Crazy shi*t people say about Covid and vaccines

Tradesman comes to my house once a year and I've got to know him moderately well over the years as we always chat about holidays and our kids and stuff like that. Yesterday though I told him we're going away at half term and he told me the following:

*he knows a bloke who works for AstraZeneca who told him that he'd never get the vaccine and that he shouldn't either and that anyone who did was mad;

*he also knows someone who can get him an NHS vaccine pass for £500 and if he gets desperate enough for a holiday that's what he's going to do;

*he thinks it's very suspicious that the govt were encouraging everyone to get vaccinated and wonders why they did that;

*that he had a bad flu in December and was in bed for 10 days with it, but he didn't lose his taste and smell and never had a cough, so it definitely wasn't Covid, but he didn't test, because it was flu and he's had flu before, so he knows what it feels like and that's definitely what it was;

*that he's hoping that next year all the restrictions around the un-vaccinated will be lifted as he's pinning his hopes on finally being able to go skiing again in 2023.

This is a guy who LOVES to go skiing with his mates, who told me about a miserable UK glamping holiday he and his family had in the pouring rain last summer and how shit it was, yet he's prepared to keep doing that rather than get vaccinated. I wished him good luck. He asked me not to tell him about any holidays I'm going on 🤣🤣🤣

My neighbour thinks the jab is a microchip.

Whitefire · 11/02/2022 13:51

None of that is particularly crazy shit though. He may well have had flu but it sounds like he stayed in bed the whole time, so what's the issue? Give it a few months and no one will be testing.

Of course there is a black market for covid passes and I too hope restrictions are lifted within this year.

"I know someone" though is worthy of an eye roll.

Theunamedcat · 11/02/2022 13:53

Ex works at a covid testing site doesn't believe in covid its a harmless cold yet his soon to be stepdaughter has it she is confined to her room 🤔 (I'm not pointing out the illogical nature of their decision)

CorrBlimeyGG · 11/02/2022 13:55

The latest I've heard are:

  • The vaccine has spikes of HIV in it. We're all going to get HIV.
  • After twenty weeks, the vaccine completely wipes out your immune system.

For some reason I tried to reason with the person making the above statements. I offered links to research papers that discredited their source, but they couldn't work out how to sign up to access the papers! I gave up.

Whitefire · 11/02/2022 13:55

@Justwingingit2005

My neighbour thinks the jab is a microchip.
Now that is where the crazy is, mainly because one second thought would draw the conclusion that it would be impossible.

I'm guessing they had their mobile phone in their hand when telling you this.

Theunamedcat · 11/02/2022 13:55

He also had "no reaction" to his first jab won't get the second "just in case" (in case of what?)

Theunamedcat · 11/02/2022 13:59

Former friend said you won't catch her putting muzzles on her fucking kids you can't make her! And the alcohol gel is probably a way for the teacher to get high of the fumes Same person goes ballistic if there is a positive case in the class because they are clearly not being safe and putting her kids at risk and my child has asthma! Why can't people just stay in! (Lockdown is over we can all go out now even asthmatic people)

ollyollyoxenfree · 11/02/2022 14:01

Yup.

I had a plumber round to fix an issue, he was very keen to talk about COVID not being real, the vaccines killing thousands, all that yellow card data, and a load of nonsense about D-dimer testing.

He asked what I did (as I was wfh), when I said I was an epidemiologist he proceeded to ask if I was allowed freedom of thought and how tightly did the government control what research I did and published.

He didn't seem convinced when I explained the government doesn't give a shiny shite, and that plenty of my colleagues have published various opinions that challenge "the mainstream" and were doing just fine.

He then carefully explained maybe I had been indoctrinated and wasn't aware of it Grin

rainrainraincamedowndowndown · 11/02/2022 14:03

I think it's not too far gone to compared to others though.
Things I read on internet recently are far too bonkers.
Vaccinated people get AIDS, vaccinated people's fetus looks like a parasite, urine is the latest cure, ventilators are death machine, etc, etc. But sounds like some people seriously believe it's true. Truly bonkers.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 11/02/2022 14:12

Yeah I've heard a few weird ones, one family member very insistent I (and everyone else who's been vaccinated) will be dead within a few years, not to worry though she will help bring my DC up in my absence 🙄

FflosFfantastig · 11/02/2022 14:16

It's madness to have a vaccine just so you can go on holiday. I think those people are bonkers.

Veryvversatile · 11/02/2022 15:06

What is so crazy about that? Some people do not want the vaccines, but do want to travel.

People pay anything from £100-2000 for the passes. I know many people who have. Even those who have paid for their booster as well to be up to date.

