If this goes horribly wrong it is not my fault.....

Sorry Amber my week has been a cross between the Twilight Zone and soap opera with falling ratings at Christmas.

Today's joy looking after dDad while working. It feels like the toddler years are back (minus trying to fish fuzzy felt out of bottoms and sultanas out of noses hopefully). Thankfully they have superfast internet so I can "work".

£19 top up shop plus ice creams for the freezer.

marthasmum · 19/06/2021 20:01

£83 company shop (including loads of cheap posh fruit eg raspberries 20p!)
£56 Costco for loo rolls, washing powder and other bit
£53 Lidl for rest of food shop
£25 butchers
So spendy but includes lots of stuff that will last through the rest of the month
Is anyone else fed up of the euros already?? DD and I are wanting the tv back Hmm

SnugglySnerd · 19/06/2021 20:07

So was the company shop good then Martha? I had never heard of it before.

marthasmum · 19/06/2021 21:06

They have just opened up to teachers snuggly but you’d have to join before 28th June (and check there is one near you). It was good - you probably couldn’t reliably do a full shop though I got quite a lot of my usual stuff as they had fridges and freezer stuff too. The principle is they sell stuff that would otherwise be thrown from the major supermarkets. So when I got there they were discounting all fruit to 50p and all veg to 25p. So I got cheap raspberries and M&S organic carrots! I did have a bit of an ethical concern that it’s obviously a lifeline for people on low incomes and maybe i shouldn’t be jumping on the bandwagon iyswim. But actually the stuff would just get thrown and they are obviously marking it down to get it sold. So I felt better about that once I’d seen their set up.

Martha so sick of it.... I am watching Cardiff Singer if the Year instead. I love opera....

Wolf give the pup a cuddle from me. Xxxx

Tv here doesn’t work for anyone other than ddad. So it’s football. Or old episodes of things. Or old movies.

Or CBeebies.

Lovemaltesers · 20/06/2021 07:10

I’d choose CBeebies over football any day 🤣 even one of those really annoying programmes!

Lovemaltesers · 20/06/2021 07:11

When do you get to go home em?

ememem84 · 20/06/2021 07:24

Hopefully today. Dh has his final test at 920. And it takes 8-12 hours to get results.

Dh is adamant we’re going home today. I’m not sure that it will be.

Horrendous night here. Ddad has a cough. Which is obviously covid Hmm he was up coughing most of the night and pacing around uostairs. Ds came into bed with me at 2 because it was dark in his room. Then kicked me and snored. Dd woke up at 430. Got her back to sleep then ds fell out of my bed. Dd up again at 530.

Ddad up at 539 abs out for a walk. Then back at 6. Then back out again at 630 because no one was giving him any attention

Have already said to Dh I’m booking myself into a hotel next weekend. Only joking a smidge.

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/06/2021 08:20

Oof that sounds hideous em.
I think I can rationalise it as you are stopping the landfill Martha. I would still go and stock up. Might go and collect my card today.

Unescorted · 20/06/2021 09:33

em that sounds grim. If your Ddad does have C19 does that mean you are going to have to isolate away from DH?

We have some twite fledging atm.... so cute and fluffy. The parents are very attentive. I feel a bit bad because I was weeding under their honey suckle.

So, I've caught up on your news over the past week or so.

I loved all the pet adoption chat. Our two cats are total opposites. DCat1 is a very friendly, cuddly cat. DD adores him and he sleeps in her bed every night. He's not 100% reliable when it comes to litter trays though. I had to banish him from my bedroom when I discovered him weeing on my bedroom floor one morning Shock. I think he'd just woken up and was a bit sleepy and was too lazy to make his way downstairs to use the litter tray there. I keep my bedroom door closed now and I also put a litter tray in the upstairs bathroom. DCat2 was a very shy, anxious cat. The first few days we had her, she hid away in a little cat house. If you so much as took a step towards her, she'd run in the opposite direction. She still doesn't like being handled but she's a lot calmer now and occasionally she'll do something that shows she trusts us e.g. when I'm sitting on the sofa with the laptop on my lap, she'll hop up on the other end of the sofa. Or she'll roll over on the floor in front of us (exposing her belly to us). She's a really beautiful tabby cat with the most incredible green eyes. I don't know much about their history except they were rescued from an old lady who had too many cats and wasn't able to care for them properly. DCat2 had an infection and was underweight -she gained a third of her body weight while she was in the shelter Sad. Apart from having to change their litter trays and take them to the vet for their annual jabs, they're no trouble really. It just takes a bit of organization if I go away - either I've to ask a family member to feed them, or pay to put them in a cattery. I've booked them into a cattery for 9 nights at the end of August (we'll be away for a week) and it will cost something like €16 per night per cat. I'll also have to pay for a new floor for the hall at some stage - they love digging their claws into the hall carpet. Next time I'll get a wood or laminate floor.

