National grid warning of difficulties tomorrow evening- they're getting ready to fire up coal fired power stations.
Hence the request to cut down- and 50% more saving this time.

It's tricky for me at 5-6 on a Monday due to the kids clubs etc, but I think I'll change the meal plan and use the slow cooker during the day.

MissAmyPond · 23/01/2023 10:09

I've joined for tonight too - we usually go out not long after 5pm for a kids club, so hopefully this one will be reasonably easy for us!

Passportpondery · 23/01/2023 10:18

5-6 is better timing for us. Kids have had hot meals at school/nursery today so can have a sandwich dinner. I can wait till after 6 to cook for me and DH.

tribpot · 23/01/2023 15:46

The Guardian is reporting that there may be a second session tomorrow between 4:30 and 6:00 - you can see an advance requirements notice here. Guardian article says this one may be called off if the weather improves - it's certainly due to be warmer here tomorrow and Wednesday.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 23/01/2023 17:45

Its become normal for my kids, we say we are doing a challenge and they just accept it as normal which is great for power cuts but also makes me a bit sad that this is life now

Flapjackquack · 23/01/2023 17:54

@smilingthroughgrittedteeth - I feel the same, I was thinking earlier how has it got to this.

WhyCantPeopleBeNice · 23/01/2023 17:59

@smilingthroughgrittedteeth and @Flapjackquack i see this a little differently and think isn't it amazing we can all pull together and lower our usage so much that a) they don't need dirty energy and b) those that really need power still get it and there's no unplanned power cuts

Flapjackquack · 23/01/2023 18:01

Oh I see that @WhyCantPeopleBeNice - I was thinking more along the lines of how is it 2023 and we are still so reliant on fossil fuels we are worrying about blackouts because a madman in Europe invaded another country. I am more than happy to do it to save blackouts and use of coal but sad I have to.

Salome61 · 23/01/2023 18:05

Glad it's over, I found it hard tonight. Think I've got my headtorch elastic too tight :)

There will be no one in at that time tomorrow so we should be good

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 23/01/2023 19:31

Is everyone still waiting for the 19th Jan results?

Pinkflipflop85 · 23/01/2023 19:36

Yes

tribpot · 23/01/2023 19:45

Yep, still waiting here.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 23/01/2023 20:07

Thanks

HandbagsnGladrags · 24/01/2023 08:15

I feel like octopus are deliberating withholding results so that people don't go '50p? Fuck that, I'm not joining the next one'

tribpot · 24/01/2023 08:32

I don't think it's quite that nefarious @HandbagsnGladrags . They have to collect the data in (and in one of the early tests this winter that proved very difficult with one model of meter or something?), crunch it and then I think agree the results with the National Grid, who are the ones actually ponying up the cash.

So looking at the National Grid's page for 19 Jan, the results aren't there, or for 17 Jan for those suppliers who took part in that test, it didn't involve Octopus.

However, it's something else for National Grid to look at, if this scheme becomes a more permanent part of our lives. I do think the lag in getting feedback will discourage people from taking part.

HandbagsnGladrags · 24/01/2023 09:07

@tribpot maybe I'm too cynical!

tribpot · 24/01/2023 09:09

I think I see the National Grid as the bad guys rather than Octopus @HandbagsnGladrags 😂

Gufo · 24/01/2023 10:47

I'm in - we did it last night too. Not sure how well we'll do today as no kids clubs on after school unlike yesterday, but every little helps - even if we just don't stick the dishwasher on like usual.

NewBootsAndRanty · 24/01/2023 15:08

My results are in on the website for the 19th. I won't spend my 144 points all at once..

I earned…. 5p!

tribpot · 24/01/2023 15:24

Mine are still calculating for the 19th, which must mean I'm in for big bucks.
