I'm DONE with Covid, omicron and want to get on with my life - is anyone else with me?

coatilove · 16/12/2021 20:47

Honestly at this point I'm done with it, I'm surprised people are complying so much with mask wearing and everything else - I thought the vaccine was freedom. Turns out I was wrong.

I've had enough - I'm not wearing my mask indoors and hope if there's a lockdown every business keeps its doors open and boycotts the decision.

I'm really surprised people are being so compliant, even if they have natural immunity and have been jagged (I have now had Covid and both jabs)

I can't be selfless anymore and keep getting boosters to protect others and stopping life, constant anxiety, life I feel should be going on now. Enough sacrifices have been made.

Aware I'll get flamed, but at the end of my tether with all of this now.

There are plenty of diseases that kill people, we have to accept the death rate now enough is enough.

If you've been vaccinated then what else do you intend to do? If you haven't then more fool you.

@Genderwitched

If vaccines arent helping relieve pressure on hospitals...then why are we having them?

Possibly the densest thing I have read all week!

It has some competition on this thread
NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 16/12/2021 22:30

I'll tell you what I'm 'done with' ... patiently explaining things to people thicker than mince & trouble makers/shit stirrers.

Auntieobem · 16/12/2021 22:30

Don't folk realise that there is a real risk of 1million people A DAY being infected??? Won't need to worry about prioritising care then, there won't be any staff in work to care for anyone.

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 16/12/2021 22:31

Op I do get you. I really do, I don't think many people are cheering about this sudden dreadful new development!

I've got so many things planned in the next few days and I'm gutted!

Mask wearing doesn't bother me.
Ventilation, well I think we need more anyway over winter.

But.. What's surprised me about your post is the "they said this, they said that".

They... Are a collection of people who are also facing this situation with us, along side us and it's just as strange and new to us as it is to them.
It's not a game where they tell us things for fun to play with us. They are not gods, we are not "their" sport.

More than fool anyone who devoutly listens to anyone else in this way!
We are all responsible for ourselves and I totally get why much younger people than me just want to live and get on with things.

I would if I was twenty years younger with no responsibility.

DismantledKing · 16/12/2021 22:31

Its all very Violet Elizabeth Bott for me.

Well, I get that reference but I won’t see 50 again either. It’s all so very childish, they think that if they hold their breath and stamp their feet then the pandemic will magically vanish.
What an embarrassment they would be to earlier generations, or even those in Global South countries that can’t obtain vaccinations but would dearly love to.
Spoilt First World children.

Thewiseoneincognito · 16/12/2021 22:31

@DismantledKing

It’s the same sad old names over and over again, isn’t it? Having their daily tantrums about Covid and obsessively detailing their wild rebel spirit. Keeps them off the streets I suppose.
Hahahahaha yep. The MN anti restrictions echo chamber, they flock to every thread spouting the same deranged rhetoric and then they have the gaul to label others as hysterical.

Haha I just have visions of them all sat at desks on some bot farm in the depths of god knows where furiously posting about muzzles and how we should just live with it.

SprayedWithDettol · 16/12/2021 22:31

@Thethingswedidanddidntdo

OP I find it offensive that you are complaining about all the 'sacrifices' you are making, and then saying you aren't going to continue. My DH is an ITU doctor. He and his colleagues (right across the NHS) are the ones making sacrifices. And you are directly making it harder for them. Poor you having to wear a mask occasionally. He wears them all day/night not to mention the rest of the PPE. Get over yourself.
Exactly!
Auntieobem · 16/12/2021 22:31

@WiseUpJanetWeiss

"I also agree that hospitals need to stop prioritising Covid."

Exactly how do you envisage this happening? Are you proposing that Covid patients aren't treated?

Only the old ones who were going to die anyway apparently. 🙄😡
Caramellatteplease · 16/12/2021 22:31

If three quarters of the country was ill with flu or a severe at the same time, hospitals and supply chains would struggle. That's with the flu jab and low rate of serious illness

This isnt really about how serious omicron is this time, or whether omicron is likely to send CEV DS to the hospital.

This time its about whether there will enough healthy people to run my sister's cancer treatment, to deliver food so we dont have to go to the store.

