I'm actually lol'ing at the thought of my MIL who bought gargantuan quantities of tinned chicken in aspic from M&S because she was frightened that supermarket food would run out because of the Millenium Bug.

Of course nothing actually happened, so she spent years trying to palm them off on us

Fair enough, haha. My Alphas are too little to have opinions on tin openers. My Gen Z is the muscle of the house and gets roped in to use the useless one which just spins aimlessly if you don't squeeze it hard enough.

I have learnt something tonight

I remember them being more slimy than crispy (late ‘70’s). Maybe because my mum did them in the oven and I think the packet instructions were to deep fry them.

The problem is that most ( but not all) can’t handle fresh food so tinned meat of a variety of sorts is pretty important to add protein to a meal.

Maybe op was hangry when she started this thread but has since eaten all the pies, just not tinned ones.

Core memory unlocked of when now DH and I were students and I'd gone round his student house and all he had left to feed us was a frey bentos pie but he didn't own a tin opener...
