Exactly @JaneJeffer. I was in the hairdresser before Christmas and there 2 or 3 other people there. It's a huge space so we were all separated.
I suppose it's a way of cutting down movement but you feel so much better when you come out, who doesn't need a bit of a lift now.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 27/02/2021 17:08

The absolute state of my hair at the moment makes a haircut very much "essential" Have we any idea at all when they might be allowed open??

Radyward · 27/02/2021 18:57

I think the govt have lost the people and need to resign due to their shambolic pandemic handling -the vaccine roll out is a whole other thread !!
Its nightmare scenario for so many businesses and no hope given from the govt. Im not one bit surprised at the marches.
People have an absolute right to protest but not to incite violence / or hurt people obviously. Our freedoms are being eroded with no signs of change. Not 1 bit surprised.i would imagine many around the country quietly support these people. A govt with complicit media/ can ride rough shod over peoples daily lives with no pertinent questions asked of them ever. No questioning of lockdowns etc etc etc no questioning of policy. There is no all in this together. There never was. The govt just deflect and blame someone else for failures.

5%of Irelands population vaccinated so far. Its disgusting the treatment of some industries and gardai dancing around ( its actually nauseating ) with guaranteed wages - Martial law with no let up with no end in sight. What the vaccine now isint the be all and end all ? What restrictions still in place by year end ?? What !! .
People have had enough and are rebelling BUT behind doors all over the country young and old are not complying fully any more .
Govt.on thin ice. And they know it !! People need to remember others are allowed independent thought and dont have to think the same as everyone else. If you open your business/ its nearly you must want people in icu.!! Give me strength . There is no winning against the constant covid numbers. Cases dont mean hospital and in patient numbers are dropping !!! Thats not highlighted. I am.beginning to think nphet love the limelight and money so much- they will NEVER give it up !!

🙄

Joolsin · 27/02/2021 19:41

I don't agree with much of your post, Radyward, but I take particular issue with your assertion that the gardai are "dancing around with guaranteed wages". They are doing a difficult and dangerous job made even more difficult and dangerous by knee-jerk ignorant scrotes like those in town today. From the footage I've seen, most weren't there for "legitimate protest" anyway, just an excuse for pure badness, alleviation of boredom and the adrenaline rush of having a go at the guards.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 27/02/2021 19:44

I don't know how you can defend any action that was taken today by this bunch of thugs, Radyward

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 27/02/2021 19:48

On the subject of hairdressers.
I go to a small salon. The last two times I went, there was no physical distancing, customers were packed in, no perspex between them or at the counter. All were wearing masks at least, but it wasn't good.

eggandonion · 27/02/2021 20:15

We were spread out where I go, but no perspex. I have been twice at six, possibly because my hair has been so dreadful they don't want people to see me going in. I miss the magazines...
It scares me to see so many people being sucked in to weird cult like activity, I had hoped that the government would use this hiatus to sort out a lot of social inequality.

OP posts:
Iblinkedandiamold · 27/02/2021 20:25

There is perspex at the sinks where I go.
You have a choice though. If the salon is too crowded dont go in. Before Christmas I walked into some shops and walked right back out as I felt it was too crowded.
There is absolutely no excuse for what happened today in Dublin.
Like Jooslin said most of those "protesters" just wanted to cause trouble.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 27/02/2021 20:28

I know, iblinkedandiamold, I should probably have not gone in, but I was desperate. I would be more careful next time, whenever that is.

Iblinkedandiamold · 27/02/2021 20:37

Sorry @IsFuzzyBeagMise I didnt mean to sound like I was criticising you, I was more thinking that it should be more or less down to us to keep ourselves safe. All Salons and shops could open with proper measures in place and we should be trusted to make good choices.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 27/02/2021 20:50

No worries, Iblinkedandiamold! I made the decision to go in, you're right there. I thought that it would be better run with social distancing in mind, but they had a backlog of customers and wanted to get around to everyone as quickly as possible.
In spite of that, I like my hairdresser and don't want to change salon.

eggandonion · 27/02/2021 21:50

I was in work on Christmas eve, my dd was helping me. She was delighted when she told our td to wait outside for a few minutes until customers left. He seemed pleased to be told.
I haven't been back to work since, I missit!

I honestly don't know why anyone bothers engaging with that poster tbh.

My hairdressers definitely has better Covid measures than the school I work in! It's not that we aren't trying btw. It's that there is feck all that we can do in our setup. I'm happy to go back but I'd prefer it if the Government just admitted that there are no safety measures, instead of the nonsense they keep spouting.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 27/02/2021 23:46

I know, SionnachRua. It's the same old tune from the Dept of Ed, all the time.

LizzieAnt · 28/02/2021 00:26

Absolutely agree with you SionnachRua. This "schools are safe" rhetoric we keep hearing from Norma Foley is just nonsense. In a letter sent to schools /parents last week she said

"Public health has reviewed the measures put in place to ensure safe operation of schools and is satisfied that these infection prevention and control measures, when rigorously adhered to, will keep the school community safe during this period. "

But clearly it's unknown how safe schools are now and what the impact of reopening will be - the reason for opening up in stages, cautiously, is precisely because we don't know this. And just how rigorous are small children at applying 'measures' anyway. Yes, there are good reasons for opening schools, but saying they're safe is insulting.

We're getting letters from our school too saying how teachers are fully equipped with ppe and protective clothing. Rough translation = a mask for the teacher, and they'll be supplied with a pair of gloves if a child throws up. Tell it like it is for heaven's sake!

CherryValanc · 28/02/2021 00:30

I find it odd that it's the youngest that are back at school first as I imagine they aren't the best at social distancing. I understand that they aren't as able as older children for remote learning but stoll it just seems odd!!

Agreed ... lots of stirring the pot in the posts. Quite confused about where they live.

Iblinkedandiamold · 28/02/2021 09:34

Seriously what is wrong with me. I am in tears watching operation transformation. I am so emotional lately. I am also Jealous that Andrew did it so quickly.

Taytocrisps · 28/02/2021 11:17

@Iblinkedandiamold I watched the last three episodes and got totally drawn in. I also cried during the final. I'm normally a bit cynical.

M0rT · 28/02/2021 11:40

I have noticed this year I really enjoy programmes with normal Irish people, Operation Transformation, Googlebox etc
I think it's because my social world has shrunk so much.
I was very impressed with Andrew, but more so Hazel & Sharon.
They just kept plugging away, even with work and kids and a lot of emotions to deal with.
They all seemed to have lovely supportive families this year too. Makes a massive difference.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 28/02/2021 11:56

Yes. I think they did brilliantly, especially those two ladies.

eggandonion · 28/02/2021 12:55

I think we have watched a lot of telly, just to see real people, or made up people, due to lack of people we know!
Are we going to run out of telly to watch?Filming must be challenging.
