Octopus Saving Sessions

Anyone signed up for this? Payments for shifting your energy use away from peak times/within a given timeslot each day.

This is my first one, badly timed for me as it started just as I finished work. Hopefully I'll still get a little bit for it though.

Good session for us, although we did have the TV on for some of it. Let's see how we did!

How long does it usually take to get the results? Anyone got there's yet from last week's session?

Not yet! It's still saying 'give us a few days' for me

Mine has come through - 1528 points or £1.91

Got mine now too, 1336 or £1.67.

Just checked on the app and mine are now there 3104, £3.88.

I got 1280 points worth £1.60 for a saving of 79% compared to normal. Which was pretty easy as the house was empty until after the saving session was finished and there was only the fridge freezer and broadband router on.

I've also looked at the graphs in the online account and can see the energy reduction due to us finally getting rid of our 25 YO fridge freezer and getting a new energy efficient one.

So glad I found this thread! I signed up over a month ago and haven’t had any notifications yet. I’ve enabled notifications on the app and on my phone but nothing has come through. Is this normal? I’m on Intelligent Octopus Go tariff.

@sorrynotathome I don't know if it's different on iPhone but on Android it seems like notifications are now being handled more via WhatsApp than in the app itself? I think maybe I did get an in-app notification of the Saving Session on the day. That said, they will also email when the session is due. Have you signed up to Octoplus? That's a pre-requisite for taking part in the Saving Sessions.

Session announced for tomorrow 5-6:30pm. Can't actually get on to the app to sign up

I signed up but no WhatsApp so I went back in to put the alerts on and still nada on iPhone.

Yes @tribpot I’ve got Octoplus on the app and it’s showing there (with my free 500 points for signing up). How do I link up to WhatsApp? So confusing - but I do find Octopus quite clunky compared with other apps I use.

@sorrynotathome I don't really know how the link up with WhatsApp happened. I went into settings on the app and said to turn on notifications and then bish bosh I was in a WhatsApp channel. I think you can search for channels manually in WhatsApp. If you go to the Updates page, you may find it is horrifyingly suggesting you 'follow' the Daily Mail WhatsApp channel - oh and mine is currently suggesting Chelsea Football Club, so all that surveillance Zuckerberg is supposedly doing is really paying off.

Anyway, you should see a heading that says Find channels - click on 'See All' and then in the search bar at the top type in 'Oct' and it should find it.

I can’t join in again as our smart meter’s not been fixed yet. And it seems a biggie this time ☹️ £4 per kWh saved. Good luck to everyone else, hope you can earn £££

I know I'm not with Octopus but I'm with EDF and am in on it with them tonight. Might have to start my own EDF thread.

@bluevelvetbox you're more than welcome to stay here, maybe we should get the title amended to 'Energy Supplier Saving Sessions'? Some of us are old-timers from 2021 when Octopus were indeed the only supplier doing this, as a trial prior to full roll-out last winter.

For anyone who's not able to join in this time, it's worth trying to reduce your energy consumption anyway, as this event is not a drill. National Grid say electricity supply margins are expected to be tighter than normal on Wednesday evening. It does not mean electricity supplies are at risk and people should not be worried. These are precautionary measures to maintain the buffer of spare capacity we need.

Just had a notification in the app this time to say there is a session tomorrow 4:30pm to 6pm.

It's not yet in the WhatsApp channel, or on Twitter, but I can see on the National Grid data page that they have put out a request for tomorrow.

They are coming thick and fast this year!

I have just signed up for the session tomorrow. We won’t be home at that time so I’m going to make sure all switches are off before we leave and we should do pretty well hopefully.

This is another live one, which is why it's come about so unexpectedly. National Grid are saying as before not to worry, it doesn't mean we're about to run out of power. We'll be out for some of it as well, just got to get the camping lamps charged up tomorrow during the day.