Being separated, I have sole control of our finances now and I'm doing a pretty good job of it, if I do say so myself. I'm lucky in that Ex pays a generous amount of child maintenance and he pays up promptly. I'm frequently shocked at the stories I read on MN about deadbeat Dads who don't pay anything towards their children or just pay a tiny amount. But I'd still manage even if he didn't pay anything. I just have one child and she's 16 so I don't have to pay for childcare now while I work. It would be a very different story if I had three or four small children.

Mrs sorry to hear your DH was so ill. You got very emotional when you were talking about the support em received from her parents. Am I right in thinking that your own Mum wasn't very supportive? In which case, you've broken the cycle and been an incredible Mum to your two daughters. And also a very kind and caring daughter to your Mum. Sending you big, squeezy hugs.

em glad you were able to move in with your parents temporarily. It made more sense than having your DH confined to his bedroom and you sleeping on the floor. And the DC would have been confused and wouldn't have understood why their Dad wouldn't come out and talk/play with them.

north hope your DH is on the mend now. You must be really excited about your impending holiday - it will be lovely to catch up with family. Congrats. to your DS for saving the cricket match. He won't know himself, having his own car.

Love Wimbledown will be a real treat. I'm not a big tennis fan but I'd love to go, just for the experience.

Unescorted well done to your DD on her first year results. Not long now until you'll have her home again. It's hard to see our little chicks fly the nests but you should be proud that you've given her the secure foundation that enabled her to leave home and stand on her own two feet, albeit in a student setting.

Wolf lovely news about the puppy. When do you get to collect him (or is it her?).

Hi to anyone else I've missed.

I'm back to work tomorrow. Need to pay my waste charges bill. Also need to chase up my solicitor. And look into getting a new shower for my en suite and getting a plumber to install it. Lots of €€€

Interesting, thank you.

As you can see I have name changed. Thought it was about time! It will take some getting used to.

Hmmm neither is ideal is it?! I just realised it's a bit Scrooge-y. It is one of the dcs' cute mixed up words Grin I have cleared out 4 cupboards today, feeling quite pleased with myself, good use of a wet Sunday I think!
lifelongfrugaleer · 20/06/2021 16:26

Humbug is fine

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/06/2021 16:26

I agree your break sounds great tayto

ememem84 · 20/06/2021 17:59

We’re home!!!!!! Third test negative so Dh is free!!!!! Phew.

HumbugWhale · 20/06/2021 18:18

Hooray Em!

Bornlazy · 20/06/2021 18:18

Wolf how exciting a lovely wee puppy. Can't believe we have 2 thread puppies at the same time.

Nice new name Humbug We still refer to some things by the mixed up names my ds gave them and my youngest is almost 16.

Oh no em that's the last thing you need. Will your df need to get a covid test?

Glad you had a nice holiday Tayto. Do your cats get on with each other? I have 1 male cat and 2 female and the female cats have taken a dislike for each other. No idea why, they used to get on well, but now one of my cats refuses to use the litter tray if the other one has been near it. She has peed under my table before.

I'm totally shattered after making sure dh had a nice restful fathers day. I've obviously got used to him being partially furloughed and doing more in the house so the shock of doing it all has nearly killed me 😂

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/06/2021 19:35

Hurrah for being home

ememem84 · 20/06/2021 19:47

born at 430 this morning when ddad was fussing with me and Dd and asked me if I wanted a coffee (?!?! No!!! The thought was there though I do appreciate that!) I snapped at him if he wasn’t feeling well to get a covid test.

Although to be fair. Dd was ill the week before last and him and Dm looked after her when she couldn’t go to nursery. So I suspect it’s just that.

Home has never felt so good. I’ve unpacked. And Dh is dealing with the dc. He’s doing milk and bed with dd now while I’m sort of supervising ds in the bath. Then I’m hopping in the bath. Then bed. Phew. Self care.

Back to dparents tomorrow but to work. Dm wanted me there in case ddad isnt feeling great.

Taytocrisps · 20/06/2021 20:13

DCats came from the same house but I'm not sure if they're related in any way - they're both tabbies but their appearance is quite different. Also, we had DCat1 for a couple of weeks before DCat2 was well enough to come home from the shelter, so I'm not sure if they remembered each other from their last home. They've a bit of a love hate relationship. When it gets near to feeding time, they get quite aggressive with each other - I guess it's like they're competing for food. But once they've been fed, they calm down and sometimes they snuggle up together and groom each other and/or have a nap. You wouldn't believe it was the same pair of cats that were snarling at each other and lashing out with their paws at feeding time!

ememem84 · 20/06/2021 20:22

I’m now in the bath. Both dc in bed. And Dh is watching football.

Catface is in here with me (bathroom not bath. She doesn’t like bath).

It is so nice to be home.

I’m eternally grateful to dparents for helping me out this week. Staying home would have been hellish so being able to have this option was amazing. We are very fortunate.
