Who is planning to ditch masks as soon as we are legally allowed?

Is anyone else planning to ditch the masks asap? The only reason I wear one atm is because of the legal mandate and it will go as soon as that's dropped.

If you are staunchly pro-mask then this is probably not the thread for you! I know all the arguments on both side and they have been fully rehearsed on this board for the last 2 years. I am simply interested to gauge how many people also want to ditch masks asap, when the law allows.

It would be fab if we could have a thread on this topic that didn't include the words- selfish, it's no hardship, why wouldn't you?, we're in a pandemic ffs, I wear my mask to protect others etc.... that's lovely, and we already know!

@DaisyMum40

Restrictions were never about protecting the vulnerable though.....restrictions were to protect the nhs, to stop them becoming too overwhelmed

Hortensia16 · 19/01/2022 20:19

TFL have never enforced mask wearing on tubes and buses so they're not likely to start now! Khan is a waste of space.

Againstmachine · 19/01/2022 20:22

So I zm not diminishing ehat they lost but again they haven't given up 2 years of their life and any restrictions wasn't just to protect the old abd those with medical conditions. It was yo stop the NHS bring overwhelmed do they could treat the young and healthy when they needed it. . Everyone suffered during school closures especially. My physical and Mental Health definitely took a nosedive but is wasn't two years thank God.

Ah but it seems two years isn't enough , it seems we haven't given up enough for the NHS, the vunerable ,ect it never ends.

Oh and if you want to play top trumps with mental health, I tried killing myself but hey it's to save everyone else.

ChiefStockingStuffer · 19/01/2022 20:22

Fun! An OP that asks that all sensible, rational arguments for when masks should of course continue to be used not be brought up.

nzborn · 19/01/2022 20:23

No

Quite.

Lockdowns should only be used in times of extreme crisis - eg war, nuclear threat, or a virus more akin to highly contagious Ebola.

Using lockdowns as a way of managing underfunded public services is absolute madness.

This. So much this.

Northsoutheastwest76 · 19/01/2022 20:30

Anyway got to put my 2 SEN kids to bed so I'm out as clearly I am so privileged . Yeah so very lucky to have an immunosupressed dh and having a flare of my own autoimmune condition right now.

Oblomov22 · 19/01/2022 20:31

Can't wait. Hate them. Fortunately don't need to wear for work, so only wear it for sainsburys, but hate them.

Againstmachine · 19/01/2022 20:33

I accept the first Lockdown but not for as long as it was, Lockdown should have only been used once to regroup and re-evaluate during the time it gives you, to restrict healthy people and healthy business, is unacceptable.

I'm glad you find it fun! Smile Of course, there are many different questions that one can ask, and mine was for people who are not interested in wearing masks once it is no longer legally mandated. Maybe you could ask people who are interested in wearing masks past next Wednesday to explain their excellent reasoning?
AnybodyAnywhere · 19/01/2022 20:37

I will keep wearing them at every opportunity because I had a Stroke 7 weeks ago and the mask stops people staring at my lopsided face.

You can't expect everyone to put their life's to hold to protect you, it becomes on you to protect yourselfs especially if there is two of you who are immunsupressed, as you would be used to pre covid

Northsoutheastwest76 · 19/01/2022 20:42

@Againstmachine where have I said it isn't enough. I am as glad as anyone Lockdown is a thing of the past. It was shit but necessary at the time. But restrictions have pretty much ended. Sorry about your issues. You must have been so low.
My post was a cross post and I was just being honest. With respect I had no idea of your struggles and you had no idea about mine so I have just have no idea what I had said that was so bad. In fact I am still struggling especially today physically.

Kathsmum · 19/01/2022 20:44

Agree. Few people seem to wear them now.

TooMuchSugar22 · 19/01/2022 20:46

We haven't been wearing them anyway. Binned them all months ago.

Northsoutheastwest76 · 19/01/2022 20:48

Again I have not asked anyone to protect me. My autoimmune condition is very new. Literally diagnosed today and DH shielded but is now living his life like everyone else as have I.

Northsoutheastwest76 · 19/01/2022 20:50

To clarify I have had symptoms for 6 months but was never actually diagnosed until today.

Againstmachine · 19/01/2022 20:58

Well I fail to see what point of mentioning it was if you don't want anyone to protect you.

You said people haven't given up things even though they have.

nevergoesaway · 19/01/2022 20:59

“Lockdowns should only be used in times of extreme crisis - eg war, nuclear threat, or a virus more akin to highly contagious Ebola.”

@Cheekypeach covid seems much harder to manage than Ebola, but I agree with you about the harm of these lockdowns.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 19/01/2022 21:00

I've given up already as most people locally have too .
Have we had selfish and murderer yet ? If so , Bingo !

Againstmachine · 19/01/2022 21:05

We have had selfish and arsehole.

Northsoutheastwest76 · 19/01/2022 21:11

@Againstmachine please show me where I said that.

As far as I remember all I said was that kids haven't forfeited two years of their life and than went on to list examples of things they have lost.

I think I also said everyone suffered during lockdown.

Againstmachine · 19/01/2022 21:16

You dimished it by saying it hasn't been two years well what did you mean by that. To me it means it hasn't been enough.

Northsoutheastwest76 · 19/01/2022 21:38

I was just stating the truth. It hasn't been two years. Didn't realise you could read so much into a simple fact.
Anyway definitely out now as this is derailing the thread.
Hope you remain well @Againstmachine
