Crazy shi*t people say about Covid and vaccines

Tradesman comes to my house once a year and I've got to know him moderately well over the years as we always chat about holidays and our kids and stuff like that. Yesterday though I told him we're going away at half term and he told me the following:

*he knows a bloke who works for AstraZeneca who told him that he'd never get the vaccine and that he shouldn't either and that anyone who did was mad;

*he also knows someone who can get him an NHS vaccine pass for £500 and if he gets desperate enough for a holiday that's what he's going to do;

*he thinks it's very suspicious that the govt were encouraging everyone to get vaccinated and wonders why they did that;

*that he had a bad flu in December and was in bed for 10 days with it, but he didn't lose his taste and smell and never had a cough, so it definitely wasn't Covid, but he didn't test, because it was flu and he's had flu before, so he knows what it feels like and that's definitely what it was;

*that he's hoping that next year all the restrictions around the un-vaccinated will be lifted as he's pinning his hopes on finally being able to go skiing again in 2023.

This is a guy who LOVES to go skiing with his mates, who told me about a miserable UK glamping holiday he and his family had in the pouring rain last summer and how shit it was, yet he's prepared to keep doing that rather than get vaccinated. I wished him good luck. He asked me not to tell him about any holidays I'm going on 🤣🤣🤣

This stuff is why I try my damndest not to get into chitchat with tradesmen. I don't want to know if they are a fucking lunatic, and if I find out I won't be hiring them again. It's in no-one's interest to have that conversation.

wonkylegs · 11/02/2022 17:20

I have a sibling who didn't want our mother to get the vaccine because it might give her Alzheimers.... she already Alzheimers and has done for many years, she is in care for in and that's why I was so keen for her to get it.
Also ALL kids are traumatised by seeing people in masks (or face nappies as they call them) - I pointed out both of mine are fine, understand the logic and aren't bothered about wearing them.
They also reckon Covid doesn't exist and my dr DH just "believes" that he was working with people dying of Covid but his beliefs aren't facts. DH has stopped talking to him.

Tonight's offering - the story behind the Handmaid's tale will become a reality as all those who have been vaccinated will be unable to have children, it will be down to those who decided against the vaccine to populate society Shock

God help us all, if that is the case!

LOL Why would they start with vaccinated the old people in that case, and they're still not doing the 5-14s who will be able to have kids in a few years so what a stupid plan it would have been :)

The latest batshit one I've heard is that the vaccine gives you HIV - I cant even think of where that one has come from.

generally though they all come from people who should have spent less time behind the bikesheds and more time concentrating in science lessons at school.

MangyInseam · 11/02/2022 18:43

I have heard the AIDS vaccine one.

I'v also head the thing about wiping the immune system, but not the vaccine, it was apparently the virus. ( I realize some viruses seem to have that ability to some extent but as far as I know there is no real reason to think that's true of covid.)

I've heard lots of people attribute random things they or their friends have experienced to the virus - I think this also happens with the vaccine but I live in an area that has high vaccination so people are more positive about it. So things like "my sister had covid and then developed skin cancer! Better get jabbed!"

MangyInseam · 11/02/2022 18:46

I think, though I am not sure, that the AIDS one came from a misunderstanding about an article about the Netherlands discovering a new strain of HIV in old samples. Which was then connected to covid.

I will say though, I do think there are fake papers and such around for sale, and also I know of someone who works in an company that produces one of the vaccines who doesn't want to get it yet. That sort of thing isn't so unusual as to be really weird.

coffeetofunction · 11/02/2022 18:47

A patient told me all NHS were being paid to say covid is real.... I must have missed that memo and additional pay

TulipsGarden · 11/02/2022 18:59

It's very sad. Social media has really done a number on some people - the gullible, the thick, and those who think they're somehow 'in the know'. It's like Brexit - if they start watching anti-vax or Covid denial stuff, their social media gets bombarded with the same type of rubbish.

Itsnotover · 11/02/2022 19:33

@Theunamedcat

I know some highly intelligent antivaxers they still believe they are right doing research (on YouTube) literally believe everything they see I think its because in the world we grew up in television and newspapers couldn't lie as such so they think YouTube is the same "it wouldn't be on there if it wasn't the truth" "it wouldn't be allowed"

Well there is that guy who died from Covid - he was a successful lawyer. I do see what you mean. Sometimes people can't cope with the truth so they invent make believe world that's easier for them to cope with.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 11/02/2022 19:34

Social media has really done a number on some people
Tiktok seems to be the source of choice for my family member, I've never been on it so i couldn't comment on its credentials

Helloninjas · 11/02/2022 19:37

I know more people with vaccine injuries then covid after effects, honestly I don’t think the people on the OP are bonkers.

Itsnotover · 11/02/2022 19:38

Also, it really annoys me when people cite thalidomide as a reason not to trust medicine.

The thing to know about that whole mess is that it was pushed to be used for pregnancy sickness by former Nazi doctors. They were not good people. They were also fully aware that thalidomide had caused birth defects in its trial phase, having given it to the wives and close associates of those profiteering from its use.

That's strange. I don't know any. But I know plenty who have long covid. And some who died.
Wellbythebloodyhell · 11/02/2022 19:51

I am very pro vaccine, but I can see that the mainstream media and social media is very one- sided in approach to reporting anything covid related

Helloninjas · 11/02/2022 19:55

@itsnotover well we all have different experiences. I know no one who has died or been hospitalised with covid and one person with long covid, but they were pretty ill with heart issues before and to me the problems they have just sound like a continuation of those.

LaQuern · 11/02/2022 19:58

And what vaccine injuries might they be?

Everyone (and I mean everyone) I know has had all three vaccines and are absolutely fine

Mol1628 · 11/02/2022 20:18

It’s made up to turn the UK into a communist country.

Something about a cashless society, crypto currency and digital slavery.

From a family member who I only half listen to as she just starts regurgitating stuff she’s read on twitter.

There really are medical scandals though. Look at vaginal mesh. Not a conspiracy, just greed and laziness.
Helloninjas · 11/02/2022 20:23

@LaQuern

Pericarditis - my mil. Collapsed after each jab and was told it was anxiety. After her booster called for an ambulance and saw a cardiologist in hospital. Ongoing investigations but still having days of weakness.

My brother -allergic reaction that started around the injection site, looked like the beginnings of impetigo. The rash then covered his whole torso and face. After that swelling of his throat and tongue and weirdly his ears started. Turned away from GP and A&E and told couldn’t possibly be a reaction to the vaccine. Eventually saw a GP, prescribed steroids, antihistamine and antibiotics as the initial rash was infected. In his words “paint me green and call me shrek” he was so swollen.

Sil, who is 20. Periods always normal. After her second jab her period were so heavy for two months so bad she was fainting. All back to normal now.

All had previously had mild covid.

PuzzledObserver · 11/02/2022 20:25

@FflosFfantastig

It's madness to have a vaccine just so you can go on holiday. I think those people are bonkers.
Really?

Well, in the past I have been vaccinated against yellow fever, typhoid and cholera, had tetanus and polio boosters and taken malaria prophylaxis, all so I could on holiday.

Am I bonkers?

XenoBitch · 11/02/2022 20:25

I have heard more bonkers things from pro-vaccine people.
Like, you will end up in ICU if you are unvaccinated and catch Covid.
Get told that all the time.

pawpaws2022 · 11/02/2022 20:29

All the people that sky news have spoken to in hospital or have had covid are actors

Itsnotover · 11/02/2022 20:30

Obviously there are things that go wrong with medicine but for the most part I doubt most of us would be without it and things improve all the time.

In the last few years I have known 4 people have success with IVF.
