Unlinked because I can't remember how to do it, and can't find Help thing.

Mam and I have been having a very detailed conversation about her hotpress.

I think I've had that conversation with mine. There was also quite a lot of detail about those saucer things you put under plantpots. Grin

@LifeInAHamsterWheel, staying roughly as we are with schools closed until after the end of the Easter holidays wouldn't surprise me in the least.

I did gloomily say to a TD (high-ranking, with a ministerial portfolio, though not education or health) the other day on phone about something entirely different that while it would kill me if schools didn't reopen this academic year, I wouldn't be that surprised. I think I was hoping he would roar with laughter and tell me I had a catastrophising tendency, but he didn't.

I mean, I don't think he necessarily knows anything more than the rest of us, but I wasn't consoled.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 15/01/2021 11:31

'I agree with that' meaning I think it could be the case, by the way.

I can't see schools going back in February.

AnnieJ1985 · 15/01/2021 12:04

Easter is so early this year, that I wouldn't be that surprised if the schools being closed dragged on until then. In any case, I don't see them opening before midterm. I am expecting a drip of rolling it on by a fortnight or so at a time.

I have no knowledge on this btw (I don't even have kids, so no personal interest), but in my own work, Q1 is looking very very quiet.

eggandonion · 15/01/2021 12:23

I think after midterm would be pushing it? They seem to have added a week into the gap between Pfizer jabs?
I'd love a high rack thing in my hot press to keep spare pillows and duvets. Adult kids move house, bring these home, go somewhere and buy new ones.

Ah... this reminds me of the other conversation with Mam... the amount of shite in her attic that belongs to people us who have their own attics now.

I keep promising to get a skip, but, well... Covid

eggandonion · 15/01/2021 14:04

Ok, so two people have snippets of information from high ranking types. Any further comments from such sources will be gratefully received. Especially unsubstantiated rumours.

Oh, I make no claims at all that mine bears any relationship to what's in any way likely to happen. This TD has nothing to do with Health or Education, and he wasn't even on TD mode.

I was just depressed he didn't say 'You and your crazy dystopian fantasies about homeschooling continuing for the rest of this academic year!'

Iblinkedandiamold · 15/01/2021 14:48

I'm going back to work next week. Just 2 days a week so far unless more children join. Not very many children in so not that nervous really

eggandonion · 15/01/2021 15:06

Can we play Guess the TD? It is a man TD. Leo? Although I think Leo would give away a lot of gossip.
I really miss going to work - actually getting up, rushing around, and going. And nipping out to buy staples and elastic bands.

Yeah new thread 👍

Only sitting down now. Classes just finished. They would have had half day if in school but not now, so they're not impressed. Been on every morning at 8.30am and off between 3pm and 4pm and homework till 8/9pm every night. Don't think they've done this much work in school. They're all wrecked and I'm drinking more 🙃

Very sad looking at the news of the doctors and nurses in covid wards not at top of list for getting vaccine, those in private hospitals have gotten it ☹️

Now with the extended period between vaccines I'm wondering what data they're working from, do they know if this will work? Tony seemed dead against it when questioned by reporters the other week when mentioned that the UK is doing it. This will probably be all fucked up. Dh checked if he's near his date to get it and gp said more than likely may 😲

He's out of work, can't be having no wages till then. Now the revenue is taking tax from the pup? Don't understand it. Can't get in revenue to check, he got a letter yesterday but it's gobbly guk.

Got word this morning that niece has covid, another one to add to our list, I am finding it hard to feel sorry for her, even though she says that she hasn't left the house her fb page says differently with weekend parties in her house every week.

Are you looking forward to going back to work @Iblinkedandiamold?

Hope everyone is well.

Not Leo. Anyway, I would have called Leo The Taois (The Teesh? it looks weird either way.) Grin

And I'm not playing Six Degrees of Leo Varadkar -- it would turn out we all know one another's cousins' boyfriends' GAA coaches from way back, or something.

Iblinkedandiamold · 15/01/2021 16:09

I was with nervous trepidation. I then read about a creche in Dublin that had to close because of wide spread covid infections. Still they probably had a lot more children. It'll be good to get out of the house but still. I dunno.

eggandonion · 15/01/2021 16:19

I know a Simon, he has no idea who I am though. Yes we all know each other in Ireland!
My elder dd has had two serious boyfriends. Dh has a sil. Sil went to school with boyfriend number ones aunt. She knows boyfriend number two's mum's family. We all live as far apart as possible in ireland. We have all moved around a lot.

You can go nowhere.

Lipz · 15/01/2021 17:42

Is that right 50 deaths yesterday 😲😲 oh wow that's high.

LadyEloise · 15/01/2021 17:45

*@AnnieJ1985

  • ".....about the shite in her attic that belongs to people us who have their own attics now."

GrinGrinGrinlove it

Your mother and my mother both.

Not so DH who was forced by his mother to bring brought his Leaving Cert books with him each time we moved, eventually to our now 3rd family home and was aghast that I threw them out.,. I won't tell you how long ago he did the Leaving but it was decades ago.

eggandonion · 15/01/2021 17:49

I can't cope with leaving cert notes - primary school homework lurks around my house. Ds will be thirty soon.
I think the high number of deaths was expected by the authorities, they tried to warn us. Fifty is about the whole of the cul de sac live in. Unbelievable, really.

OP posts:
AnnieJ1985 · 15/01/2021 17:55

@ladyeloise
Your DH may live in my house, or at least stash some of his stuff here, because my DH is very very very attached to everything he ever owned. Ever.

Mum's attic is also full of her own crap from before the house was built in 83, and stuff belonging to my sister (which she claims is mine, as I claim my stuff is hers - we have a pact to always act vague about ownership, so we never have to sort it) but the joy of the Irish country bungalow is that it would take Mum about 3 days to get to far end of the attic space. Our own attic is in a 2 bed Dublin ex-corporation terrace... so really, what does she expect.

Iblinkedandiamold · 15/01/2021 20:51

I got rid of two bags of shoes from my hot press today. Most of them were my DS'. I just shoved them I a box a d never looked at them again until today. Grin

Joolsin · 15/01/2021 21:22

Since we're talking about attics, we've had to take everything down out of ours because there's a leak in the roof ... oh my god, the crap that was up there, OH keeps the packaging of every sodding item he's ever bought, shit tonnes of stuff kept for car boot sale that didn't happen last year and won't happen this year either. As soon as the charity shops reopen, I'm giving it all away. Until then, every room in the house is crammed to bursting with it all. Aaaaaggggh!😱

Iblinkedandiamold · 15/01/2021 22:02

I did that too for years but mine was for selling on Ebay before it got too expensive to do that. Must clear out my attic. When I go back to work I wont be seeing my parents any more. These new strains are just not worth the risk. Have to something the days I wont be working.

thelegohooverer · 16/01/2021 08:21

I woke up this morning with an intense urge to put extra shelves into my hot press and I’m blaming your mum @AnnieJ1985 😂

AnnieJ1985 · 16/01/2021 08:30

Oops
I could do with more shelves higher up in mine but we would have to change the door to be able to access them. It is infuriating seeing all that space empty, it could be a thing of organised beauty.

In someone else's house, here it would still be in a heap as we pull stuff out and feck it back in, hoping that door will close

Emeraldshamrock · 16/01/2021 08:34

Joining in.
I can't see schools reopening before St Patrick's day.

hopeishere · 16/01/2021 09:03

I was talking schools with my sister yesterday we both hope half term (we are in the North) but her husband thinks Easter. I'm lucky as my younger has special needs and his school is still open.
