Covid vaccine, to ask if this makes you worried?

www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-02-19/largest-covid-vaccine-study-yet-finds-links-to-health-conditions?leadSource=uverify%20wall

I'm double vaccinated, had 2 Pfizer but reading articles such as the above and seeing people in the news dying of sudden heart attacks and blood clots makes me really worried.

If I could go back in time, I'm not sure I would get vaxed without waiting for further research.

Anybody else?

Not really. The article says “small increase” and “rare”. Most of us have a small chance of a rare medical event anyway. People died from covid, and many more could have without a vaccine.

sashh · 22/02/2024 02:36

I can't read the article.

But often reporters don't really know what they are talking about. And they also go for clickbait headlines.

Meadowfinch · 22/02/2024 02:44

No, it doesn't worry me.

I haven't caught Covid yet, for which I am grateful. I assume I have some natural immunity or the vaccines did their job very effectively.
I'd rather focus on keeping myself fit & eating healthily than spend time worrying about unproven maybes.

KnowledgeableMomma · 22/02/2024 02:52

Last I read (sometime in 2023), well over 6 million people have died from Covid. Unless 6 million people have died from heart attacks /clots due to the vaccine (newsflash.....they haven't), then no, I do not regret getting the vaccine and boosters.

YoureALizardHarry11 · 22/02/2024 02:56

I can’t read it it’s behind a paywall, but no. Every single pharmaceutical known to man has potential for harmful side effects and they tested 99 MILLION people and found a small number of illnesses after the vaccine. It depends what they class as small I know, but also how have they deduced that it was a direct effect of the vaccine and not an effect of previous covid infection?

If the effects were small it could well have been caused by something else. Was it a correlational study? And how long since the jab did these effects present? It all matters.

PaminaMozart · 22/02/2024 02:56

Exactly, @KnowledgeableMomma .

Sadly, most people have unrealistic notions about medical risk. No medication, vaccine or procedure is 100% safe, but unless benefits outweigh risks they would not get licensed.

Greenfinch7 · 22/02/2024 03:03

One of the conditions they listed as increased risk because of vaccine went from 2 expected cases to 7 expected cases... out of 99 million doses given? Not something I am going to worry about. Other conditions affected more people, but not enough to seem at all worrisome.

homezookeeper · 22/02/2024 03:09

If they'd do a mass study on everyone who'd received it, both doses and boosters, that might disprove a few doubts on paper. But they don’t need to bother because it's done exactly what was intended for how many people? It worked. If it didn’t I’m sure we'd all be aware of huge life threatening ongoing issues with vaccinated people by now. Look at previous vaccines, was there a huge degree of fall out? Or did the science play out overall pretty damn well? Of course there are anomalies. But certainly not to scale in comparison.

montelbano · 22/02/2024 04:03

There is a very tiny risk with all medication.
I had a deep vein thrombosis due to the contraceptive pill. How many women today take the Pill without giving a single thought to the possible side effects?
The Covid vaccine has saved millions of lives; the loss of life due to the Covid vaccine is miniscule.

IloveAslan · 22/02/2024 04:21

No, I'm not worried at all.

sykadelic · 22/02/2024 04:36

Honestly, not really worried about myself, worried about my son though so he didn't have it. Once I read about the risks in boys under 18 I said no (and so did husband). A colleague of his has an enlarged heart thanks to the vaccine (per the doctors, not conjecture) so in men, yes I'm concerned.

I've had covid twice, only after I got the vaccine. I only realised the first time due to loss of smell/taste but had thought it was allergies. The second time was b/c I tested b/c I had the same symptoms as the first time (allergies) and wanted to be sure before going to work.

MyopicBunny · 22/02/2024 04:38

If you react badly to the vaccine, you’d likely react badly to the actual virus.

I know a 17 year old who was fit, healthy and sporty but is now using a mobility scooter because she has long Covid after having asymptomatic Covid before any of the vaccines came out.

PeopleAreWeird · 22/02/2024 04:58

I had 4 - I wont be having any more

There is a vaccine compensation scheme in place- For me personally, that tells me everything i need to know !

WandaWonder · 22/02/2024 05:03

No because I am sure if I looked hard enough I could find and article that says covid jabs makes our urine glow in the dark does not mean its true

vodkaredbullgirl · 22/02/2024 05:07

Been vaccinated 4 times and had Covid twice. I will continue to have my flu vaccination every year.

There’s vaccine compensation available for every single vaccine we have. Did you think it would be completely risk free? All drugs have risks.

We couldn’t do “more research” at the time because it was a completely new vaccine and the research just didn’t exist. I had an anaphylactic reaction to the AZ vaccine, and went on to have 2 Pfizer with no problems. We all took a risk by having the vaccine, but we didn’t really have much choice if we wanted to fight the virus, protect our families and get out of lockdown. It was a risk worth taking.

WhatTheFuk · 22/02/2024 05:25

You'd be much more worried if you knew the effect covid infection has on the body.

HenndigoOZ · 22/02/2024 05:26

No, not worried. Nothing in life is risk free. There is a greater risk when I jump in the car and travel to work or take paracetamol. You can even get injuries from seat belts and airbags during crashes as well but this is negligible against lives saved. Vaccines should be seen the same way.

BobnLen · 22/02/2024 05:31

I'm not worried about the ones I have had but I haven't had any more, I'm eligible because I'm over 65. I have had Covid a couple of times.

HeyMicky · 22/02/2024 05:37

The risks of developing those conditions is substantially higher after having Covid itself than after having the vaccine. That should be your key takeaway.

They only studied 13 conditions which is a very small number when you think of all the possible ways your health might fail.

Also it's an increase in risk - so probability, not a guarantee.,

lljkk · 22/02/2024 06:07

Google the same headline, it's super easy to find the free story all over.

“The odds of all of these adverse events is still much, much higher when infected with SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), so getting vaccinated is still by far the safer choice,” CEO of biotechnology company Centivax Jacob Glanville, who is not involved in the study, told Forbes.

Covid Vaccines Linked To Small Increase In Heart And Brain Disorders, Study Finds—But Risk From Infection Is Far Higher

Patients who took some coronavirus vaccines faced a slightly higher risk of medical conditions like myocarditis and pericarditis—but people who contract the coronavirus face a greater risk.

No, zero worries, but the press like to targer readers who are unable to fully understand statistics to drum up a bit of drama.

Walkden · 22/02/2024 06:11

People on x etc are always blaming heart attacks " turbo" cancers etc on the vaccine but like a previous poster said COVID vis known to damage your heart, affects many organs and reduce the effectiveness of your immune system for at least 6 months after infection and most people vaxxed or otherwise have been infected by now, and usually more than once.

It must be nearly impossible now to go a study comparing the effects of the vaccine alone with actual infection.

FrederickTrottersville · 22/02/2024 06:12

I blame the gin and banana bread. Much more likely

So I take it that means you will never have any vaccine ever again? Well you might consider smallpox I guess, as thats the only vaccine that isn’t covered by the compensation scheme.
