No period since covid vaccine

whereissit · 02/01/2022 23:38

I had my first covid vaccine in August and haven't had a period since. I'm going to book a drs appointment when they reopen but I'm so worried. I know lots of women have had issues with their period but has anyone else missed so many?

@Newbie8365 I’m sorry to hear that. It’s so worrying isn’t it. You should log it at some point at your GP and on the Yellow Card scheme. I wish I had some advice for you but I’m stuck here too.

Can I ask how old you are?

Hamilfan · 07/01/2022 18:46

I was the same, periods went haywire after 1st vaccine in April, then stopped altogether after my 2nd in June. It finally came back in October and seems normal again (even after having my booster) but my GP was the same, not really all that interested.

EarPlugAfficionado · 07/01/2022 18:51

It’s a female issue so sadly it hasn’t and probably won’t be taken seriously. If men were getting erectile dysfunction after their jabs…. Then I bet something would be done/discussed.

RedWB · 07/01/2022 18:55

@EarPlugAfficionado ha yes! Can you imagine men not being able to get it up for a few months after each jab and GPs just shrugging their shoulders

“Probably stress hun” Hmm

whymewhyme · 07/01/2022 19:00

Please report it to yellow card.

Newbie8365 · 07/01/2022 19:06

@Allisoninwunderland I'm sorry to hear that you are in the same boat. I really wish I didnt have the booster as I caught covid anyway! Really hope we aren't required to have anymore boosters. I'm 30 btw.

I will yellowcard it now.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 07/01/2022 19:12

Yep, my cycle is normally 31-34 days. After my jabs it was 48 and 89.

It went back to normal the following cycle each time though.

Cakeybake · 07/01/2022 21:20

Similar story here, had my booster on 18th, then tested positive for covid on 22nd. It's now been 8 weeks since my last period. Normally very regular, albeit on a 5 week cycle. Confused

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/01/2022 22:02

Mine have been normal in length and regularity but I've been noticing bleeding about a week after it has finished. I'm not having any more of these vaccines anyway. I've had the booster and Covid and that's enough now.

letmeeatcrisps · 08/01/2022 09:32

There is a study in today’s news about the effects of the vaccine on women’s periods, it’s all very quiet over here on mumsnet about it !

BornOnTwelfthNight · 08/01/2022 13:45

I had my first vaccine in April, second in July. Had no periods from April until September.
Also periods went back to being long and heavy when previously they’d been short and light.

Confusednet · 08/01/2022 14:04

@whereissit sorry no advice but this must be very worrying for you Flowers

So much is "being done" regarding the link between coronavirus/vaccines & the menstrual cycle and I find it strange to see this repeatedly cropping up on every thread

Here's a good summary of the current research by an immunologist at imperial who specialises in reproductive health.

She also has a good explaining on vaccines and fertility:

In fact, multiple strands of evidence tell us that COVID vaccines do not reduce fertility.

Have you had a booster yet and if so, did it also affect your period?

AIMummy · 08/01/2022 15:32

Mine wasn't delayed after each vaccine but actual Covid delayed it for 4 months.

Serengetti · 08/01/2022 15:47

Of all the forums/groups I'm on, MN is the most dismissive of Covid jab side effects.

I had the first two and my periods disappeared for 3 months. My SIL collapsed after having her first, yet still went for the second because she felt pressured to do so.

No way on Earth will those vaccines be going anywhere near my teenagers and I won't be having anymore.

LettertoHermoine · 08/01/2022 15:53

My Friends mum GOT a period after the Vaccine. She is 68. Won't be vaccinated my daughter either.

Florence08 · 08/01/2022 15:59

Surely this raises issues of informed consent? Shouldn’t information regarding the possibility of disruption to menstrual cycles be given to all women pre vaccination?

Bettyboopawoop · 08/01/2022 16:03

I have also saw a number of people complaining of thyroid issues after the vaccine too.

Em8725 · 08/01/2022 16:06

I had haywire ones too. After first dose in March I didn’t have a period for 3 months. Had my second dose in July and it brought a period on, then did the same after my booster at Christmas, I had a period when I wasn’t due. I’ve been on since. It’s horrible and I have yellow carded each one. I told my gp and he completely dismissed any concerns and said it wasn’t possible.

leafyygreens · 08/01/2022 16:07

Not when it hasn't been identified to be causal.

It would be unethical to give people a long list of side effects associated with the vaccine, when there isn't good enough evidence that they are caused by them.

Exactly the same as it would be unethical to tell patients that COVID infection causes things that have not been established yet. It doesn't help inform consent.

BoPeeple · 08/01/2022 16:37

I don’t want to vaccinate my menstruating teens for this reason and they agreed. One has only just started her periods and they are yet to settle and the other has a history of terrible periods that leave her floored. They’ve only just settled down.

But their dad wants to take them abroad in the summer and they want to go so it looks like the choice is taken away from us.

BoPeeple · 08/01/2022 16:39

@Serengetti @LettertoHermoine

What will you do if they want to go abroad? I feel forced to vaccinate mine so they can travel.

stripeyflowers · 08/01/2022 16:45

@AllisoninWunderland

Mine too. I’m peri so they were a bit wonky but the vaccine has basically ended them. I’m gutted.

Not having any more vaccines. No way. Had other side effects too. Also had Covid which was very mild. So yeah, the vaccine is history for me.

This is an easily-observable side effect. What worries me is that there may be side-effects and changes in the body brought about by the vaccine that are not so obviously observable.
2fallsfromSSA · 08/01/2022 17:18

Is there anywhere you can take unvaccinated teens? This is a real worry. My youngest dd has just turned 12 and hasn't started her periods yet. I don't want her to have the vaccine yet fir this reason.
