear, and you feel like shit. I called you out on telling me you're surprised she experienced this. I gave you some interesting reading material. Can you tell me what I said to make you feel like shit? Unfucking believable.

LadyEloise1 · 26/11/2023 16:40

Dublin city centre has been a sh*t show since before Covid.

Lack of visible policing.

Theblacksheepandme · 26/11/2023 16:41

@Chickenkeev that was for.

honeyrider · 26/11/2023 16:44

There was another Dublin Bus set on fire last night.

A lot of the posts on social media inciting trouble were posted from outside Ireland mostly the UK by the National Front.

What relevance is this even if it is true? It was Irish that were rioting.

Mooshamoo · 26/11/2023 16:57

@honeyrider I've looked online and there is nothing said anywhere on any website about the riots being caused by the UK

Just because it's said on the Irish radio doesn't make it true.

How realistic is it that-
A child was stabbed in Dublin
News was sent to the UK
The UK then influenced people in Dublin to riot.

All within a couple of hours.

How could that possibly happen.

Isn't it much more likely that
A child was stabbed in Dublin
Local Witnesses spread the news around Dublin
Dublin people organised the riots.

If i said something to that effect, i wholeheartedly apologise. I had a quick look back and i couldn't find it.

Theblacksheepandme · 26/11/2023 17:06

I remember hearing a really interesting interview from a son of The Windrush generation. He said that his parents and many of them never spoke of the racism they received. You could say that because they didn't speak about it that they didn't experience it. Years later when he was older, he realised that it was just too painful for them to talk about. These people had PTSD and just buried everything. I wonder if the people saying that they have friends from different cultures and that they are happy out in Ireland and that they don't experience racism know this?

Mooshamoo · 26/11/2023 17:10

@Chickenkeev you said don't make people feel like shit for making racist mistakes.

Your post was

"I agree with you, but i would say don't make people feel shit for mistakes. Change is happening very fast, and people make lots of faux pas. People, or some people anyway, genuinely don't know better. It's a brave new world in a way. We will get there though!"

Theblacksheepandme · 26/11/2023 17:13

Chickenkeev · 26/11/2023 14:24

I was adressing Moo, who afaik is white British. I am desperately sorry to hear of your daughter's treatment. And tbh, i am surprised. It is not my experience (in that i'm a white irish woman, but i haven't witnessed iyswim). In my daughter's schools, and her friendship groups, everyone gets on and don't bother with race/religion. But i really am sorry that you and your daughter have had a shite experience.

Quite easy to find @Chickenkeev. My question is, what have I said to make you feel like shit?

Chickenkeev · 26/11/2023 15:53

It's not always covert either. I always find a trip in a taxi to be a potential racist rant. I've actually gotten out of taxis a few times for racist rants. The move away from racism will be slow and torturous, we wiĺl get there eventually but it will take time.

Agreed. I really hope we do.

Theblacksheepandme · 26/11/2023 17:29

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 26/11/2023 17:20

Of course we won't get there eventually. I think people are delusional and naive if they think racism will not exist eventually. There are a plethora of reasons why racism will always exist unfortunately.

Mooshamoo · 26/11/2023 17:30

A lot of Irish people don't really make sense.

They constantly go on about how they were abused by the English, and abused when they went to the USA. They know that made them feel bad.

Yet a lot of people still look down on and mistreat a lot of foreigners in Ireland.

I remember a man in Ireland complaining about "the foreigners coming here and taking our jobs". I said "but didnt the Irish go everywhere and take jobs in those countries".

Mooshamoo · 26/11/2023 17:32

What makes me sad is that when ireland was a poor country, we went to lots of other countries to work.

Now that Ireland is a rich country, lots of people want to come here.

Irish people don't like it, and don't remember that we went absolutely everywhere when we were poor.

It just goes to show that everyone becomes an asshole when other people come into their country.

Ireland is definitely not a welcoming country.

I realise that, but I'll hold on to a bit of hope anyway. I prefer to think that people are fundamentally decent, tolerant and respectful of others.

Yep it was Irish rioting and wrecking havoc. The home grown far right extremists have been spreading their vile views on social media for some time and have been influencing the disenfranchised as well as those who just want any excuse to kick off about something.

Bigots find other bigots just like water finds it's own level. Like lots of things the puppet masters don't get their own hands dirty but let others do their dirty work. They didn't need to be in Dublin to do that ie Conor McGregor was in Dubai and had been posting anti-immigrant comments in the days prior to the stabbings. Once news of the stabbings broke the like of Tommy Robinson and others were spreading anti immigrant comments on X and Telegram.

You haven't offended me @Chickenkeev but even if you and your family mix with different cultures, it doesn't make us experts on what's happening in Ireland. We won't see or hear what they see and hear.

It is even subtle things being said. Not in your face racism but enough to make someone uncomfortable. We must start evolving and educating ourselves. Again the younger educated generation is better. It's the older generation that I find say stupid things. I was at work recently where someone said they were working like a black. When I called them out on it, I was made feel to be precious.

'Working like a black' is massively, overtly racist though. That person needs a smack upside the head. You were so not precious.
