Anyone signed up for this? Payments for shifting your energy use away from peak times/within a given timeslot each day.

Ignore my maths 😅 they doubled it to £9.16, so £4.58 I saved.

Have signed up. I’m going in big guns ! I will literally turn everything off. We have 3 adults and 2 children household.

Chest freezer and fridge will be fine if unopened.
large flask filled with boiling water for coffee etc
All standby devices inc oven, hob, dishwasher, microwave, alexas,tv’s etc - you’ll be amazed how much you have on standby !
Have bought more games second hand off ebay to play and cards , dobble, kerplunk, jenga, cluedo kids will love this
Pre cooked casseroles for easy reheating ( for us on the wood stove but otherwise use microwave)
Working out other pre cook meals for simple reheating (make pancakes for savoury and sweet etc)
Candles (safe in a jar) - we will minimise any lights.
all battery packs charged up to keep things like iPads and radio going if need be.

We’re going to try like it’s a full power cut. Octopus trials suggested families really enjoyed ‘connecting’. Make it an ‘adventure’ with the kids.
Wish me luck !!

I've signed up. The one I've signed for is only an hour. Surely I just make myself a coffee beforehand and that's it ??

NewBootsAndRanty · 18/01/2023 17:56

Most of the previous ones have been after dark @FallonofDynasty

Ok

WhatCanWeDoNext · 18/01/2023 19:34

Thanks, I’ve just opted in too. Probably won’t save anything as we’re on battery/solar at that time of day usually. Just want to show willing! 😄

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 18/01/2023 20:04

Ive just opted in. Not usually a high user at that time as the kids are at school and DP at work so just me home. I think ill flip the power off and take the dog for a walk but doubt we will save much

tribpot · 18/01/2023 20:23

Just realised the cleaners will be here then, I can't very well ask them not to turn the hoover on 😂

Gufo · 18/01/2023 20:44

I'm signed up! WFH but usually stick washing machine and dishwasher on then - must remember not to!

HundredMilesAnHour · 18/01/2023 21:23

I just signed up too. I'm actually at the gym when it happens so will just turn off everything while I'm out. Don't think it'll be much of a saving as even though I usually work from home at that time, I tend to sit in semi-darkness clutching a hot water bottle while using my laptop. So I reckon I'll save about 2p!

Reluctantadult · 18/01/2023 22:31

Similar to others, opted in, think our use would usually be low anyway. Just be me working from home.

Rainbow1901 · 18/01/2023 22:42

We have opted in but I'm sure I read somewhere that if you increase the use of electric before the savings session kicks in - the payback is bigger.
So had the dishwasher on tonight - not sure what happens if you have solar panels as we have free electric when the sun is shining during the day !! But as it on what you're not using - it probably won't make any difference.
But the central heating needs to go off too as that uses power too. So will sit wrapped in a blanket with a hot brew at 9a.m lol!

MissAmyPond · 18/01/2023 23:06

Also signed up for tomorrow - I've done the last three sessions, but must remember not to use the tumble drier in the morning! I can cut down on electricity in other ways but that's the thing using most for us at the moment...

BarbaraofSeville · 19/01/2023 04:27

We're both out this morning which is unusual as I WFH normally and DP seasonal work is quiet ATM, so I'm hoping for a good saving compared with our recent norm of lights, laptops and possibly breakfast being cooked and washing machine, vacuuming dishwasher or dryer running.

froginawell · 19/01/2023 09:17

I've opted in, am normally wfh with complete and electric heater on, I'd booked the day off already so am in bed with all power off!

Salome61 · 19/01/2023 12:38

Thanks for starting this thread. I'd joined in on the evening slots last year, but this one threw me and I nearly didn't sign up as I didn't want to get up early. Solved it by switching everything off last night and stayed in bed until 10. I'm retired and know I'm lucky to be able to do this.

snowsilver · 19/01/2023 13:18

Cashed in £20 today and just turned the power off at 9. Washer and dishwasher usually busy at that time but not much else.

NewBootsAndRanty · 22/01/2023 18:20

Another one tomorrow between 5 and 6pm!

froginawell · 22/01/2023 18:22

If I wasn't on this thread I'd miss all of them!

Thank you, opted in

NewBootsAndRanty · 22/01/2023 18:24

I only noticed it because I was checking to see if they'd got the numbers in yet from the last one - they'll probably send out notifications later.

WinterMermaid234 · 22/01/2023 18:32

Ooh thanks I’ve opted in we are usually out kid’s activities 5-6pm then

Flapjackquack · 22/01/2023 18:36

Thank you, I didn’t get any alert at all

Salome61 · 22/01/2023 19:54

I've not had an email either. I wonder if it's area specific this time?

NewBootsAndRanty · 22/01/2023 20:00

@Flapjackquack and @Salome61 as I said, notifications normally go out a bit later - I've not had one yet either, mine normally come through about 9pm..

OP posts:
Flapjackquack · 22/01/2023 20:02

Mine came through about 20 mins ago

Salome61 · 22/01/2023 22:00

Thank you, just got mine at 8 pm.
