K73c · 19/08/2023 13:52

It's been a while since I posted . Developed sudden flu symptoms in the night & tested positive to covid this morning. Seeing more twitter - X re new wave, new variant. I know cases were still happening but wondered how many are getting it now - and how last

seratoninmoonbeams · 19/08/2023 14:00

🥱

Berlinlover · 19/08/2023 14:05

It never went away, learn to live with it, it’s not Ebola.

Floofydawg · 19/08/2023 14:05

Quick, lock everyone down! 🙄

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 19/08/2023 14:07

By the right.....masks ON!

K73c · 19/08/2023 14:07

sorry - I am not sure where I wrote it was Ebola or anthing like it

And if a yawn all you have to offer, why even come to the covid page?

I am in the middle of medical treatment, and also on waiting list for surgery in few months - I'm just genuinely interested. No need to be sicastic

There really are some twats on this site 🙄

OP, this strain seems to be more like normal flu rather than cold like symptoms. Sore throat, aching body, horrendous sweats, loss of appetite. This goes on for 1-2 weeks before you start feeling human again. Is that what you meant?

I'm sorry that idiots have replied OP.

If you are vulnerable, the news of another strain is concerning. I now several people who have had Covid in the past couple of weeks. Two have been quite unwell despite being relatively young and without underlying health issues.

Nobody wants to go back to restrictions, masks or lockdown but to suggest it is boring is unkind and facile.

I am very pleased to be having another Covid jab next week.

VouisLuitton · 19/08/2023 14:20

A family member of mine was hospitalised with covid last week. I wasn’t too bad symptom wise but it has left me absolutely exhausted a month later.
Hope you feel better soon OP.

GrammarTeacher · 19/08/2023 14:21

Currently have it. Utterly exhausted. But other symptoms seem to be easing.

beeonmybonnett · 19/08/2023 14:25

Let’s not treat covid any differently to how we treat the likes of flu.

Yes, unfortunately, some people may get seriously ill and/or die if they catch covid, just like some people with the flu may do, but the best thing you can do is just stay at home when you’re sick, avoid unnecessary in-person contact with people, wash your hands and make sure you’re vaccinated.

Honestly it’s boring hearing about this new wave. It’s been 3 years.

PupInAPram · 19/08/2023 14:33

@seratoninmoonbeams @Berlinlover @Floofydawg do you actively seek out threads that allow you to be snide, or is it your default setting for everything?

anotheranotheranotheranother · 19/08/2023 14:36

Who left the gate open at the Cunt Farm?

This made me laugh way more then it should have - thank you Star

OP i am slightly concerned atm, hopefully it won't come to much but I am also vulnerable so any news like this definitely matters.

Flossflower · 19/08/2023 14:38

I understand there will be a new vaccination program in the autumn for people with certain health conditions and everyone over 65. I also understand from the times that is might be possible for anyone else to buy a vaccine.
This seems very unfair to me. If you are poor you can be ill!

seratoninmoonbeams · 19/08/2023 14:39

😆 how is a yawn 🥱 emoji snide?! I rarely comment so don't know how you've singled me out with regards to that.

What did you mean by the yawn, if not snidey?

Dyathinkysaurus · 19/08/2023 14:42

Stunned by the people coming in here to be rude. Just why?

I’m on the Continent and the increase was mentioned on our Newsround-type show last night, saying that sewer tests showed an increase in virus levels. They said that anecdotally there are lots of people with coughs and colds around, but we don’t really know what they are, partly because most people’s lateral flow tests have expired by now and give unreliable results.

Not a very interesting answer but I thought I’d give a serious reply to a perfectly reasonable question.

I hope you’re feeling better soon 💐 I was seriously ill during the lockdowns and my treatment was compromised due to the pandemic. I do get tired of people being so dismissive of the virus. It caused untold mental and physical health problems for so many, whether the suffering was due to lockdowns or to catching the virus itself.

Ettings · 19/08/2023 14:43

I have a few family members with it right now and although I know it's much milder now I really don't want to catch it so staying well away from them this week. I had long covid last time and shed half my hair -took 2 years for it to grow back 🙈.

Houseplantmad · 19/08/2023 14:43

I’ve had it recently. Felt dreadful for 3-4 days and since then exhausted. It’s also affected my breathing, which is annoying.

You can hide topics on this site. If you are bored of hearing about it then I strongly suggest you hide the COVID section which is where the OP posted this.

Same for the others.

Fizzadora · 19/08/2023 14:47

I must admit I was rather surprised to see a staff member on the till at a garden centre with a mask on yesterday, but was absolutely stunned to see a chap come off the school field opposite this morning with one on.
Had they got it, I wonder.

Even then we have never locked down. I'm surprised these threads are allowed

You are a fan of people being controlled to the point they can't freely discuss what is currently in the news?

Have a think about what that would actually mean for us all, then perhaps conclude the easier solution is to scroll past any subjects you don't like to see being discussed.

But we can't afford to keep vaccinating everyone every year.

Surely it is better that as many people as possible are vaccinated as it will be less likely for everyone (including poor people)

Go and live somewhere like North Korea then. You'll absolutely love the way nobody's allowed free speech Hmm
