DS tested positive - can we travel to Majorca?

Siezethefish · 30/03/2022 17:47

DS has tested positive with a PCR - we are in Wales where they still do them. He has symptoms but was testing negative (and still is) with LFTs. He has been double jabbed so meets the entry requirements.

We are due to fly to Majorca on Friday.

To travel to Spain you have to fill in a questionnaire and state that if you have symptoms you will self isolate for a week

The Mirror is saying that the self isolation requirement has been removed

Can anyone advise on whether he can
a) travel
b) must self isolate?

thanks in advance!

@Lovewineandchocolate

This is the information from the spth form you have to complete prior to travel:

"DO NOT TRAVEL if you have symptoms compatible with COVID-19: fever, cough, shortness of breath, with onset within the last 7 days, or have been diagnosed with COVID-19 within the last 7 days"

Or maybe you would rather take the advice of 'the Mirror' if that fits in better with what you want to do?

Yes this exactly - I can’t find anywhere whether the Mirror article is right or wrong. That is why I came on here to ask if anyone does know the RELEVANT rules but instead have just got a load of nastiness and emotive opinion. The Mirror article claims the rules changed on 29 March.

@stirling

regardless of the negative LFTs he has a COUGH COLD AND SORE THROAT and you deem it wise to place him onto a bloody plane full of people hoping to go on holiday to relax?

I rarely rarely get fired up to the point where I post, but this thread sickens me. Having worked in education for over 30 years I have seen hundreds of mums like you who stand at the school gate shovelling Calpol down your feverish child's throat because YOU need a day off. No consideration for others.

VILE .

Stirling - would you cancel a holiday if one of your family members had a cough cold and sore throat - so basic cold symptoms? Forget about covid here, how many people would think I’ll just throw £2k in the bin as I have a cold? Insurance won’t pay up for a cold.

What did you expect? Put yourself in someone else's shoes. You've saved years for a holiday and 2 days in you fall very ill, possibly needing hospital treatment because some selfish cunt got on a plane knowing they had covid.

So now your holiday is ruined and if you're unlucky, you or a member of your family, maybe even your son is vulnerable to covid and dies.

This is a very real possibility. My cousins little boy has cancer. His immune system is all but nonexistent. Covid would almost certainly kill him.

He might never get to go on holiday because of people like you who can't be trusted to stay home with contagious diseases. He is 7.

The official rules shouldn't matter because the common sense rule of 'don't be a self centred cunt' should prevail.

Notanotherwindow · 30/03/2022 23:53

But it's not a cold. It's covid. You know this. So it's irrelevant what you would do with a cold because he doesn't have a fucking cold. He has covid and you know it.

You're a horrible fucking person. I'm leaving this thread, it's upsetting me now but I hope your holiday is shit and you end up sat next to someone with Norovirus.

Infracat · 30/03/2022 23:54

Unbelievably selfish! I just don't know what kind of a world we're living in. When did so many become like this!!!

MimosaFields · 31/03/2022 00:05

I'm Spanish and go back home very often. The rules have not changed with regards to having a vaccination certificate including booster or recovery. I've posted the official information below. That's official not some rehashed news from The Mirror

Babyroobs · 31/03/2022 00:15

@ITSupport

We were 99% certain we had Covid before we flew home last week. Day after we arrived, tested and confirmed.

No way was I going to pay to self isolate abroad so we were getting on that plane come what may

Shocking.

Awful isn't it. It will end up with any vulnerable people never being able to risk going on holiday because of selfish idiots.

What a horrendous selfish act, save some money and fuck everyone else.

Karma will hopefully be a real bitch to you, come what may…

Lysianthus · 31/03/2022 00:34

Just back from Palma. On arrival they do hard checks. Including temperature checks. He would be asked (told) to quarantine. So fine if you are in self catering (self contained) accommodation but not in hotel. And quite strict. As an island which has been completely stuffed over past two years, they really are trying to contain it.

