DS tested positive - can we travel to Majorca?

Siezethefish · 30/03/2022 17:47

DS has tested positive with a PCR - we are in Wales where they still do them. He has symptoms but was testing negative (and still is) with LFTs. He has been double jabbed so meets the entry requirements.

We are due to fly to Majorca on Friday.

To travel to Spain you have to fill in a questionnaire and state that if you have symptoms you will self isolate for a week

The Mirror is saying that the self isolation requirement has been removed

Can anyone advise on whether he can
a) travel
b) must self isolate?

thanks in advance!

I know of 3 people who have recently returned from (different) holidays and have tested positive 4 days after the flight home. Seems that getting on a plane now means there's a high chance you are going to catch Covid. I don't think my conscience would allow me to get on a plane if I was knowingly positive but I'm pretty sure that from tomorrow there will be a high percentage of people on planes who have covid who won't have tested at all as free tests are suspended in England.

Lilaclavenders · 31/03/2022 17:02

*The majority of passengers on the plane will not have had a PCR or LFT, and it is entirely likely that some will be unknowingly carrying the virus.

Sadly, if you are ECV or are determined not to get covid, a plane is not the place for you.*

And even if people DO test, the LTF tests don't even pick up the virus until two days after you've been infectious.

Basically assume the virus is everywhere.

Lilaclavenders · 31/03/2022 17:07

I'll wear an FFP2 mask and stay away from people as long as I can but eventually I would really like to be able to go for a meal and some clothes shopping

Very understandable. But I wouldn't rely on strangers taking costly PCR tests before every trip to the shops.

LTF tests unfortunately don't pick up the virus immediately so people are infectious in the two days until the virus is picked up by the tests.

EasterIssland · 31/03/2022 17:14

@L0stinCyberspace except that could be like a cold to myself or yourself could become a pneumonia to someone who is cev. And make them end up in hospital.

saturdayhelicopter · 31/03/2022 17:15

Self isolation in Spain has been removed for asymptomatic and mild-symptom patients. I'm not sure that applies to incoming travellers though. I think the advice given with the SpTH form is going to have more weight than the Mirror.

Will you ask your son to wear a mask on the plane out of interest?

Watapalava · 31/03/2022 17:45

People are making up their own advice and rules

Government are NO LONGER advising isolation from tomorrow

No advice at all!!!!

People who are CEV will be exposed to covid on a plane - inevitable as no vax people have to test

1 in 8 have it currently

That’s 20+ people on a small plane

People won’t test because insurance won’t pay out given THERE IS NO ADVICE TO iSOLATE from tomorrow

Today there is

Tomorrow there isn’t

Delatron · 31/03/2022 17:52

It’s worse than making up their own rules and advice too. It’s accusing people of KILLING people if they get on a plane with Covid. Only they won’t know as they’re no tests. And 1 in 8 have it. That’s a lot of people walking around selfishly killing other people.

Just do the maths. Every time you go to a shop. Every time you go to a pub/restaurant.

Best thing to do is get all your vaccinations, accept you’ll come in to contact with Covid eventually if you haven’t already and that is how you will build good immunity. Like we do with other illnesses. Enough of the ‘selfish’ arguments.

Delatron · 31/03/2022 17:52

There are not they’re.

Annexlife · 31/03/2022 17:58

It's not about the UK government though as this is an outbound flight, it's about the Spanish government advise, which says you cannot travel into Spain knowing you have covid. It really is that simple.

[AUTO]jj6l6l0wdihf0 · 31/03/2022 18:16

You would have a strong possibility of killing some passengers due to your sheer irresponsibility. Like my elderly parents in their 80's with heart issues, who haven't had a holiday for 4 years, due to illness and are desperate to visit their place in Mallorca. Or anyone immunosuppressed or on Cancer treatment.

My dad is 83. Has numerous health conditions including heart problems. He has just had covid, sailed through it with no worse than cold symptoms. Being old does not necessarily mean that covid is a death sentence.

Delatron · 31/03/2022 18:19

Elderly CEV FIL just had Covid and recovered with no issues in a week. I’m hearing more and more stories like this. The vaccines are wonderful.

@absolutlynot

How old is your son op ? Just wondering if I am giving a description of a child or and adult arriving into the country on Friday from Britain to the airport. I speak Spanish
You're really deluded scary @absolutlynot 🤣🤣

I missed this gem, thanks for the poster above for highlighting it.

Get a grip people.

Therunecaster · 31/03/2022 18:44

@Siezethefish

Yes he is over 12 and double vaxxed. I am trying to ignore all the very personal insults (cunt, vile, arse etc,) but it is really upsetting to be called these by people who don't know me and can't be bothered to read my later posts and make massive assumptions.

Iwonder08 says that legally he can travel. I think she may be right. I am on the phone to the insurance (on hold) to see if they agree with that to establish whether I can get my money back - which was the point of the original post - not that most of you believe that so come on give me your best abuse, I'll put me big girl pants on. Or maybe those that have been vile themselves could actually apologise.

Good luck to all tomorrow when all restrictions lift and we won't have a clue who has and doesn't have Covid.

I think you are the most selfish person I've met virtually on MN.
theemperorhasnoclothes · 31/03/2022 19:08

I think it's really irresponsible to go on holiday with a child that has already tested positive for an illness such that their health insurance will be invalidated and they will not have any health insurance on the trip.

I suppose you'd just have to pay out of pocket for any medical care needed but that could be a lot.

theemperorhasnoclothes · 31/03/2022 19:09

I don't understand why you'd not just move the flights and accommodation to another date. This is always possible.

Watapalava · 31/03/2022 19:41

Moving a holiday is not that simple

Within 28 days of a package you lose entire holiday

Have you ever heard about European health card? Cuz it’s still valid …
Oblomov22 · 01/04/2022 06:37

Why would the EHIC or GHIC be still valid. Surely that would be invalidated aswell?

Remmy123 · 01/04/2022 07:29

There will be plenty of people on the plane with covid and not even know!

Schulte · 01/04/2022 07:40

This. It doesn’t matter what the rules in the UK are Hmm
TheKeatingFive · 01/04/2022 07:51

All these calls of selfish are redundant now. Covid is very widespread. Plenty aren't testing and plenty more have it before it's picked up by tests.

If you get on a plane now, you do it in the full knowledge that it's very likely you'll be exposed to covid. It's up to you what you do about that.

TheKeatingFive · 01/04/2022 07:54

Just wondering if I am giving a description of a child or and adult arriving into the country on Friday from Britain to the airport.

This might be the most ridiculous thing I've ever read on here.

Rewis · 01/04/2022 07:55

The UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) lets you get state healthcare in Europe at a reduced cost or sometimes for free.

If you have a UK European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) it will be valid until the expiry date on the card. Once it expires, you’ll need to apply for aGHICto replace it.