Its isnt about your personal risk. It's about enabling society as a whole to work

i don't expect @ElectraBlue or OP will be back to answer that one
XmasSadface · 16/12/2021 22:33

@housemaus
It's a mitigating measure, i.e. better than doing nothing at all
I disagree 🤷‍♀️

Wrongkindofovercoat · 16/12/2021 22:34

I also agree that hospitals need to stop prioritising Covid. How many people who could still have many years of life in front of them do we want to see die of cancer, heart attack and so on so that we can keep someone with Covid who has lived past the average life expectation alive for a few more weeks? Tough choice but at some point we will need to face this

So your answer to the problem is to deny everyone who would normally be admitted to hospital due to covid symptoms, admission or treatment ? Or do you have a list of people you think should be allowed treatment for covid symptoms ? What do you suggest happens to the people denied admission and treatment ?

That ^^

If your car breaks down and the AA can't get there as no staff
Even less ambulances
Food supply breaks down
Carers can't go to vulnerable people they care for
Pharmacies affected and deliveries of medication
Public transport at a halt
Petrol stations closed

I mean just think what you use every day

coatilove · 16/12/2021 22:35

@Wrongkindofovercoat the nhs make these decisions every day. There are many treatments available that the nhs refuse to refund because they're not funded. Should the NHS give everyone treatment for everything? Because currently they don't and never have.

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 16/12/2021 22:36

November, people simply pick up threads of information that they want.
They don't necessarily read around subjects anyway and especially not subjects that annoy or irritate them.
So they won't be rationally looking at a broad base of information and considering it etc.
This is such a fast and fluid moving situation, it's hard to keep up.

ChequerBoard · 16/12/2021 22:36

One thing the pandemic has proven to me is that oh so many people are completely bloody clueless about how the healthcare system works.

All the petulant toddlers stamping their feet and whining the pandemic equivalent of 'are we there yet' need to watch the response Chris Whitty gives to this utterly clueless MP:

And dying from covid is a pretty shit way to die, particularly if you are denied Care.
worriedatthemoment · 16/12/2021 22:37

@riveted1 well I hope your right but there are no guarantees
I can understand why the OP feels like this , I will follow most of the rules but its getting to me now
My son awaiting a covid test again as he had a temp so had to retest but he had covid 60 days ago so could show positive anyway even if this is just a cold as they haven't taken into account other illnessses are around and for the few that need a repeat test. My bf has terminal cancer and i can barely spend time with them as cases are so high and when we meet we do LFT etc but its always in my mind what if we have it and don't know and pass it on etc
I so hope this is the last of it controlling us and it does seem like no end in sight
People say pandemics don't last forever etc , how many pandemics have as had that are documented - spanish flu is the only one I know

Maverickess · 16/12/2021 22:38

I'm done with it too, it's in (or rather on) my face every day I'm at work.
I'm done with getting dressed up like an extra from a nuclear war film to deliver personal care, I'm done with my face itching and a sore throat from wearing a mask for between 8 and 14 hours a day in a warm environment while doing a physical job. I'm sick of dry and cracked hands from the endless handwashing and sanitising. I'm sick of being moaned at by people who don't want to wear a mask, don't want to wear PPE to see their relatives and think somehow, shouting at me will change that. I'm sick of being told to mind my own business when I ask that someone doesn't hug or kiss their loved one because it's safer for them, the other residents and me and the rest of the staff, because apparently me catching covid, or caring for a unit full of covid positive residents, taking it home to my family and also informing loved ones that their family is sick/dying/dead over the phone is none of my business and an acceptable price to pay for a hug and a kiss. I don't really want to be holding the hands of those dying from covid either, done with that.
I'm sick of 3 X covid tests a week (now four).
I'm sick of doing all that for minimum wage.

But what I'm really sick of is people expecting the likes of me to carry on, do as we're told, give and give while others are quite willing to increase the risks intentionally because they don't like it, accuse people like me of 'loving it ' or being too scared to live, or sheep because we don't want the situation to get worse, because we're only just surviving.

It doesn't matter how done we are with covid, clearly it's not done with us yet.

worriedatthemoment · 16/12/2021 22:39

@DrWhoNowww when was bird flu ever a pandemic ? Its not disappeared either its quite high
Not even sure if seine flu was actually a pandemic

Wales have closed nightclubs. what will happen to club owners now? They'll lose their livelihoods now

Wonder when lockdown is coming.
