Unlinked because I can't remember how to do it, and can't find Help thing.

Good luck going back tomorrow, Iblinkedandiamold and SionnachRua.
I hope all goes well. It will be strange for the first couple of days, no doubt.

tazzy73 · 28/02/2021 18:39

Good luck to any of you ladies back to school tomorrow.
My DD back to school on Tuesday. She's delighted.
Stay safe!

Thank you but I'm not back for another two weeks, I teach an older class Smile But good luck to all going back! I'm jealous to tell you the truth.

Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday evening. We are making pizzas here. The Italians would cry at the travesty of a pizza I'm putting together.

eggandonion · 28/02/2021 20:43

We had a Saturday pizza from Super Valu, an expensive frozen pizza. It was good, but would be ok for lunch...it is thin, so would work out expensive with kids.
I hope school goes well, those protests could have messed up our progress. I'd like teachers vaccinated, to make them feel more confident.

I just hope I remember to get up and go to work tomorrow morning instead of going in at 2pm. Grin

Emeraldshamrock · 01/03/2021 00:21

I'm really scared sending the DC tomorrow as I'm sure many parents and teacher's are worried too.
Would it be terrible if I kept the younger one off.
I've everything ready but I'm really anxious.
I've spent a year keeping it out, we live in a highly infected area with lots of parents breaking lockdown rules.

JaneJeffer · 01/03/2021 00:53

I'd let them go @Emeraldshamrock because they will probably pick up on your anxiety and may not want to go back at a later date.

Emeraldshamrock · 01/03/2021 00:56

@JaneJeffer Thank you. Smile

LadyEloise · 01/03/2021 10:16

It's awful that Lipz gets fined for trying to bring her dd to a meeting about Confirmation and yet those protesters can cause mayhem in Dublin city centre.

eggandonion · 01/03/2021 11:23

I agree totally.

OP posts:
IsFuzzyBeagMise · 01/03/2021 11:56

Yes, I also agree. I think some arrests have been made and they are trying to identify others.

Pastasau · 01/03/2021 15:32

Will the older classes definitely be back in a fortnight? Reading the INTO said they (quite rightly) won't remain in schools if cases increase.... How much would cases need to increase for the older classes to remain learning online?

Barmbraic · 01/03/2021 16:01

I think it's a wait and see for the older kids. I really hope they get to go back. Dc1 was very sad at dc2 heading off this morning Sad

Bit of a tangent...does anyone's primary school let you know if their teacher is going to be out for a more than a couple of days?

Emeraldshamrock · 01/03/2021 16:39

does anyone's primary school let you know if their teacher is going to be out for a more than a couple of days?
No. The DC would mention it after school.

Emeraldshamrock · 01/03/2021 16:46

I resigned myself to the fact I am going to have to catch covid at some point with the DC back in school it was mayhem this morning all the DC are out mixing on the green ignoring the no play date rule clearly the government needed to spell out it includes unorganised play time.
15 DC from different class rooms wrestling. I had pneumonia twice and asthma in childhood it is worrying.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 01/03/2021 17:26

To be honest @Emeraldshamrock it's likely you've already had it and just didn't know. That's the stand I'm taking on it anyway. I know lots of people who tested positive due to be close contacts but they had no symptoms at all. It is likely that a lot of us have had it without knowing, hopefully that's the case for you and you won't get it again. I think it's just impossible to stop kids interacting physically at all times, though I do agree that case numbers could well rise now due to the extra mingling that will go on. Then again, with the new strains being more virulent it's likely the cases will go up anyway?

I agree that it would be good to have numbers to work towards so that we have a clearer idea of where we stand. Like if they said cases need to be below 100 per day, then it would give us something to focus on. But saying 'cases need to come down' without telling us down to what is very frustrating and doesn't really motivate people as much (in my opinion)

Pastasau · 01/03/2021 17:41

@emeraldshamrock it is the exact same in our estate, parents have signed the declaration stating their children are following the HSE guidelines yet multiple households mixing from 12 to 6 every day... The sane parents are the ones going mad about the older ones not in school yet feel their dc are perfectly entitled to do & mix with who they want 🙄

CherryValanc · 01/03/2021 18:07

Would have been interesting to have had the level of testing this time last year. So many people where ill but never got tested.

Mind you mention your symptoms on here (Mn not thus thread) and you'd be told you probably had something else or were accused of pretending.

I was ill last March. My GP couldn't have given less of a shit either. (He's a prick anyway.)

SionnachRua · 01/03/2021 18:18

Totally depends on why they're out imo. A bereavement or similar you'd probably hear about. However they're very unlikely to say anything if it's medical related leave - and often if it's illness you might not know how long you'd be out. As a general rule of thumb parents aren't told in my school, they don't need that info.

Iblinkedandiamold · 01/03/2021 18:35

When I went back to work after midterm we were all saying how tired we were over the break. Then we started wondering if we all had Covid. Grin
I'm always tired too, I measure it in tired, less tired, more tired, exhausted. Grin
It is hard being back watching Children mixing outside.

Emeraldshamrock · 01/03/2021 18:59

The news of a second protest on St Patrick's day is crazy, I've no doubt it will go ahead. There is a Facebook page for loved ones lost the victims of covid appear to be much younger after this wave in comparison to the first wave.

Barmbraic · 01/03/2021 19:05

Oh, I absolutely wouldn't expect to be told why the teacher is out, but dc arrived home today to say their teacher is out for two weeks and they have a sub (who apparently has no name Hmm ). I'm just curious whether it's usual, I trust the principal knows what she's doing.
LifeInAHamsterWheel · 01/03/2021 19:05

Definitely Christmas 2019 I think a lot of people had covid, maybe a different strain of it but honestly I've never known so many people to be so sick. I am in a close group of 5 friends and was the only one of us to not come down with it. The other 4 were so ill 3 of them didn't even do Christmas dinner! They just couldn't get out of bed. My own mum was so sick she went to the doctor between Christmas and new year and was diagnosed with pleurisy! We had so many out sick at work all with this flu/chest infection thing. I know it's a long time ago now and we'll probably never find out but honestly I do think it was covid.

eggandonion · 01/03/2021 19:24

I knew two people who ended up in hospital in December 2019. One was elderly, one was a young, fit male. He had two lumbar punctures, his consultant said it was random, weird virus.
I knew four other people who had nasty illnesses.

It makes sense December 19. My Dsis was really sick my BIL had a huge burst blood vessel in his eye from coughing too. I don't think I've had it I had tests when I had a cold twice.
