Who is planning to ditch masks as soon as we are legally allowed?

Is anyone else planning to ditch the masks asap? The only reason I wear one atm is because of the legal mandate and it will go as soon as that's dropped.

If you are staunchly pro-mask then this is probably not the thread for you! I know all the arguments on both side and they have been fully rehearsed on this board for the last 2 years. I am simply interested to gauge how many people also want to ditch masks asap, when the law allows.

It would be fab if we could have a thread on this topic that didn't include the words- selfish, it's no hardship, why wouldn't you?, we're in a pandemic ffs, I wear my mask to protect others etc.... that's lovely, and we already know!

This time next week.... FREEDOM DAY II 🎉🎉🍾

JuergenSchwarzwald · 20/01/2022 16:18

[quote Xenia]Masks went back in in about late November in England in shops and public transport but have been 100% required on the London underground as far as I remember for at least 18 months and are almost unbearable and I just hope S Kahn does the right thing and gets rid of them there too although apparently he won't

I don't think having to wear them on public transport is a bad thing.

But although the tube is often crowded the ventilation is actually pretty good with windows at either end of a carriage, unlike the mainline trains that are hermetically sealed.

As an aside, does anyone remember the name of that poster who claimed to be an actuary and moved her family out of the UK as omicron was going to be so bad? I remember someone saying that they would resurrect the post in about a month (this must have been about a month ago) to see if her morbid predictions came true.

I don’t recall the name but I do remember the posts re U.K. falling apart and leaving to undisclosed country (who apparently didn’t have omicron)

Wonder if they’d admit to getting it wrong

MarshaBradyo · 20/01/2022 16:32

There was another one who said we’d definitely end in lockdown if we didn’t do more restrictions

Absolutely certain. Think they’ve disappeared too

Monsterathai · 20/01/2022 16:33

Yes! I'd love to see if any of the usual suspects might admit that omicron is not as bad as originally feared, and that not introducing more restrictions was a good call (I say this through no love of BoJo mind you Grin)

Yes, I think their username read a little like an anagram of 'truth'
MarshaBradyo · 20/01/2022 16:36

They always just go when it’s more positive so I suppose it’s a good sign for everyone else!

Odd to only talk about most negative scenarios but hey I’d rather be where we are

I haven't seen anything from NannyAndJohn for a while!

The same person predicting full lockdown by the end of last December? And saying that we'd all soon be 'crying out for a lockdown'?

Wisely, they seem to have gone incognito.

TheKeatingFive · 20/01/2022 16:48

I haven't seen anything from NannyAndJohn for a while!

She popped up under a devilishly clever new user name a month or two ago and then fizzled out again. She was easy to spot because she was banging on about Zoom Christmas dinners.

Not sure what happened then.

My mask will remain firmly on.

MarshaBradyo · 20/01/2022 16:52

Iced the one that if you suggested they wanted a lockdown would declare it was a sure sign that one was coming. More bar snack than wise ;

TheKeatingFive · 20/01/2022 16:53

that not introducing more restrictions was a good call

Nothing on earth would make them admit that.

I wonder what the Indy Sage doom mongers are doing now too. I'm not going on Twitter to find out mind you.

ilovesooty · 20/01/2022 16:53

It seems a bit ridiculous for people who didn't follow previous mask guidance anyway to bang on about Freedom Day.

Just let people wear one if they want without judging them and get on with not wearing one now it's no longer mandated if you don't want to. It is still suggested that people give consideration to wearing one in certain crowded public settings but people will have to make their own decisions.

MarshaBradyo · 20/01/2022 16:54

Ah yes indie SAGE and any circuit breaker callers

I hope that’s it and they drift off into the sunset now!

TheKeatingFive · 20/01/2022 16:57

Just let people wear one if they want without judging them

I don't think anyone's judging those choosing to wear a mask

ilovesooty · 20/01/2022 16:58

We don't know whether it was a good call or not really. What we do know is that Johnson has dumped Plan B to save his own job. It might turn out OK : it might not.

TheKeatingFive · 20/01/2022 16:58

I hope I never hear the phrase 'Circuit Breaker' again

I won't judge anyone for still wearing one, as long as it goes both ways.

I think there's certainly a vibe of implied judgement going on and a fair bit of gloating from some posters, which isn't very pleasant. I honestly think it's a bit early to say how things will turn out.

No. I work in a school and covid is absolutely rampant at the moment.
