My Christmas is cancelled

My husband tested positive.

I cant tell you how much I needed this Christmas. The one time of the year where all of my family and family friends make eachother a priority so that we are together. I hate this. We cant get an online shop because slots are full, and we don't own a car.

Sorry to read this. We are the same. Keep checking online slots, I managed to get one for my Mum and one for me this evening. Before then, there was nothing.
It really does suck, we are poorly here, just feel rotten so at least don’t have to think about it for now

greyinganddecaying · 19/12/2021 01:48

We are in a similar position.

Do you have friends/neighbours who could collect a click and collect order for you?

lemmein · 19/12/2021 01:49

Aw no, shit timing- can you get a click and collect slot and pick it up in a taxi? I'd keep checking the delivery slots - a lot of people hold them early then cancel as the date gets closer. I got one for the 23rd yesterday.

FlibbertyGiblets · 19/12/2021 01:50

This is where you call in all your favours. Friends and family will step up, they will still make you a priority, bringing you groceries and gifts, for doorstep drops.
Tell them tomorrow, you will watch them swing into action, showing how friendship and family ties work in concert to support their groups.

I am sorry, no one wants this awful situation, have a non Mumsnetty hug.

lemmein · 19/12/2021 01:52

Just realised you might not be able to pick up in a taxi if you're isolating too 🤦🏻‍♀️ (I don't even know the rules on self-isolating anymore!)

If no family members can collect pop a post on your local FB pages - I would collect someone's shopping for them in these circumstances, or Uber?

Thank you. I... dont know if this will happen. All of our families live several hours away and only a few of them can drive. I dont have any friends locally, and dont know my neighbours really. I feel so isolated and lost

I'm glad you got a shop for yourselves ❤ I'm sorry to hear you are so poorly. Get well soon

No click&collect slots available at any of our 4 local supermarkets either 😕

I will keep checking though, thanks for the advice.

Ahh man, I'm so sorry. Fucking bloody covid.

This was us last Christmas, I think for some reason we had already got a turkey but that was all. We tried online, nothing. In the end I paid a friend (she would have done it for free) £30 to do a main shop for us which saved the day/week.

We were all really sick so it was grim really.

Some friends did randomly drop stuff at our doorstep too which was lovely.

Two people at work tested positive last week so I have been maniacally testing and paranoid at every sniffle.

Honestly, two years of this shit, I'm bored now. That doesn't mean I'm trivialising but I'm angry that our lives really did get fucked by this.

Fuck you covid, fuck you to hell.

I hope you feel better soon, get as much rest as you can and drink plenty. Then drink more - water, not gin!

KloppsTeeth · 19/12/2021 02:06

I hope you get something.
Our local Coop will do over the phone orders for people who are isolating. Also, our milkman does a range of other foods, you could try a veg or meat box service?

Ted27 · 19/12/2021 02:07

Have you looked at Amazon food delivery?

AntiHop · 19/12/2021 02:09

There are lots of apps around that do grocery deliveries. Coop do an online same day delivery.

RavingAnnie · 19/12/2021 02:13

Are you fully vaccinated? Is it Omicron?

If you can I'd get out to the shop now before you catch it and have to isolate.

If that's not an option, is there anyone you can ask to do a shop for you?

TooTiredForThis2 · 19/12/2021 02:13

Thanks for the ideas. I will look into these. We are not in an area that amazon does their food deliveries for but I can try to look for other options. Thank you

cantgetmyheadroundit · 19/12/2021 02:14

Uber Eats and Just Eat both do grocery deliveries round here, I think it's the Co-Op and McColls. You can get a decent amount of food at least.

There may be loads of apps near you that do grocery delivery, but that in no way means there are the same options near the OP.
Alvinne · 19/12/2021 02:16

Sorry to hear this OP must be so hard. NHS volunteer responders nhsvolunteerresponders.org.uk/services or the local council might be able to help or when I was recently self isolating we managed to get a supermarket food deliveries from uber eats and deliveroo when the supermarket was fully booked.

StarCat2020 · 19/12/2021 02:17

Take care of yourself

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/12/2021 02:21

Where are you OP? Do you have to isolate too?

user97533676 · 19/12/2021 02:27

Put an ad up on Airtasker for someome to buy xyz and drop it off. Or local Facebook page. Just Eat. Uber Eats. Deliveroo. Co-op. Click and collect. Iceland. Neighbour. NextDoor.

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/12/2021 02:29

Do you have to isolate? Can you do the shop and get a taxi home?

Are you on the local Facebook page? Could put a shout out there.

Beadebaser · 19/12/2021 02:29

I’m sorry @TooTiredForThis2. Hope he recovers soon.

Ubereats/deliveroo/online food apps are good if they cover your area. Amazon Fresh.
See if any local farm shops/butchers etc do deliveries. Local restaurants. Take away/local places would be very much wanting your custom - more deserving than the big Tesco type stores. There might be some local community groups who can help - Nextdoor/your local church etc.

Mudflaps · 19/12/2021 02:30

Any local sports clubs/teams nearby? In Ireland the GAA clubs were shopping, collecting prescriptions etc for people isolating.
