No period since covid vaccine

whereissit · 02/01/2022 23:38

I had my first covid vaccine in August and haven't had a period since. I'm going to book a drs appointment when they reopen but I'm so worried. I know lots of women have had issues with their period but has anyone else missed so many?

@2fallsfromSSA

France I think, with negative Covid tests. I think that’s pretty much it.

Serengetti · 08/01/2022 20:31

@BoPeeple. Foreign travel isn't really isn't an issue for us as we holiday in the UK, if at all (we have horses and other animals keeping us home!). If when our teen girls are older/adults this nonsense is still going on and they wish to travel abroad, they can reassess.

Frankly if we were regular foreign holiday makers, we as a family would happily sacrifice them for a few/couple of years until the situation is clearer.

UninspiredUsername1 · 08/01/2022 20:38

And this is exactly why I'm not allowing my 15yr daughter to have the jab.
It's messed up my otherwise clockwork cycle since having the first jab. There's no way I'm gambling with my daughters fertility.

Twickerhun · 08/01/2022 20:48

My period was more than 100 days late after the first vaccine and has been messed up since. I'm currently on day 24 of my second period after the vaccine. I seem to have started peri menopause at exactly the same time as I was vaccinated. Probably a coincidence

She's 15. She can decide for herself.
UninspiredUsername1 · 08/01/2022 21:13

@PAFMO yes she can, and she's decided not to have it because she's a very sensible & level headed girl who doesn't want to take chances with her developing body.
But even if she was leaning towards having it, I'd be heavily persuading her to wait until there is enough long term evidence (ie years not months because that's not long enough to tell for current teens) that fertility isn't affected.

BoPeeple · 08/01/2022 22:09

@Serengetti We holiday in the UK too, but my ex wants to take them abroad this summer to a country where they’ll have to be vaccinated.
Not sure what to do about that as they want to go and I can’t overrule them. But I don’t think it’s sensible (or necessary) to vaccinate young teens.

NeilTheBaby · 08/01/2022 22:17

Just to give a bit of balance- it's not just the the vaccine that fucks up periods, it's Covid too.
I've had Covid twice and it made me bleed early and very, very heavy and for longer last time and has just started doing the same this time.

That said, I won't be allowing my daughter to get jabbed.

Serengetti · 08/01/2022 22:50

My girls feel the same @UninspiredUsername1

massiveblob · 08/01/2022 22:58

This thread had really made me wonder. I'm peri too so assumed that my haywire periods over last 7 months were that. No period since booster 6 weeks ago so assumed menopause kicking in. Having hot flushes etc. Hard to know.
I would like to know quite how common this is

Thievesoil · 08/01/2022 23:17

I think it’s hugely underreported

A number of my friends have had issues like this after their vaccine. One of my friends had a period every two weeks for three months and became anemic!

None of them have yellow carded as it’s a faff

I would worry less if it was indeed bouncing back to normal but in my friends case it’s still not right although has improved a little. Luckily she doesn’t want any more kids but what if she did? Is this not an effect on her fertility?

DistrustfulDinosaur · 09/01/2022 00:56

Another disgusting example of how women are fobbed off when reporting irregular cycles to medical professionals. After having Lletz a number of years ago, I bled 3 weeks out of 4 for almost 2 years (developing nasty sores), despite having previously had regular 5 day periods out of 30 days to the dot between the ages of 14 and 30 years old. No doctor expressed any concern and I didn't realise the yellow card scheme for reporting side effects existed until now.

Gardeningtipsneeded · 09/01/2022 01:00

Nothing weird I noticed after the first two but I had my booster 30th Nov and no period since. My last period was 16th Nov. I do normally have a longer cycle but this is odd. Did a PT yesterday and am not (thank G-d).

GoodnightGrandma · 09/01/2022 07:09

My DD also has not had a period since her jab but won’t go to the GP about it.

Hot flushes and missing periods during menopause is obviously extremely common. As all the studies carried out thus far have shown, temporary cycle disturbances come with Covid vaccines in quite a lot of cases, Covid infection in others, and other vaccines too. (as said before, as most of these are administered pre-puberty, they don't have a relevant effect, but there are studies about women having vaccines later and reporting these temporary disturbances)

@DistrustfulDinosaur, had you had a vaccination? Weren't you referred to a specialist about that amount of bleeding? You must have been very anaemic. Hope it's sorted out now. Flowers

@UninspiredUsername1, she may well be sensible, but I'd be worried who she'd been talking to and what she'd been reading.

Beachcomber · 09/01/2022 08:24

How can people claim with any certainty that covid vaccines don't affect fertility when women are missing periods following vaccination? Sometimes for several months.

Or are people suggesting that ovulation and ability to conceive during these period less months are unaffected?

Because I find that very hard to believe.

If people mean "long term fertility" is not affected then they should say that.

LifesABotch · 09/01/2022 08:32

@LettertoHermoine

My Friends mum GOT a period after the Vaccine. She is 68. Won't be vaccinated my daughter either.
Shock
Ridiculousradish · 09/01/2022 09:47

Every one of my close female friends has had their cycle affected by the vaccine - either no periods, really heavy periods, 2 periods a month etc. The fact the medical profession are so quick to dismiss it when queried makes me really angry and sad. Does it not matter because it's happening to women? If something was happening to men on such a large scale there would be uproar. It's bullshit.

Ridiculousradish · 09/01/2022 09:50

Would be far better if they just admitted they don't know why it is affecting periods, but they'll find out. Pretending it's either unrelated or unimportant feels like gaslighting.

BoPeeple · 09/01/2022 10:22

@PAFMO

she may well be sensible, but I'd be worried who she'd been talking to and what she'd been reading.

One the one hand you say that a 15-year-old can decide for herself and then you worry about her being influenced. Which is it?

(Personally I don’t think children under 18 can make an informed decision on this).

massiveblob · 09/01/2022 12:28

Is this something Mumsnet could campaign about? Research & explanations

Darhon · 09/01/2022 12:59

Every one of my close female friends has had their cycle affected by the vaccine - either no periods, really heavy periods, 2 periods a month etc.

And none of mine have mentioned any issues - I track my periods in apple and my cycles have all been largely the same since April when I had my first vaccine. I had a slightly shorter cycle last month when I was the longest length of time since a vaccine in the last 6 months - then my normal cycle again this month. So this is just anecdotal. I definitely support further research though which IS happening.

Jobseeker19 · 15/01/2022 10:55

Day 6 of being late and no PMS symptoms.

Kjcf · 15/01/2022 14:15

I’m really worried about vaccinating my girls, but we have a holiday booked for August and unless we vaccinate them, we can’t go and will loose the money already paid. It’s a horrible dilemma and ridiculous that we are being put in this situation, when they are at absolutely no risk

Depending on when/ if you had a booster you may not be able to go anyway

The eu vaccine passport will only last 270 days (9 months)
So if you got boostered on November 1, 2021 it means that 270 days later would be July 29, 2022
This gets launched in a couple of weeks
