DS tested positive - can we travel to Majorca?

Siezethefish · 30/03/2022 17:47

DS has tested positive with a PCR - we are in Wales where they still do them. He has symptoms but was testing negative (and still is) with LFTs. He has been double jabbed so meets the entry requirements.

We are due to fly to Majorca on Friday.

To travel to Spain you have to fill in a questionnaire and state that if you have symptoms you will self isolate for a week

The Mirror is saying that the self isolation requirement has been removed

Can anyone advise on whether he can
a) travel
b) must self isolate?

thanks in advance!

Covid is NOT endemic despite people deciding it is to justify their shitty decision making

TyrannosaurusRegina · 30/03/2022 19:37

Come on, you can't go on a plane covid positive...

Furrydogmum · 30/03/2022 19:38

My DH is flying to Majorca on Fri with a group of friends, on a long planned, and several times cancelled due to lockdowns trip. The one member of the group who thinks he has covid (awaiting pcr results) has pulled out cos he's a good bloke..

Abraxan · 30/03/2022 19:45

Covid is endemic and seen by those who have made the decision to remove all restrictions as not much different to a cold / flu

Covid is not yet endemic.

Covid for some people is much worse than a cold or even flu. A cold or flu has never had me hospitalised, covid did. A flu or cold has never left me with ongoing issues for well over a year and a life long medical condition, covid did.

Whilst we are moving towards living with covid in England, and in some other countries around the world, it doesn't mean that if we know we are definitely positive we should just ignore it.

I don't understand why you decided to test for covid if you have no intention of following the subsequent advice from the uk governments, the travel companies, their airports, guidance from other countries, etc.

Why did you test?

CavernousScream · 30/03/2022 19:53

Gosh, I’m surprised anyone would knowingly risk infecting a plane full of people. Even if you’re a ‘it’s just flu’ type, you must know that flu would ruin people’s holidays and surely wouldn’t get on a plane with flu?!

Oblomov22 · 30/03/2022 19:58

WTF?
Can't believe OP. We are due to go to Majorca and if you were on my flight I'd be livid.

mamaoffourdc · 30/03/2022 20:02

Makes me pleased that the detestation I'm going to makes you do a pcr

Shitzngiggles · 30/03/2022 20:09

I would say I can't believe what I'm reading but I absolutely can unfortunately. I've got covid at the moment. Haven't left the house, barely left my bedroom. Just wouldn't occur to me to do so never mind getting on a plane of all places. Ok it might beva mind illness for some people but it isn't the case for everyone. And then there's long covid to consider.

MadameFantabulosa · 30/03/2022 20:12

I was due to fly home to see my Mum two weeks ago, but tested positive for Covid. Did I think, oh fuck it, I’ll fly anyway and infect the whole flight? No I cancelled and rebooked my flight. Thankfully I’m now testing negative, otherwise I’d have postponed again.

Cherrysherbet · 30/03/2022 20:15

It’s unbelievable how selfish some people are. People like you are the reason we had to be locked down in the first place. Shame on you for even considering it.

Thewindwhispers · 30/03/2022 20:20

OP you said covid is now seen by the government as not much different to a cold. That simply isn’t true. They said we’re moving to individual responsibility, instead of legal force. And we all know that the real reason the restrictions were dropped was that Boris Johnson’s legal power to make covid restrictions runs out in April, and he knew that no one would vote to renew his authority what witb h everyone so livid about his administration partying through lockdowns. So he binned the restrictions early, instead of letting them run out, because that was less politically embarrassing for him. He’s a proven liar who’s trying to save his job. That doesn’t mean its ok to knowingly infect a planeload of people.

SpringsSprung · 30/03/2022 20:24

What is the point in ANY restrictions when people are strongly considering taking a fricking COVID POSITIVE person on a PLANE ffs 🤦🏼‍♀️

Turquoisesea · 30/03/2022 20:24

This is why the covid rules are a complete nonsense. You can’t travel to lots of countries if unvaccinated even with a negative test but can hop on a plane if you’ve had your jabs but covid positive. My work colleague is currently in Tenerife and caught covid in the airport / on the plane so is now having to self isolate in a hotel room! I think it would be very selfish to go on a plane knowing you are testing positive in my opinion.

janeseymour78 · 30/03/2022 20:28

This is what comes of the Boris Johnson mentality. Utterly selfishness.

Babamamananarama · 30/03/2022 20:28

My MIL has caught COVID on her holiday in Tenerife. She's planning on getting on her plane home despite still testing positive as there's no restrictions that say she can't and she 'just wants to be at home' and doesn't want the hassle of finding additional accommodation and changing her flight.

I've just recovered from cancer & a stem cell transplant and am still CEV and cannot believe the selfishness of her decision. But unfortunately I imagine planes back to the UK will be full of similarly selfish individuals now there aren't any restrictions on flying into Britain while COVID positive. Which effectively means people like me can't go on holiday abroad safely any more.

Doyoumind · 30/03/2022 20:28

It's hard to tell when these posts are real because it's so fucking plausible there are thousands or millions of people out there putting thenselves first and doing things like ruining holidays people have saved up and spent hard earned money on.

L0bstersLass · 30/03/2022 20:53

@EmbarrassingMama

I truly hope you’re not considering ruining everyone else’s trip with your selfish actions.
Yes she is. She is a disgrace.
ItsLisaLou · 30/03/2022 20:54

Oh come on, do the right thing fgs. Not everyone who has to get on planes is a healthy parent off on a jolly - some of us are vulnerable and travelling for medical reasons, work, funerals, you name it. We don’t want to be trapped with your contagious son.

Annexlife · 30/03/2022 21:01

To enter Spain you must fill in a health declaration form. Your choice therefore is to lie on the form and say he does not have covid, or not go. Morally your choice. I understand your point about the spread of covid, however as someone about to travel to Spain, I sincerely hope you aren't on my flight.

WTAFFF · 30/03/2022 21:01

I would be so pissed off if I’d saved up for a holiday and someone sitting next to me had covid. Guarantee that I’d then spend the whole week ill in bed.

This cannot be serious surely? What if you get it and need hospital treatment abroad - I’m fairly certain your insurance wouldn’t cover you if you’d knowingly travelled with a covid positive person.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 30/03/2022 21:08

You have to declare you haven’t been in contact with anyone with covid on entry to the country. In addition (from gov.uk)...

“You may also be subject to additional checks at the point of entry including a temperature check, visual health assessment, or testing on arrival. Passengers may also be contacted and required to undertake a COVID-19 nucleic acid amplification test - NAAT (PCR or similar) at any point up to 48 hours after their arrival in Spain. More information can be found on the Spanish government’s Border Health Controls webpage.”

You can also be made to isolate in a government facility at your own expense. If you travel I hope this happens.

FinnRussell · 30/03/2022 21:10

Who cares about the small print of the guidance. Would you get on a plane if you had a terrible sickness bug? Or chickenpox? No, because to pass it on to other people would be completely selfish. The same goes for covid.

CorneliusVetch · 30/03/2022 21:14

@Cherrysherbet

It’s unbelievable how selfish some people are. People like you are the reason we had to be locked down in the first place. Shame on you for even considering it.
I agree it’s awful to knowingly get on a plane covid positive but people like the OP are not why we locked down. We locked down because it was a new highly infectious virus which even significant social distancing restrictions could not contain.
derekthe1adyhamster · 30/03/2022 21:15

Does he still have symptoms? I tested positive on a pcr (despite having negative lateral flow tests for 10 days previously) but going from the day my symptoms started I was able to be back at work 3 days later 🤷
