DS tested positive - can we travel to Majorca?

229 replies

Siezethefish · 30/03/2022 17:47

DS has tested positive with a PCR - we are in Wales where they still do them. He has symptoms but was testing negative (and still is) with LFTs. He has been double jabbed so meets the entry requirements.

We are due to fly to Majorca on Friday.

To travel to Spain you have to fill in a questionnaire and state that if you have symptoms you will self isolate for a week

The Mirror is saying that the self isolation requirement has been removed

Can anyone advise on whether he can
a) travel
b) must self isolate?

thanks in advance!

@Oblomov22

Why would the EHIC or GHIC be still valid. Surely that would be invalidated aswell?
why? she's not doing anything illegal so why would it be invalidated?

Surely from today there will be a considerable number on every plane unaware that they or their dcs are positive - people can be asymptomatic for a few days post initial infection.

Are countries going to be testing whole plane loads of people upon arrival? What will they do with people who test positive?

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 01/04/2022 09:18

@BerthaLovelock

Lots of people can afford tests and will buy them. And lots of people have some saved up to use. I can’t imagine everyone suddenly stopping testing today. My work have told us to continue to test and not come in with covid.

in spain they dont have free tests so doubt that suddenly they'll ask for british people to pay for the tests when they dont test neither to the population. Also from this week they're not doing tests in spain unless vulnerable or 60+s so similar to this country.

My spanish family tested positive and they knew first because they had paid for a pharmacy test , same we'll have to do in the UK from today on.

ChaToilLeam · 01/04/2022 09:35

I see you have pretty much made up your mind. Hmm

EasterIssland · 01/04/2022 09:39

just info for those saying spain is still using masks indoors, news are saying they might remove them from easter on

They've extended the masks indoors in Spain only today.Until at least April 28th
maddy68 · 01/04/2022 14:30

I live in spain
The free tests have stopped from this week unless you are elderly or vulnerable.

You can buy them from the pharmacy at around €2

10 out of 10 to therunecaster - who said

"I think you are the most selfish person I've met virtually on MN"

Definitely the best insult so far.

And also a truly superb example of not reading what I have written (as in about wanting to find out if insurance can wriggle out of paying up because it seemed to me that legally you can now travel to Spain with Covid). Fortunately they haven't and will pay up.

If I wanted to get on a plane with a snotty coughing child who had tested negative repeatedly for Covid using LFTs, why would I have bothered to get a PCR test? Maybe, just maybe, it's because I recognise the moral responsibility to not go on a plane with a risk of Covid.

Anyway I have moved on from being upset by the abuse to being amused - mainly because I realise that people have such partisan views on this subject that they will ignore the facts they can read on the screen.

OP I couldn't see how you would go, unfortunately for you, if he had a +ve pcr. His Covid Pass would go so he would be denied entry. Therefore your insurance would have to pay.
The fact you did a pcr and phoned your insurance shows you are responsible, not selfish. Sorry you missed your holiday, but glad you will be reimbursed. I didn't really understand the confusion though.

luckylavender · 01/04/2022 15:43

@Siezethefish - COVID is not endemic. The definition of endemic is predictable. The government has chosen to present it in this way for its own ends. Travelling when you know someone is positive is surely the definition of being selfish / entitled.

luckylavender · 01/04/2022 15:44

@ITSupport

We were 99% certain we had Covid before we flew home last week. Day after we arrived, tested and confirmed.

No way was I going to pay to self isolate abroad so we were getting on that plane come what may

Nice

FFS - did u not read my post 3 up from this?

4.5m people have covid this week according to the ONS. That sounds endemic to me. Splitting hairs somewhat about a dictionary definition IMHO.

@Siezethefish glad it's been sorted out and insurance is responding.

And tbh imo you'd not be selfish if you travelled, if the outcome of not going was to lose your money, i'd protect myself not to infect others (FFP2! ) and travel. If we have to live with covid it's for better or for worse, not only for going to work but staying at home for the rest. it's time to move on.

Have a good holiday :)

EasterIssland · 01/04/2022 16:06

stupid me, you are not going Blush , it's been a long time :) i hope you manage to make it later in the year.

shinynewapple22 · 01/04/2022 20:35

@Watapalava

In Spain no one is tested

You walk thru and an overhead scanner looks at your temp

Not very accurate to be fair

That obviously depends on the airport! Malaga they zap you with one of the thermometers they point at your head. Although I imagine it's changing all the time if rules are changing . This was about 6 weeks ago.
shinynewapple22 · 01/04/2022 20:46

Thanks @MossyBottom
I definitely wasn't expecting airlines to have dropped the masks rule . Have flown a couple of times in last few months and felt quite safe because of all the restrictions.

Watapalava · 02/04/2022 19:06

Just arrived Spain

No one checked vax passports at all either side

Not at uk airport or Spain

Never left my bag!

Watapalava · 02/04/2022 19:06

No masks airport or plane

Notdoingthis · 02/04/2022 19:20

Which airports and airline pp?

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 02/04/2022 19:24

@Watapalava

Well this is very convenient coming from you.

My husband has flown to Barcelona last night , he said most in masks on flight, pretty much everyone in airport and vaccine passports checked twice

safefacespace · 02/04/2022 19:29

Lol at not much different to a cold.. I'm in my 20s and have been wheezing and struggling with severe shortness of breath every time I go down some stairs or put a wash on since Monday!

Schlerp · 02/04/2022 19:34

@Siezethefish if we all made up our own definitions of words imagine how much more confusing this situation would be. The Covid pandemic has not moved to epidemic level because it is not in any way predictable. 4.5m in a week is isnt predictable it’s because people don’t give a shit about isolating or masks anymore. It’s a free for all and survival of the fittest. At least call it what it really is instead of redefining medical science terms.

olive2621 · 02/04/2022 21:14

I flew to Spain 2 weeks ago. Masks on flight (Easyjet). QR code from health form scanned in Spain, vaccine certs previously uploaded.

@Watapalava Masks are still mandatory indoors in Spain. You walked through the airport without one?

Annexlife · 03/04/2022 06:54

Flew to Balearics last night. At Gatwick masks were mandatory from the gate, throughout the flight and on arrival at destination. All our documents were scanned on arrival in Spain in a very efficient and effective manner.
