Unlinked because I can't remember how to do it, and can't find Help thing.

No. Unfortunately I just pass it on the way to work. It's in a different town to where I live.

Iblinkedandiamold · 02/03/2021 19:29

Highlight of my day, getting pressure washer in lidl. It doesn't need to be connected to water. My gutters will no longer be shameful.

Does moving house count as an essential journey, does anyone know? My tenant is moving out (confirmed) at the end of the month, and I know she can move because her lease is up (though technically I know she can stay longer), but am I allowed to move back given that I could stay with my Dad for a bit longer even if we are both ready for our own space back!? Just having images of being turned back at Kildare Grin

eggandonion · 02/03/2021 20:05

My daughter moved house, cross country, without any problem.

Oh, that's good to know, thanks. It's working out well timing-wise as my dad is getting his first vaccine on Thursday so will be more comfortable going to the shops and things like that after I go back.

Oh we need one of those. Must send DH in to see if any are left in our local store.
Iblinkedandiamold · 03/03/2021 13:24

I'm dying to use it but Hope it works the way I think. As in you can have a barrel of water and it works with that. I haven't even opened it yet.

AnnieJ1985 · 03/03/2021 20:12

Quick question- do any of you have a BOI credit card? Our statement landed today but it is for Jan, not Feb. Then I realised we didn't get one last month at all. Will ring them tomorrow, just wondering if it is a wider issue, or just us for some reason!

JaneJeffer · 03/03/2021 20:21

No I've been with the Ulster Bank my whole adult life and now they're closing Sad

Number3BigCupOfTea · 03/03/2021 20:58

Same here @JaneJeffer since i opened up my henry hippo account to get a £5 golden disc voucher

JaneJeffer · 03/03/2021 22:51

Is anyone watching the programme on RTE1 about adoption? It's so sad.

eggandonion · 03/03/2021 23:13

Yes, it was a very difficult programme to watch.

The fucking nuns harassing that poor woman for money Angry

LadyEloise · 03/03/2021 23:54

And the baby wasn't even in the home. Shock

123MothergotafleA · 04/03/2021 07:52

Nothing will ever surprise me about that shameful period of history. And how about Mr de Valera!! High handed I'd say. The whole population were merely there to be bossed about by The Top People , the Church, Government and Medical Establishment.

eggandonion · 04/03/2021 09:13

And now to tell people they were illegally adopted, but we won't be able to tell you anything else. The poor brother and sister who traced each other...then were not related. Or the people in Ennis, who married and had more children.

I'm watching it. I had to take a break the cruelty and treatment was appalling. Sad
My Nanny had a baby in 1939 she was 15 she never ever spoke about it, her Dsis told my aunts as adults, it was never discussed. She was very religious we would have to pretend we went to mass regularly she died in 90's with her secret.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 04/03/2021 13:36

That's very sad, Emeraldshamrock. My grandmother's sister spent her life in a home, but I don't know the circumstances. She was put in by her father. One of her brothers cut ties with his family over it and moved to England. My grandmother used to visit her 'friend' occasionally until she died.
I'll catch up with that episode on the player.

JaneJeffer · 04/03/2021 14:23

On a cheerier note look at this starling murmuration at Lough Ennell. Amazing.

Yes, isn't it amazing!

eggandonion · 04/03/2021 17:01

My auntie married a man whose sister had given up a baby for adoption. Even marrying him was scandalous at the time.
The sister married a farmer, but they had no children, which seemed sad. The 'baby' traced his birth family , but everyone had died apart from my aunt. She was happy to meet him, but she wasn't who he had been looking for.
It's all so sad, for no reason.

LadyEloise · 04/03/2021 17:22

Oh eggandonion that is so desperately sad.
The laws need to be changed as soon as possible so others won't be cheated (by death ) out of a chance to meet their mother or father or siblings.

So many politicians have vowed to move things along but it's like the proverbial hot potato.

How did the birth mothers in Britain and NI cope when the records were opened up back in the 70's and 1987 respectively ?
Did the world fall apart ?

JaneJeffer · 04/03/2021 17:37

The man who found his mother but she denied having a baby was really sad all round.

LadyEloise · 04/03/2021 18:30

Does anyone remember a book a few years back called An Affair With My Mother ?
The author had reconnected with her biological mother but her bio mother had not told her husband or her children and was fearful they would find out so bio mother and daughter met up surreptitiously.
The author was on tv and radio promoting the book. I wonder how it all panned out.
I hope the mother eventually felt strong enough to reveal her secret. So sad.

Emeraldshamrock · 04/03/2021 18:41

It was a cruel time. I'd bet many of those girls didn't consent to sex in the first place they were terrified of defying the church.
The maintenance money hassling the young lady at her place of work made me angry.
There was no empathy for the ladies.
