What are you reasons for not getting the booster?

I've just had my booster. Delighted to see massive queues.

And if a third is needed because vaccine 1 and 2 don't work as well why not tell those unvaccinated or those only with vaccine 1 to skip straight to the 3rd one. Why make people get a 3 if only the third one works.

😂 That's like saying: why eat five portions of fruit and veg daily when we can just eat one and call it number five.

And if a third is needed because vaccine 1 and 2 don't work as well why not tell those unvaccinated or those only with vaccine 1 to skip straight to the 3rd one. Why make people get a 3 if only the third one works.

Well I have to say the initial comment crossed my mind when they said that the vaccine efficacy fur AZ was 0 fir omicron (slightly different fir Pfizer as it still keeps some efficacy)….
I mean if AZ is that bad then people who only have had the booster should be in the same place than those like me who have had AZ+booster???

Except I know it’s more complicated than that and it depends on what you are measuring….
But I think that presenting information in this way (which is what the government does) doesnt help tbh.

Eg they are saying that people who have had Pfizer x2 3 months ag shouod have the booster already implying that receiving the vaccine doens’t protect you for more than 3 months Confused

because none of it actually holds water

derxa · 14/12/2021 18:58

Because the first two vaccines triggered severe psoriasis. Never had this disease before. I'm ill and utterly miserable

MaxNormal · 14/12/2021 19:09

@derxa I remember you from the Brexit chat (you have a memorable job!) and I'm really sorry you've been having health difficulties, I hope things improve for you.

Thanks it's been a bugger. First breast cancer then psoriasis. I'm not an anti vaxxer. I've been very unlucky. Number 1 DS keeps nagging me about this booster but seeing as I mainly live like a hermit I'm not too worried. I'm pretty sure you can't get CV from sheep.

MaxNormal · 14/12/2021 19:37

@derxa I didn't know about the breast cancer. I'm so sorry, what a horrible time.
You're clearly not an anti-vaxxer if you had both your original doses.

Hoping for a better 2022 for you x

Sheep can catch it, although certainly appear to be less susceptible than other animals

Roundeartheratchriatmas · 14/12/2021 20:55

I guess it depends on if the sheep come into contact with other animals/people then ?

Villanelle17 · 14/12/2021 21:22

@Fashionista1995

Because I’m still recovering from the first 2…
Same. Well, the second dose. Was fine after the first. So now I'm terrified of getting a booster and ending up even worse than I am now.
IncessantNameChanger · 14/12/2021 21:41

I'm glad I'm having my booster after Christmas after my bad reaction to my first AZ. Tbh if If I covid again between and then I will cancel my booster. Your not supposed to get it within a certain timeframe and I'm hoping my natural immunity would get me through the rest of winter. I'm convinced from the news we will all be catching it soon

howdiditcometothis666 · 14/12/2021 23:03

@Chachasha

Does it apply to everyone or only those refusing the booster ?

Only those refusing the booster as this isn't a lifestyle choice, it's a refusal of NHS care. The care has been offered in the form of a free, effective vaccine and booster. You shouldn't be able to refuse that and then say actually you'd like that cancer patient's ICU slot.

What even if the cancer patient is a smoker with lung cancer or a sun-worshipper who never used sun cream with skin cancer?

It's a truly ridiculous position to take.

If the Stanford Uni research, linking being fat to serious Covid and long Covid, passes peer review then everyone with your position will need to post a date stamped picture of themselves so we can all assess their right to treatment. If overweight and you don't lose weight you won't be allowed any subsequent Covid treatment.

Chachasha · 15/12/2021 00:10

It's a truly ridiculous position to take.

In one sense, of course it is but in another sense we are driven to various kinds of madness when we have a certain number of beds and the knowledge that our normal triaging system prioritises those who can't breathe today (Covid patients, largely unvaccinated who turned down the opportunity not to be there) over those who will die a horrible death later but not appear 'urgent' enough for first class care until it's too late (missed screening, chemo and mental health care because we couldn't get on top of Covid due to unvaccinated patients filling up the wards and ripping through the one pot of money that we share for healthcare).

It's all down a rabbit hole.

howdiditcometothis666 · 15/12/2021 00:48

@Chachasha There have been excess deaths over the summer of people, with often reversible conditions, dying at home when Covid patients have not been overwhelming hospitals. There was also displacement of deaths from hospital to home before the vaccine came along, 50000 excess deaths at home up to March according to one headline.
So now, with the successful vaccine, less Covid patients are in hospital but the trend of excess deaths at home is still continuing: when it does eventually be properly investigated - I don't think it will be laid at the feet of the un vaccinated.

Personally I'm putting it off. I was fine after the first jab, poorly after the second. Plus it's not been that long ago since I had my second jab so surly that should be as effective 🤔.

I don't trust a word any off them say any more after news this past week.

TeloMere · 15/12/2021 06:50

I've got no idea what to do about the booster.
Had a reaction after the second AZ jab and now 8 months later after 2 courses of steroids I'm slowly getting better but still get joint and muscle pains which limit activities and stop me driving.
I've seen a rheumatologist who said he can't advise on what to do about the booster as there's not enough information yet, so it's up to me.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 15/12/2021 09:01

@LostForIdeas disheartening news about AZ, isn't it. Sad as to the booster question, I found this BBC article helpful: www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-59639973

Someone else with the AZ joint pains reaction! Oh it's horrid isn't it

Viruses generally mutate to become more transmissible but less deadly

Not exactly true per se but true in a roundabout way.

Viruses mutate both to be more deadly and less deadly. However those that are more deadly tend to kill or incapacitate their hosts before they have the chance to spread the virus. This gives the impression that viruses only mutate to become milder.

NannaMcPhoo · 15/12/2021 10:07

Will not be getting the booster. I have not had the first and second vaccine, nor have I ever had a test in the two years this circus has been going on!!. in addition, I have never once worn a mask when out shopping

I can understand and respect the choice of not getting a vaccine. However deciding not to wear a mask only makes you a selfish prat.
