They mentioned her on RTE yesterday - still 'critical' which doesn't sound good four days on.

Dublincailin · 27/11/2023 09:16

Colleagues work in the hospital and all they are saying is critical.

Dublincailin · 27/11/2023 09:19

There is no information been released, could be because there is no update, simply no change that they are releasing.

It would be presumptuous of me to read something by a person who has said they don't want to talk to me @Theblacksheepandme . That's a perfectly legitimate position for them to hold and I respect that. However I've been reading black people's writings since I came across Rap Brown , Richard Wright and Stokely Carmichael in the early 1970s. Not forgetting Angela Davis and Nawal al Sadaawi. No doubt black- and brown - people's experience of racism is worsened by visibility.

We were just saying that here. God love her and her family. Hopefully she starts to improve soon.

@Abhannmor but @the

never said that she didn't want to talk to you.

What are you on about?

The only person she argued with on this thread was Chickenkeev.

There was a machete attack on Talbot St last night.
There is no control over the city.
It's horrifying.

That’s terrifying. Poor man who was attacked

LadyEloise1 · 27/11/2023 14:08

No mention of the machete attack on Talbot Street on the RTE News app afaics. Angry
DS works nearby and hates having to traverse Talbot Street.
The government and garda chiefs are a disgrace allowing our lovely city to be taken over by yobs.

I am thinking about that poor little child and her family and am hoping for a miracle.

Wakemeuuuup · 27/11/2023 14:49

This makes me so sad. Growing up there were always parts of the city you wouldn't walk alone. Talbot St, Sherrif St, Gardiner Street etc but it seems to have got so much worse in recent years.

I'm praying with every inch on my being that victims, especially the 5 year old girl, pulls through without life changing injuries. Probably useless as I'm not religious 😕

DeanElderberry · 27/11/2023 15:02

One of my aunts used to half amuse and half annoy my father by assuring him that 'the prayers of a sinner are often heard'. I'm praying for the little girl too.

Also thinking of that aunt and my father's other older siblings who grew up in that corner of the inner city (moving every six months as was common then) in the years after the rising - they saw violence and chaos, and something better emerged - maybe it can this time. Though the reason their younger siblings lived in better circumstances was because of the massive public housing building project which provided homes to thousands of families- we need that again.

I was just listening to Liveline there and they were talking about Talbot St. That it had gone worse/feral etc. I always thought it was a kip tbh, not no-go, but somewhere you'd scurry along very quickly if you were on your own.

Peridot1 · 27/11/2023 15:40

I grew up on the north side and our buses went to and from Talbot St and Gardiner St. I also worked in town and at one point worked in Parnell Street. While I would agree they weren’t the best areas I never felt unsafe there. Even late at night getting the last bus home. The whole area has changed.

DeanElderberry · 27/11/2023 15:47

I'm glad to see Le Bon Crubeen still seems to be getting excellent reviews, I always enjoyed it. Talbot Street should be safe and buzzing - just round the corner from both the Abbey Theatre and the pro Cathedral, between the station and O'Connell Street. There needs to be a concentration on renewal, not just on punishing criminals- all those people dobbing in criminal neighbours and family members are potential builders on a new, better, central Dublin (as, of course, are the pupils of the Gaelscoil).

Dublincailin · 27/11/2023 15:53

I am living minutes from O'Connell street. I can say, not keen on Talbot street don't like walking on my own, although I do and have with no issues, however I have walked up and down O'Connell street & gardiner street from day on way to and from work every day, never felt or feel unsafe.

Not comfortable with Marlborough street, that's a street I walk long way to avoid. Couldn't tell you why, just not comfortable.

Abhannmor · 27/11/2023 16:37

That whole are around Connolly Station/ Busáras / Talbot Street is best seen around 7am. Arriving on a ferry and getting a bus or train the fuck out of it. Such was my last experience of the place. Looked dreadful of course but the scobes are all sleeping off the drugs so relatively safe.

It only seems like yesterday I listened to a senior Garda officer explaining that there is no drug problem in Dublin. People who say there is are ' a rent a mob ' with a political agenda. That was 1981. Were they really that stupid? Or just indifferent. Or scared . Paid off . Some combination of the above?

But, but, what about Guineys and the bargains! I go down Nth Earl St. and Talbot Street specifically to have a nose around Guineys. The last of those shops where you can get great linens, bedclothes, mats, rugs, you name it, and upstairs they get the "end" runs of trainers and boots. Got a magic pair of waterproof ankle boots fur lined there a couple of weeks ago for 14.99. I'm no snob and like my late mother I love a bargain. Mam will never be dead while I'm alive.

Guineys is not just in Dublin you know! They have shops in all four provinces.

Culchies, Dubs and Boggers alike love them!

Love Guineys, great bargains, good for a rummage. But yes that area isn't the best, it feels on edge, and I agree about Marlborough St I hate having to go down there. I do wonder what effect the opening up of the Cleary's building will have. It looks so run down around there. It would be nice to think all this would kick start some investment in the local communities and in policing, but who knows.
