We had it last month all of four of us. I say last month started with dc1 and ended with H. It's been 6 wks of illness. We all had dodgy tummies with it as well. It's been brutal this time around.

mrsfollowill · 20/09/2023 00:27

Sympathy! No it is not like a mild cold at all- well this current round isn't- DH has been off work for over 2 weeks totally floored. He has an underlying health condition and is hard as nails with feeling crap but has been very ill.
I had it in July so haven't got it right now- neither has adult DS who lives here. TBF DS seems to be immune- travels by bus every day to work but has never had it. We have all had vaccine x 3.
The hungry/sick feeling- classic-and sweats and chills and the overwhelming tiredness is mad. Before I had any symptoms I slept 12 hrs straight on the Friday night, 13 on the Saturday night and then woke up with a throat that felt like it had been sliced open on the Sunday morning. I had a full week off work followed by a week of very short days (flexible WFH) - few weeks of an hour asleep every lunchtime as well. I would have been off work much longer without this- no way could I have done a day in the office. It's brutal - hope you feel better soon. Flowers

mrsfollowill · 20/09/2023 00:29

On the plus side I dropped a dress size and I eat a lot less now as I'm not used it. Lived on tea and toast/biscuits for a couple of weeks.

Currently suffering with the exact symptoms you describe right down to the nightmares. Expect a cough in 2 days!

weirdoboelady · 20/09/2023 00:36

I have it ATM and it is delightfully mild. I had a streaming nose at the beginning (a delightful thing to have while you are wearing a mask, which I have done inside conscientiously since the beginning). Now just sleepy sometimes, mild headache sometimes...generally feeling a bit unwell but not unpleasantly so. (And feeling jolly lucky so far, fingers crossed).

Now DH has it, and he is vulnerable, so please pray for us! Hoping his will be like mine and get gradually better, rather than following the route of his normal flu which means severe hallucinations......

First time for both of us.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/09/2023 00:43

I had full blown flu earlier in the year,it's not as bad as that but this is really unpleasant. I'd love to sleep, I feel I need to but the dreams keep waking me up, so weird, isn't it?

I'm lying here trying to cool down with the fan on me as I'm burning up!

OP posts:
Tarkan · 20/09/2023 00:47

I had it a few weeks ago and I'm still suffering from a runny nose from it. The worst thing at the time was the exhaustion though, my days consisted of getting out of bed then sitting on the sofa all day because lying down for too long affects my mobility and pain levels (I have fibromyalgia) but I had no energy to do anything else.

And I wish I lost weight like others. Covid makes me SO hungry but without eating too much in one go. I actually sent my DD to the shop to buy over £50 of snacks and easy things to eat as I was too tired to cook but I was ridiculously hungry. I gained quite a chunk of weight, although thankfully I've lost most of it again now.

I've had it 3 times now (April last year, March and August this year) and never had a cough, I've never lost my sense of taste but these last two times I had around 24-48 hours where Vaporub smelled like water. It was the only thing I lost my sense of smell with as well. Being able to deeply inhale a tub of Vicks without noticing a thing is a very weird sensation.

Tarkan · 20/09/2023 00:48

Oh and yes the crazy dreams! I didn't have chills or fever but I had the weirdest and most vivid dreams. Multiple of them every night.

Mine are in Technicolor, they're exhausting. I had them 4 days before testing positive, so strange.

Yes me! Crazy dreams, sweats/chills, nausea/hunger and terrible aches all there! Plus cough, sneezing, awful headache and just woke up with the most terrible sore throat 😞 feels like tonsillitis! I was expecting milder symptoms this time around but this is pretty bad…

exLtEveDallas · 20/09/2023 06:57

I have: sweats/chills, sore throat, cough, sneezing, bad stomach, headache and queasiness... and 2 negative tests.

I wonder if there is 'just' a terrible cold going round at the moment as well.

allthehops · 20/09/2023 07:28

I can sympathise, I've been up by 4am the last couple of days because of the sweating and leg cramps. It's weird as I don't feel like I have a temperature, I'm just cold and sweaty 🤢

Chiaseedling · 20/09/2023 07:29

It’s my 3rd time (assuming what I had in March 2020 was covid) and probably felt the least ill! Started w v high temp, went from normally working from
home in the morning, by 3pm was burning up in bed / I got a faint line on test when I did a throat swab. V sudden onset although I’d been a bit sniffy for a couple of days prior.
Turned into Heavy cold, and a bit tired/lethargic- day 5 for me now and I feel
like it’s the end of a cold but I still tested strong positive yesterday and work don’t want me in this week at all!
I got it off DD but took best part of a week to start w symptoms in terms of our last close contact (although I wasn’t v strict on maintaining total distance).

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/09/2023 07:56

I managed a couple of hours sleep from 4-6am but the aches are still very much there. Not quite so hot this morning as yesterday. Just started sneezing 🤧

OP posts:
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/09/2023 09:36

I'm hot again although I've been pottering around downstairs and put a wash on etc. Dh looks loads better,he's 5 days in.

OP posts:
Superduper02 · 20/09/2023 09:48

Yes DH and DD suffered but are both fine now. DH had fevers and dizziness for 2 days then was marching towards a full recovery. My symptoms are like the world's longest opera, each requiring their own act.

I'm heavily pregnant though so that could be slowing things down. Last night had the first good night's sleep for 6 nights. Praise the Lord!

Wish you all well!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/09/2023 09:51

Ahhh sleep,I remember it so fondly...

How's everyone?

I had a slightly better day but am burning up again now.

OP posts:
Poormepoorme · 20/09/2023 20:13

Not great! Started to feel better this morning and did some work which was foolish! Just on a computer mostly but had to talk a bit and burned up and then felt awful. Pretty stupid as only day 3 and feel I’ve set myself back. I’m going to have to take the rest of the week off I think and just completely rest. Most symptoms have died down now but I am completely exhausted, foggy headed and dizzy when I get up. And still feeling hot/cold 😞

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/09/2023 21:45

I think I did the same, only pottered around a bit but paying for it now. I'm so tired but still can't sleep. Cooling down a bit now thank goodness. The nights are interminable 😢

mydogisthebest · 20/09/2023 22:10

Me and DH had it at the beginning of August. DH said it just felt like a cold and not a particularly bad one.

I had a terrible headache, shivery, sore throat and could not stop being sick. I could not keep even a sip of water down so for 3 days I couldn't eat or drink anything.

I was in bed for 3 days. The 4th day I managed to get up for a couple of hours but just laid on the settee. 5th day I had a shower but DH had to help me as I was so weak and shaky.

It took me about a month to get over it. I was so tired all the time and just doing something like a bit of dusting would wear me out and I would have to rest for quite a while

Ithh · 20/09/2023 22:29

I feel really rough with this one. Certainly not a cold. It’s as bad as the first time I had it in 2021.

Tryingandfailingagain · 20/09/2023 22:33

No it’s not. Was at my GP today for an ear infection- she knew I had Covid 2 weeks ago. She stressed that it can wipe out your immune system and leave you susceptible to other infections, and to expect that for about 6 months.

What cold does that?