L0stinCyberspace · 31/03/2022 00:40

Wow. Some completely selfish fucks on this thread. Covid is NOT A COLD. It nearly landed me in hospital even after 3 vaccinations and mask wearing everywhere but 3 meals out. I hope you're sent back before you even set foot in the airplane.

Braproblem · 31/03/2022 00:45

Wow. Can't believe that someone would knowingly get on a plane with covid without a care in the world for their fellow travellers. It's awful that people are so selfish.

TheWestIsTheBest · 31/03/2022 00:49

Well this thread has thoroughly worried me. My husband is flying from Oz to Ireland very soon in order to say goodbye to his terminally ill relative, that he hasn't been able to see since Covid began. He will be taking every precaution, lets just hope he doesn't catch Covid on the plane and finish off his relative even more prematurely!

2022NameChange · 31/03/2022 01:26

And this is why I am driving to Germany for medical treatment (it's a trial) and NOT taking a plane or the Eurostar, despite being reassured I would be fine taking a plane because nobody would travel with covid... Bloody hell. I am not even OTT about Covid rules, I am CEV, but I agree life should go on as normally as possible for most people. The issue is though, so many people say well if it's not law I don't need to do the right thing. It's not even Covid it's any illness, just stay home if you're sick. And definitely don't get in a metal tube that you cannot open a window on for hours at a time..

FinnRussell · 31/03/2022 07:02

It's not a cold though. It's covid. Apart from making someone else ill potentially, the person sitting next to you might be going home to bury their mother and have to isolate and miss the funeral. You have no idea about the knock on effect you might have if you travel when positive.

uptonogoode · 31/03/2022 07:04

@ITSupport people like you disgust me

QuebecBagnet · 31/03/2022 07:11

Sadly I doubt the OP will be alone in her thoughts. I think if you fly anywhere these days you have to accept there will be covid positive people on that plane.

You run the risk of being ill abroad and run the risk of potentially having to make a decision yourself whether to isolate abroad and incur extra costs or keep quiet, fly home and repeat the cycle.

GettinPiggyWithIt · 31/03/2022 07:14

Overwhelmingly selfish

I hope you all come down with it and can’t even get on the plane.

My children have been really unwell with it all week.

Watapalava · 31/03/2022 07:22

Ok Giv advice to stay home with covid ends on Friday

It ends

People are not advised to stay home

People who are vax so not need to test to fly
Tests aren’t even available from Friday - symptoms or not- so half the bloody flight could have covid

Those who are now seriously at risk of covid are also seriously at risk if a cold or flu so honestly I won’t be giving them any more thought - presumably they will always be at risk if flying - covid or something else

1 in 4 are asymtomatix so at risk need to stop relying on others testing

Watapalava · 31/03/2022 07:25

In Spain no one is tested

You walk thru and an overhead scanner looks at your temp

Not very accurate to be fair

EasterIssland · 31/03/2022 07:27

This is also depending on the airport. Flew to 3 different airports last year and only we were stopped in one for temp and that was my husband only
olive2621 · 31/03/2022 07:27

I've just found out that a family member who tested positive for covid yesterday is planning to fly to Spain on Saturday.

Im fully supportive of covid restrictions ending but I thought that the advice was still to isolate if unwell. I can't believe this person is going to get on a plane knowing they have covid. I'm very angry with them. Perhaps in a few weeks/months this will feel normal. It doesn't feel normal yet.

Watapalava · 31/03/2022 07:31

The advice to isolate ends Friday it was in his statement

The temp testing would go unnoticed as it’s a scanner on the ceiling and someone watches from a computer

We have them in work

ItsLisaLou · 31/03/2022 07:43

Your analogy about having a cold doesn’t work at all… are you alright OP? Do you need to do some googling today about what covid is and how it works? Why it kills old people, immunocompromised people, pregnant people, etc. Might help you understand why no one on this thread agrees with you.

^this. Whether we like it or not, this. This is reality.
