Who is planning to ditch masks as soon as we are legally allowed?

Is anyone else planning to ditch the masks asap? The only reason I wear one atm is because of the legal mandate and it will go as soon as that's dropped.

If you are staunchly pro-mask then this is probably not the thread for you! I know all the arguments on both side and they have been fully rehearsed on this board for the last 2 years. I am simply interested to gauge how many people also want to ditch masks asap, when the law allows.

It would be fab if we could have a thread on this topic that didn't include the words- selfish, it's no hardship, why wouldn't you?, we're in a pandemic ffs, I wear my mask to protect others etc.... that's lovely, and we already know!

No you must not mention any other websites, especially ones beginning with the letter R. Yet the same posters have been repeatedly allowed to spread fear and misinformation on this board since the start of the pandemic.

TheKeatingFive · 20/01/2022 17:04

I think there's certainly a vibe of implied judgement

I can't see that personally, can you give any examples?

MarshaBradyo · 20/01/2022 17:04

@ilovesooty

It seems a bit ridiculous for people who didn't follow previous mask guidance anyway to bang on about Freedom Day.

Just let people wear one if they want without judging them and get on with not wearing one now it's no longer mandated if you don't want to. It is still suggested that people give consideration to wearing one in certain crowded public settings but people will have to make their own decisions.

I think there’s a fair bit in the other direction but I’m all for choice and not judging either way

Tbf I’ve never felt judged when wearing one

TheKeatingFive · 20/01/2022 17:05

That poster was a particular problem, so I'm glad the situation was dealt with.

Mariposista · 20/01/2022 17:11

My dog ate a face mask that was ditched in the park today - not sure if that's him being weird or whether he was making some kind of political statement.
That's the fifth one he has eaten since they became a thing - all accounted for fortunately. If a face mask landed me with a huge vet bill, I would be even less impressed by them.

Monsterathai · 20/01/2022 17:12

Nowt wrong with a bit of a gloat after having to listen to so much gloom! I'm honestly only pleased that restrictions are to be lifted though and don't care what anyone chooses to do re: masks as long as I'm not expected to follow suit (guidance is guidance, not law).

IcedPurple · 20/01/2022 17:12

@MarshaBradyo

Ah yes indie SAGE and any circuit breaker callers

I hope that’s it and they drift off into the sunset now!

I doubt it. They'll be looking for a way to make their 15 minutes stretch out as long as possible.
IcedPurple · 20/01/2022 17:15

@MarshaBradyo

Iced the one that if you suggested they wanted a lockdown would declare it was a sure sign that one was coming. More bar snack than wise ;
How about the 'expert' who assured us, what with her being an expert and us being mere plebs, that Chris Whitty would have declared a Level 5 Health Emergency by now?
Monsterathai · 20/01/2022 17:18

@IcedPurple that's who I meant - that poster was a real Old Testament style harbinger of doom!

Againstmachine · 20/01/2022 17:22

I think there's certainly a vibe of implied judgement going on and a fair bit of gloating

I think a bit of gloating isn't too bad, seeing as people have been called arseholes, gloating is kind of tame.

Sunnyd71 · 20/01/2022 17:24

Not seen anything too judgy on here but on the COVID boards you see it a lot. Example
OP, there are too many hysterical mask enthusiasts out there.

Silverswirl · 20/01/2022 17:30

@Iggly

This thread just demonstrates how narrow minded people can be.

I will wear one on public transport as when I’m commuting I tend to not want to sniff and snivel over everyone when I’ve got a cold.

Has it really been that bad having public health measures in place?

Yes it really really has. Masks take more than they give.

Certainly that sort of thing would be an example.
MarshaBradyo · 20/01/2022 17:35

There’s been plenty the other way - selfish and worse

Time to let go of the control re other people either way

Totally agree with this!
Sunnyd71 · 20/01/2022 17:46

@ilovesooty it was on another thread. Not sure it it was the same one as the gem COVID Cultist. I guess it was an update on Lockdown Lover.
Seriously you get insults thrown both ways sadly.

Lolamento · 20/01/2022 17:48

I will keep mine on but only because I do not want to wear make up. I had a bad experience at a restaurant when the last mandate was over. A woman who were working as the host and reception. She had a go at me about how masks were not longer required. She was borderline psycho 🤣

todaysdilemma · 20/01/2022 18:12

I can't wait to stop wearing mine! I've always found them uncomfortable, they affect my vision looking down, get so damp in the winter and sweaty in the summer. And I can't breathe comfortably through them. But mostly, I hate not being able to see people's faces. I saw a mum with a wee bab on the train last week, and she had a mask on and I kept thinking - this child was born during covid and has likely spent a lot of time seeing his parents with half their faces covered (I live somewhere where public transport is the norm). It made me wonder what the long term impact is on babies who grow up not being able to see or read human expressions. Very very glad this isn't going to be the norm anymore.

VikingOnTheFridge · 20/01/2022 18:29

I don’t recall the name but I do remember the posts re U.K. falling apart and leaving to undisclosed country (who apparently didn’t have omicron)

Is that the one who'd allegedly been to another European country that was doing everything right but she repeatedly refused to name? If so, she was on the other day telling us what an expert she was. In retrospect it did read a bit like a crazy sign off post.

2X4B523P · 20/01/2022 18:47

Ah yes the actuary, apparently to stop the spread we had to SIT THE FUCK DOWN.

TheKeatingFive · 20/01/2022 19:00

Ah yes the actuary, apparently to stop the spread we had to SIT THE FUCK DOWN.

Oh yeah, how could I forget, that gem was aimed at me 😆

Not sure what sitting the fuck down had to do with anything, does that impede spread?

2X4B523P · 20/01/2022 19:04

Lol. Think it must, I suppose when your sitting your exerting less which must lower the viral load or something?

MarshaBradyo · 20/01/2022 19:19

That made me laugh and still does reading it again 😂

We were all so wrong apparently as the expert knew

Some people have just utterly lost it during the pandemic. Okay I don’t like masks, but I also don’t like skinny jeans and I’m not going to berate somebody else for wearing those!
JellyOnAPlatewithicecream · 20/01/2022 21:58

I've been saying since Christmas COVID is basically a bad cold now (as long as triple vaccinated) and we need to just start living with it, like how we do flu, and get on with our lives. People were saying things like we just need to accept that things will never be the same again, we need to get used to doing all our exercise classes / work / dates / socialising on zoom, and you're unreasonable / stupid / selfish if you don't get that. Hmm clearly not...
