SCHOOL UNIFORM BANK thread

Hi, I wanted to be clear about the thread I started before - it's not a swap, so nothing is required in return! It's for the perfectly good uniform items that you might otherwise give to charity. This way we can support each other in our mumsnet community.

I've got several pairs of boys black school trousers aged 8-9 with adjustable waists. Free to good home and I'm happy to post just PM me Smile

I've spent all morning reading the poverty thread in chat (which is how I found this one) but it means I've run out of time and can't read previous posts for now, but I have a black school pinafore age 6-7 if anyone would like it, just pm and I'll happily post.

I'll sure I'll have more, we're in NI so our schools have finished. I only wish I had come across this before I put bags of clothes into the clothes bin at the supermarket, I could have had so much more.

Grumpyoldblonde · 28/06/2015 12:13

I will have 2 grey M & S Skirts available when term ends maccie will you remind me nearer the time by PM?

Grumpyoldblonde · 28/06/2015 12:34

Just a quick thought, my local Wilkinson has a reduced area at the back of the store and currently they have kids stationary heavily marked down (think 25p for an A4 notebook) including pencil cases, packs of pens, binders and folders so if you have to provide these at school it may be worth a look, or even to have as gifts for kids parties. The ones in my store are themed (I saw computer character ones, aliens or similar) and they had girls bits too. They also had drawstring swimming bags.

Onedayinthesun · 28/06/2015 13:42

Mamabird3 · 28/06/2015 13:53

I love the idea of this thread! I don't have any school uniform to offer bar a couple of girls grey skirts in size 4-5 but in a week or so when I've sorted through my youngests clothes if I ever get round to it I will have a bundle of boys clothes in ages 2-3 and maybe a few bits of slightly smaller. It's just regular boys clothes, nothing special but clean tidy and free if anyone could make use of it. Smile

anotherbloodycyclist · 28/06/2015 14:30

Great thread.
Not uniform, but I have a lovely pair of size 3 DM girls boots in a shiny purple, hardly worn. I would love to hand them on.

HemanOrSheRa · 28/06/2015 16:43

I'm posting a pic of these football boots/trainers. Because I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to this sort of thing. They are Junior Nike Magista size 3. They have a tread suitable for astroturf.

They are in ok condition, there is a small surface tear on the side of the right boot. But it's on the inside so you can't see it. Would be ok for knocking around in over the summer holidays, maybe? DS has only stopped wearing them because his feet are growing at an alarming rate. If they still fit him he would most definitely still be wearing them Smile.

Eva

Are the boys' 6-7 black trousers still available? I work with vulnerable families in my school and have an urgent need for school trousers for one of the children. I'll pm you my address and send you the postage by PayPal if that would help Smile

Eva50 · 28/06/2015 17:04

SuburbanRhonda pm me your address and I will post them to you. I am glad to be able to help. Do you want the shorts too?

lagirafe · 28/06/2015 17:04

SuburbanRhonda just wanted to say that's really nice of you to help that family out. I'm sure they will really appreciate it Flowers

SuburbanRhonda · 28/06/2015 17:07

Thank you, lagirafe

It's actually my job, Blush but I love it, especially when we can help with practical things that can be overwhelming when money is tight.

FloraFox · 28/06/2015 17:08

Not uniform but I know it can be hard to clothe kids in the summer when they are not wearing uniform. I have t-shirts bought for a 12 year old boy and various bits for a 10 year old girl. I'll pay postage

TalkinPeace · 28/06/2015 17:09

DS has just handed me a bundle of white school shirts : M&S Easy Iron, age 12 and 13
first PM with postcode and house number gets them

if you are not allergic to outgrown trainers I have size 9, size and size 7
as well

SuburbanRhonda · 28/06/2015 17:10

Eva

Have pm'd you - thank you!

lagirafe · 28/06/2015 17:12

SuburbanRhonda do you mind me asking what your job title is? I found the school to be no help at all with uniform even though they knew our situation and I asked in the office and the class teacher.
I guess it's something which varies by area though...

elephantoverthehill · 28/06/2015 17:15

I've got boy's black school trousers waist 30'' standard leg, never worn.
Boy's white shirt 14'' neck M&S never worn as it was not slim fit.
Girls blue and white checked summer uniform age 6/7 BHS
Two light blue girls' revere collared shirts aged 6/7 and another two aged 8/9

SuburbanRhonda · 28/06/2015 17:19

It does vary by area. I'm a home school link worker, but some schools have different names for the role.

There are lots of us in my LA and we all do things a bit differently, but I have a bit of a thing about children having the right to look the part in school, even when money is really tight at home.

KeepOnTryingTilYouRunOutOfCake · 28/06/2015 17:22

Would be so grateful if anyone has any skirts/trousers (grey) in size 5-6. If they are any good after dd has outgrown them I will gladly pass them on to another needy person.

elephantoverthehill · 28/06/2015 17:31

And a grey pinafore age 8

Pat1ence · 28/06/2015 17:44

Just seen this thread. So glad some good has come out of the poverty thread! Maybe we could have a casual clothes bank thread too? It's coming up to the school holidays and I used to hate knowing I'd have about 4 things to wear for 6 weeks.

What do you think Queen?

juneau · 28/06/2015 17:46

What a lovely thread. Sometimes MN is a truly wonderful thing.

maccie · 28/06/2015 17:47

This thread is full of some wonderfully kind people. I know I for one am truly grateful for this help and it has really helped to ease the uniform worries that September brings around.