What is crazy though is, I have a group of friends currently in Chamonix, they all have bought their passes and so far so good. They were hesitant at first, being in France where they're very strict, but 3 days on and they are having a blast with no hiccups. Oh, and even crazier is that one of them didn't even have to purchase his. He had a hacker friend arrange it for him for free.

My partner isn't vaccinated (well has only had 1) and through him and his friends, I have been made aware of some remarkable work arounds to obtaining a Covid pass without vaccination.

Itsnotover · 11/02/2022 15:10

The antivaxxers I know are dim people who barely have 2 or 3 GCSEs to rub together. They are never people who've worked in a scientific or academic background. I wonder why that is?

Theunamedcat · 11/02/2022 15:21

I know some highly intelligent antivaxers they still believe they are right doing research (on YouTube) literally believe everything they see I think its because in the world we grew up in television and newspapers couldn't lie as such so they think YouTube is the same "it wouldn't be on there if it wasn't the truth" "it wouldn't be allowed"

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 11/02/2022 15:30

I have two or three fully vaccinated anti vaxxers in my circle. They’re a particularly batshit sub-group IMO. They get their jabs, then spend their time trying to justify to everyone why they did it, why they regret it, how they know they’re going to have terrible side-effects / die on a prescribed future date that’s programmed into the jab/ turn into a pumpkin and repeat.
Barking mad.

FflosFfantastig · 11/02/2022 15:45

@Veryvversatile

That's exactly what I was thinking Smile

BobbyeinArkansas · 11/02/2022 15:58

There's a lot of misinformation out there but censorship is certainly not the way to go about dealing with it. (Thinking about the Joe Rogan podcast).

Give me misinformation and rubbish any day of the week over censorship and cancel culture.

BobbyeinArkansas · 11/02/2022 16:00

By the way the only reason I am vaccinated is to travel. If there were no repercussions for not having a vaccination, I wouldn't have had one. (Not a covid denier)

Tdcp · 11/02/2022 16:07

My mother thinks it's anything from mind control to a chip to the soft kill method and beyond.

ollyollyoxenfree · 11/02/2022 16:10

@BobbyeinArkansas

I agree but equally I take a pretty dim view of people & companies like Spotify profiting from misinformation. Something controversial is always going to be clickbait and draw in the listeners, Spotify (and Joe Rogan) know this, and don't care about the harms it causes downstream.

The two episodes with Malone & McCullough are full of false claims about coronavirus & the vaccines, which will cause harm. They're also pretty offensive in terms of the repeated anti-Semitic comparisons.

I don't particularly want to give money to Spotify when they're profiting from content like this, and would argue it's not particularly censorship given that anyone can listen to Joe Rogan's podcasts on his website. A private company choosing not to host misinformation does not equate to censorship. If people were crying for the content to removed entirely from the internet you'd have a point.

Tynetime · 11/02/2022 16:16

Let me see.
The vaccine has HIV in it.
My kids will be orphaned within two years because we had the vaccine.
If my kids have the vaccine I will never be a grandparent.
They gave AZ to the vulnerable and older ones as they want to kill them off and pfizer to younger ones so they can microchip them.
The test swab breaks the blood brain barrier and changes your DNA.
Kids with no pre existing conditions must have died from vaccine damage of dome kind. Even before COVID vaccine.
It's not really a COVID death but pneumonia caused by mask wearing.
I am sure there is more. All ftom the same person.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 11/02/2022 16:20

@FflosFfantastig

It's been a completely ordinary thing to do for decades. In fact, in order to get the Men ACWY vaccine before going to university (I was just above the age cutoff) I had to go to Boots and lie to them that I was planning to go abroad. (My practice nurse heavily implied that this was the only sensible way to obtain it.) People will accept a vaccine just to go on holiday which I wasn't even allowed to buy to protect myself otherwise.
underneaththeash · 11/02/2022 16:20

My favourite was the Ocado delivery driver who didn't get his booster as his sister's friend, who has a friend who works for the Met saw a room which had lots of body bags and boxes of "glass vials". Apparently, this means that the entire virus was known about!

I did point out this was an incredibly tenuous link and they what they saw could have been anything, but he wasn't having it......

I have a friend who in all seriousness told me that the figures of unvaccinated in ICU's were made up. I pointed out I was an NHS Manager and got daily briefings direct from clinical areas and challenged why individual clinicians would 'make up' figures and was told they 'had to'. Same person also believes medical research and associated articles are controlled by Government and that 'Big Pharma' are behind it all.
Sockpile · 11/02/2022 16:26

I was at a mobile vaccine centre a couple of days ago. Three woman approached the vaccinator and told her that the vaccines are incredibly harmful, she could be arrested and charged for causing people harm by vaccinating them and that there no such thing as informed consent when it comes to vaccine so no one who had been vaccinated had actually consented.

It was surreal!
