Unlinked because I can't remember how to do it, and can't find Help thing.

A friend of mine had to bring her ds into hospital in December '19 with a high temperature. They were put into a separate ward and staff were masked. That was unusual.

I heard of a woman in her forties who died from pneumonia after a brief illness, previously healthy.

It could be coincidental but it would make you wonder. I remember a lot of illness during the run up to Christmas that year. It was a relief to get to Christmas day that none of us were sick.

Emeraldshamrock · 01/03/2021 19:47

I had to leave work over Christmas DS oxygen was down to a wisp, I assumed then it was tonsillitis again we phoned the out of hours doctor too.
I forgot that. It gives me a bit more confidence as I slept beside him that week. Thank you.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 01/03/2021 19:57

God that must have been scary @Emeraldshamrock Sad

I hope the Guards are all over this next "protest" if it does go ahead.

SionnachRua · 01/03/2021 20:05

Oh, I absolutely wouldn't expect to be told why the teacher is out, but dc arrived home today to say their teacher is out for two weeks and they have a sub (who apparently has no name hmm ). I'm just curious whether it's usual, I trust the principal knows what she's doing.

It's unusual imo but I think it's good to tell kids that teacher will be back at a certain date, if they're sure of that happening. Kids like certainty. It'd be a bit disappointing for them if the date has to be pushed out further but I'm sure there'll be a good reason.

I'm pretty sure I had Covid last Easter but I've no proof of it - partner was totally fine aside from losing smell and taste, while I was laid low with a flu type thing that drained all my energy! It was madness, I couldn't even concentrate enough to stir a saucepan or watch TV.

One of my good friends ended up in ICU with Covid. He's a young guy, long distance runner, fit and healthy. He's out now thankfully but it'll be a long recovery, he's not able to get up the stairs without pausing midway yet.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 01/03/2021 20:07

Gosh, Emeraldshamrock, that was very scary.
We will all be on tenterhooks again with the return to school.

Iblinkedandiamold · 01/03/2021 20:43

Yeah my sister and a girl I work with were sick Christmas 2019 and exhausted for weeks after it.

Emeraldshamrock · 01/03/2021 21:34

I don't know why they didn't organise an online petition/protest if against lockdown rules.
Garda and teachers should be on a high priority for vaccinations.

eggandonion · 01/03/2021 21:52

My friend's dd is a teacher, senior infants. At 27 she was diagnosed with ms. She's doing well...but really should be vaccinated.

I absolutely agree that Gardai interacting with the public and teachers should be vaccinated.

On a lighter note, I had my eye on a dress on Dunnes website.
However it's sold out online.
Was in getting a few groceries in my local Dunnes and walked past the clothing, which was cordoned off by tape.
There were 6 of the dresses in my preferred colour hanging on a rail ( I'm sure my size was there ).
So near and yet so far Sad

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 02/03/2021 12:14

Morning all! A nice Spring day. I also agree that gardaí and teachers should be vaccinated as soon as possible.
Ah LadyEloise isn't that annoying!! Can't see the the point of clothing being blocked off like that.

CherryValanc · 02/03/2021 12:23

Clothes are blocked off because clothes shops are closed (negates the unfair advantage a supermarket gets in clothing sales) still why clothes aren't considered essential is not clear!!!

I'm about two sizes bigger than last March (covid two stone here!!) so in dire need of clothes that aren't out to crush me to death.

CherryValanc · 02/03/2021 12:24

Not a nice Spring day here!! Cold and misty this morning, overcast now.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 02/03/2021 12:31

When I say 'nice', I mean to say it's dry Grin

Iblinkedandiamold · 02/03/2021 12:39

I wonder if you picked up the clothes and brought it to the till would they sell it to you?

TheLongRider · 02/03/2021 12:40

@LadyEloise You can do click and collect in Dunnes. I had to go that with a winter coat for DD. I went to customer services, ordered the coat online on the Dunnes website and the lady went and collected one from the shelves and gave it to me. It took less than 5 minutes to get it set up between the two of us.

CherryValanc · 02/03/2021 12:54

Well, then it's a nice Spring day here too!!!

I'm still up for moving Ireland further south, Not too much, just enough to get some sun

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 02/03/2021 13:17

I'm all for it

LadyEloise · 02/03/2021 14:18

I understand completely about clothes being blocked off.
It's just annoying that it's not available on the website yet there are loads of them in the shops.
The shop assistant said " Sorry we can't sell them."
Fair enough- clothes shops can't open so there is more of a level playing field.

In the scheme of things with what's going on in the world it's a very very very minor inconvenience.

Number3BigCupOfTea · 02/03/2021 14:22

I need a pair of ''runner boots'' as I call them at my advanced age, and the first pair I ordered, they arrived ok, but they looked so skateboarder boy I decided to send them back. Also, when I tried them on, I realised that it was an American 5! They were tiny!! Luckily the return process was not too complicated. Still though. PITA

So then I ordered another pair, pewter leather runner boots with a side zip, 99 pounds from a uk site. This morning I got an email from DPD to tell me I owed 18.50 duty on them Shock

What a shock to the system. I must be careful to order only in euro from now on.

I look forward to going to a shop and touching the merchandise!

NewjobOldme · 02/03/2021 14:25

I have to pass a tourist attraction on my way to/from work. I was very surprised to see a line of mini buses parked up today. No tourists visible at the buses so they were obviously looking around.
I didn't realise this was happening.

NewjobOldme · 02/03/2021 14:26

This tourist attraction is in Ireland, forgot to mention that.

eggandonion · 02/03/2021 14:57

That's strange.
I was working in click and collect land in November, it felt much safer than real shop December. I hate online shopping.

NewjobOldme · 02/03/2021 18:12

My DH thinks they were parked waiting to collect from school but I don't think there is a school that close.
Anyway I'm probably just jealous. I live in what must be one of the most boring 5kms possible.

eggandonion · 02/03/2021 18:15

You have a tourist attraction though!

OP posts:
Iblinkedandiamold · 02/03/2021 19:25

@Newjob I have a tourist attraction where I live too, not 100 percent sure if the tourists know it's there but still, my area is also boring. Having said that I wouldn't live anwhere else,I love it I just hate not being to leave it from time to time.
