No period since covid vaccine

I had my first covid vaccine in August and haven't had a period since. I'm going to book a drs appointment when they reopen but I'm so worried. I know lots of women have had issues with their period but has anyone else missed so many?

@MixedUpChameleon @YellowTulip22

Im glad your cycles and hormone levels have gone back to normal, that must be such a relief for both of you!

@MixedUpChameleon its funny you mention hair loss as I was gradually losing hair in peri (a bit thin at the front on one side) but after the first vaccine I had completely lost a patch of my hair about the size of a 50p coin on the back of my head. It’s grown back now but I didn’t make any connection to possible vaccine induced hormone levels. But looking back this ties in. But don’t suppose I’ll ever know what caused it.

Im going to be at the One year mark next week since my last period. My hot flushes and night sweats have returned over the past few weeks but am so over this now. I am hoping that they don’t last too much longer. I just want to come out the other side a bit more human!

Yes the hair loss was a tricky one to pin point exactly what caused it. On my blood tests that I had taken back in Sept I had very high fsh but also very low iron. Either of which can cause hair loss. Glad to say my hair is no longer falling out. I have lost an awful lot of it though which is really sad. X

Congratulations. It's very hard to go through this alone with no one to reassure you or offer any kind of reason as to why the jab does This. I felt in total panic. My FSH level had risen to 56 and I was having 20 hot flushes a day. Constant headache. Night sweats. Unable to sleep.

Then my wonderful body managed to rebalance itself. Slowly but surely the hot flushes became less frequent. I started to get cervical mucus again. The headache started to go away. I started to sleep like a log with no hot flushes. My sex drive started to return. I had about 6 days of light light light spotting which I counted as a weird break through bleed.. 2 weeks after that I ovulated.. and 2 weeks after that I had my period.

I should also add that my hair was falling out due to the hormone imbalance. My hair is now not falling out anymore. My skin feels like a babies. It was so rough and bumpy during the menopause experience. Never again will I take hormones for granted.

Anyway. I just really feel women need hope and reassurance that our bodies are very good at rebalancing and just need time.

Xx

Thanks! And congrats to you too! Suuuuper glad we're both back to normal. I looked everywhere in the internet, there were so many (I read through thousands of posts on fb and reddit) women that had their cycles disrupted after the vaccine. I really wanted to see how many eventually got their periods back, or if my ovaries are not responding and truly "done" as my gyno said.

You're actually the only one that stayed in touch and kept me up to date with details on how your body bounced back. Thank you so much for sharing. 🙏
I wish all the best to you 💖

@YellowTulip22 Yes me too. Was searching for answers that I couldn't seem to find. I felt full of fear with it all. I hope that if anyone else goes through the same experience and they Google that they come across this thread. There's light at the end of the tunnel so to speak.

Wishing you all the best too. X

My periods stopped for a couple of months after each covid vaccine injection (I have now had 4) . They also stopped after I had covid in the summer, for slightly longer.

The balance of the hormonal system that controls menstruation is quite complex with a lot of feedback loops. I have already had my kids, so I wasn't in the situation of worrying about current or future fertility, and I do appreciate that if I were desperately trying to get pregnant it would have been very upsetting.

I did wonder a few times myself - oh is this the menopause? - and then my period went bang back to normal within a week or 2.

From what I've read, it seems very much most likely that the interruptions to menstruation are temporary phenomena, due to short term physiological changes after infection or vaccination, and that long term fertility is not significantly affected.

I believe there is ongoing research to look at medium and long term population data that will throw a bit more light on this phenomena.

Yes I think it is quite a common thing to happen. Once there is more research and doctors are properly educated on it it will be better. What I found most troubling was the lack of any answers as to why I was going through strong menopause symptoms at 35/36. All the doctor could tell me was that my FSH level was post menopause. What a frightening thing to hear at 35 and 36. Thankfully my FsH levels are now down to 4.4 but for a time I was really really worried. X

I'm so glad that I've seen this thread. I thought I was the only one. I'm 46, had my third covid jab (Moderna) back in December 2021 and have not had a period since. I know my age could be a huge deciding factor, but prior to the third jab I was having periods. I went to the doctors around July 2022 and they also said my hormonal levels were high (possibly menopause). The funny thing is I have ZERO symptoms. I haven't put on any weight, I don't get hot flushes and I haven't had any night sweats. Also I'm deadling with a bereavement so I wonder if this is stress related? I just want my period back.

I'm glad you found this thread too. I've had this happen twice now after both moderna jabs. Haven't had a booster and won't. I'm back to normal now. Periods are back. FSH level was 4.1 last time I had it checked. At the height of the hot flashes after jab it was up to 53. I'm 36.

It's defo just some weird hormonal imbalance that the jabs seem to cause. A lot more serious than the studies they've done show. The studies say the average woman's period is 3 days late. That's not true. Lots of us lost our period for months on end.

I'm sure you will get your period back. Your body just needs time to rebalance. I started meditating to reduce stress. Took supplements and stayed away from alcohol. Now I'm back to normal thankfully.

Good luck xx

Thanks.

It's really difficult to pinpoint, as I had a bereavement exactly a year ago as well so I'm not sure if it's due to the stress.

I refused to believe it was menopause as I don't have any symptoms. I had a strange sort of spotting after four months, but then nothing. I had periods like normal after the first two jabs (both Oxford/Astrazeneca), but my third booster was Moderna. It just seemed to put a stop to everything.

The way the doctor and nurse just dismissed me was incredibly frustrating.

I really hope it comes back as the nurse told me if my period doesn't come back after a year I've entered menopause😳

MixedUpChameleon · 10/01/2023 21:17

@MMMBE1 yes it's quite alarming isn't it when the doctors say things like that. Imagine me being told I'm 'post menopause' by my doctor at 36! I refused to believe it though and did a lot of research and realised that a high FSH level is just a snapshot of what's happening in the body at that time and doesn't mean it's anything permanent. The jab causes an imbalance to such an extent that it's like our ovaries completely go dormant for a while. I'm sure the stress of the bereavement won't have helped. If you can start to try and work on feeling better emotionally I'm sure your body will catch up.

Mine took about 3 months to rebalance after my first jab and 6 months after my second.

As I said, I did start meditating for 20 minutes each morning and I do think that really helped.
