Anyone signed up for this? Payments for shifting your energy use away from peak times/within a given timeslot each day.

I cashed in £19.59 just before the session on 19th. Nothing else showing since. We are very high users, no gas.

HundredMilesAnHour · 24/01/2023 15:51

I earned £1.02 on the 19th. That was turning all the power off. But I'm not a high user (despite being all electric) as I'm on their flexible rate so putting the heating on or using the washing machine costs a small fortune. I've spent a lot of time feeling cold this winter. 😢

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 24/01/2023 16:05

Got £4.82 on 19th

Indigoshift · 24/01/2023 16:56

I saved 12p fpr the 9am session.

Quids in!

Bloody hell, cancel your direct debit that will pay your monthly bill for a bit!

What incentive is that though, seriously? They need to make it a bit more lucrative 😂

The only way they could do that for me is by calculating rewards by individual percentage savings, rather than per kwh.
I can turn everything off at the plug and cut my usage by 100% but it won't magically make my normal usage of however many tens of watts any higher.

Same! I can’t wait to get my washing on the line and not have clothes airers all over the shop that take ages to dry or sit freezing my tits off cos I have used my ‘radiator allowance’ for the day, ridiculous isn’t it!

Wouldnt be bothered but that’s paying £200 a month.

We are fortunate that we have an open fire in the lounge so are warm in there however i wont use it or the heating if the kids arent home to save on fuel (logs cost money too) so am freezing from 9am-3.30pm. Its miserable

Salome61 · 24/01/2023 17:43

I've just checked and my Octopoints for the 19th January are only 56? I switched everything off like the other sessions where I received 700+.

Feeling better tonight with this headtorch on, not long to go now, I'm starving!

HandbagsnGladrags · 24/01/2023 17:51

I'm afraid I've taken my bat and ball home now. 58p for 12th Jan. They can shove it - am not inconveniencing myself for pennies.

NewBootsAndRanty · 24/01/2023 17:53

Is your morning use usually as heavy as your evening use @Salome61 ? That might explain the difference in points.

I slept through the one on the 19th and didn't switch anything extra off - the only things on were my fridge and the central heating though which is pretty much standard for me.

Thanks for the reminder NewBootsAndRanty, I'd forgotten that was the 9-10 one. I switched everything off the night before and stayed in bed until 10 with my battery Kindle. How strange!

tribpot · 24/01/2023 18:24

1272 points for us on the 19th, but we are heavy daytime users, as I WFH, the cleaners are here in that hour and DH is at home too.

ChilliBandit · 24/01/2023 18:53

I earned 2p from the 9am session, do I win? 😂

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 24/01/2023 19:36

My octopoints page has updated with todays but not the 19th or 23rd

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 24/01/2023 19:39

Actually read it wrong. I earned £1.78 for the 19th.

WinterMermaid987 · 24/01/2023 20:28

Whoop over 5 sessions I’ve earned £2.55 I earned the most points on the session we forgot and had everything on 🥳

Rainbow1901 · 24/01/2023 22:50

Over six sessions we have clocked up £9.93 with the last two sessions still to be added.
It all helps - find it quite relaxing when we power down and sit reading kindles for an hour or so with a coffee!!

MissAmyPond · 24/01/2023 23:33

I did today's session too - we had to leave at 5 anyway for another kids club which helped, but I'm usually home around 5.30pm - I hung around at the venue for a bit instead!

No results from the 19th here either @Lottsbiffandsmudge

I'm just old enough to remember the unplanned power cuts of the late 70s/ early 80s @WhyCantPeopleBeNice and have been trying to explain to the DC that it's better to do a bit now that's within our capability, rather than potentially have more issues down the line... but again, it would be nice to think that in the many, many years since my childhood, we'd be at the point that we didn't need to do this!

MissyGez · 24/01/2023 23:47

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, just got a smart meter and only recently joined the saving session. This thread on Money Saving Expert is worth a read, unfortunately, I read this after yesterdays saving session, didnt do the one tonight:

forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6403242/octopus-saving-session/p54

What they say is as well as comparing normal usage, there is an in day adjustment, taken from the thread:

'There is a thing called the "In Day Adjustment" which takes place from 4 hours before, until 1 hour before the start of a session. This is used to "normalise" the specific day against your history.

By increasing usage in that period, you essentially make it appear that you're going to use a lot more energy today, and so your historical averages for the saving session times are increased accordingly, meaning you "save" more during the saving session'.

NewBootsAndRanty · 25/01/2023 02:54

Interesting - thanks for sharing that @MissyGez

i worked out that even though I'm not getting £££ in rewards/am a low user anyway, the points I've earned so far since the scheme began comes to the equivalent of about a week's worth of my normal winter electric charges (inc tumble drying) so I'm not complaining too much.

DelilahBucket · 25/01/2023 07:36

We got 6p from the 19th but I'm surprised it was anything at all as we weren't home and rarely would we be at that time. The evening sessions have been worth it though and no bother. We've just pushed back cooking dinner and holding off putting on the washing machine or dryer. We haven't sat in the dark as lights hardly use anything at all, and we haven't started going round turning everything off. We use a maximum of 1.5kwh in a full 24 hour period with everything on standby and the likes of the fridge/freezer running. It's minimal anyway.

RewildingAmbridge · 25/01/2023 11:02

The 19th was showing as calculating but has now disappeared, bit annoyed at that as usually DH would be WFH but we were away so everything switched off.
Yesterday's is showing as 0p but not why usually it takes longer than a day to calculate

NewBootsAndRanty · 25/01/2023 12:23

So on the 19th I saved a massive 80 watts by being asleep and doing nowt. I presume my fridge was in the lower consumption bit of its cycle during that hour or something.
