If this goes horribly wrong it is not my fault.....

Sorry Amber my week has been a cross between the Twilight Zone and soap opera with falling ratings at Christmas.

Today's joy looking after dDad while working. It feels like the toddler years are back (minus trying to fish fuzzy felt out of bottoms and sultanas out of noses hopefully). Thankfully they have superfast internet so I can "work".

SingToTheSky · 23/06/2021 10:31

Yay happier congratulations 😍

Spendy day or it will be when I transfer my friend the money. She managed to get tickets for twenty one pilots next year so I’m going with my eldest, my friend and two of her boys. Not been to a proper gig since before DD1 arrived and she will be 15 then! £174ish 😬

Random question for June but where does one buy a decent artificial Christmas tree? I’ve been on a major decluttering kick lately, and finally decided that my old tree is just too far gone now. It’s had a good run - my parents bought it for £25 in 1987, my second Christmas :o

I’m not buying now but it would be good to have ideas of where to look nearer the time so I don’t end up buying a crap one last minute!

I got mine from a local garden centre. The purple one hang on let me google

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/06/2021 12:50

Dobbies garden centre. Not cheap but they had 25% off and it's well worth the £££

ememem84 · 23/06/2021 12:53

@Happierwithouthim

em that's unusual is due to court or something? Delighted with my little house Smile
Yep. We have to go to court (or send our lawyer) stand up raise right hand and swear an oath in jersey French. It’s a bit of a pomp and ceremony.

All housing transactions are registered in the royal court here

Depends on storage. Dsis got hers from b&q I think. And also got a Christmas tree “coffin” for it from there to store it in.

We get a real one which takes away the storage element.

Spends

£25 cupcakes for dms birthday dinner. Also mini Colin caterpillars. Because it’s not a birthday without Colin.

£5.50 salad box and fanta. I love fanta!!

And £25 in paperchase birthday cards for Dm which I thought I’d already bought but couldn’t find and some decluttering calenders for me and dsis.

Congratulations Happier. You've waited a very long time for this moment so enjoy your lovely new house.

Payday tomorrow thankfully. Lots of birthdays coming up soon so no money going into savings this month.

Hmmmmm photo posting killed my long and thoughtful post.

In summary

Happier Yay
Em how the fuck do you function if you can only complete on a Friday
Sing first day the shops are open after Christmas. Ours were £5 on a yellow sticker.

Is it bad to contemplate changing the locks to enjoy the peace for longer?

unescorted it’s been that way for years and years.

You go to court for 230 on a Friday. Men must wear ties. And you book your removals for the Saturday morning. It just happens.

marthasmum · 23/06/2021 17:43

happier congratulations! Sounds great
em I’m intrigued by the thought of you all in ties, on a Friday Smile
DD (17) had a hospital check up today and she took herself! So strange. I mean it’s great that she is independent enough to do that but really feels odd not to be needed. DP of course has no sentimentality about it...
I also googled em’s blanket but I resisted

Martha I hate the feeling of redundancy too. Weirdly bit us worse with DS. I guess because he is the youngest. Next May he is setting off by himself for an unsupported bike race. 550 miles and mostly off road. It is taking all my willpower to not veto it even though I know he is more than capable.

Em weird. It is hard enough to get a completion through ATM. If people had to wear ties it would scupper the deals. We are so lax this side of the water. Although technically land reg is registering with the crown.... Just biros not quills.

unescorted oh yes when it comes to DS2 I will be clinging on to his ankles when he tries to leave home (he’s 13 now) Smile

marthasmum · 23/06/2021 20:31

Posted too soon...though he is also the most independent.
Your DS’s race sounds great (though I get the need to veto)

Lovemaltesers · 23/06/2021 21:02

Amazing news happier, finally your happy home!

HumbugWhale · 23/06/2021 22:21

Congratulations Happier!

Happierwithouthim · 23/06/2021 23:53

Thanks to everyone

Spends today €6.80 lunch from deli as I hadn't moved my fridge in so food was still at rental.
€80 stepladder
€35.10 on takeaway for dm, myself & dc. That's it back to cooking tomo even if it's just traybake!

Got letter from mortgage company & first payment not going out until July 31st, and as it basically half my rent & I've been putting the rent amount for a while I'll have another €1000 in that category in YNAB by then.

€66 on diesel & milk

Going to sleep, I'm so tired 😴

It’s a nice tradition I think.

Women have to wear jackets. Men ties. When we bought our place our lawyer turned up in his court gowns and had a bag of spare ties just in case!

Unofficial Tradition also states that once you come out of court you take a picture on the steps with your new keys and then go to the pub opposite for a drink.

unescorted it does sound wierd I know. We don’t have to attend court you can pay your lawyer to go for you (an extra £200). But it just works. Completion 230pm on a Friday. And everyone works towards it. So it usually takes 6-8 weeks from acceptance of offer and instruction of lawyer to the completion.

I’ve just dealt with a completion of a property in Christchurch which exchanged 6m ago.

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/06/2021 07:16

Going to meet my best friends for lunch and shopping today.

Happierwithouthim · 24/06/2021 07:27

€25.10 on takeaway just checked my online banking thought €35.10 was rather expensive Hmm

Mine took 16 months and two weeks from sale agreed to completion ShockShockShock

Em lovely tradition

Life enjoy

ememem84 · 24/06/2021 13:05

i have just done the unthinkable (for me) and have managed a food shop for under £60. without a list.

i bought loads of reducee items too - mostly bread, bagels, wraps etc which were all dated today and will shove them in the freezer in the "bread drawer"

tip: if you buy wraps for freezing, roll them individually like cigars and pop them in a freezer bag to freeze. this means you can take one out at a time and less waste.

Mrsmadevans · 24/06/2021 15:42
