What are you reasons for not getting the booster?

I thought 2 doses of any vaccine still gave good protection against severe illness and death. Has this changed?

Cameleongirl · 12/12/2021 20:23

I'm double-jabbed with Moderna and could get my third Moderna now, but I thought I'd wait until we know more about its effectiveness against new variants. The last I heard, Moderna will have this data sometime this month- I'm only just eligible for my booster so I'm waiting a few more weeks in case it needs to be tweaked.

It could be the wrong approach, but that's what I'm planning atm.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/12/2021 20:24

I'll do anything I can to try and avoid another lockdown. Even if we only make some difference, collectively that adds up and the less likely it is that they will need to close everything down again.

In a way, I feel like we need to do this for the kids.

BackBackBack · 12/12/2021 20:25

@Tabbacus I was googling when looking at whether to get the booster or not, and found the info on the British Heart Foundation site. I had my booster on Thurs. Felt horrid the next day but fine on Saturday.

megustalacerveza · 12/12/2021 20:25

@girlabouthome

They need to stop calling it a vaccine. It's not.

It's a drug.

Partially effective and one that we will have to continue to take.

Not anti vac by any stretch, I've had all mine, but there needs to be more transparency about its efficacy and frequency requirements.

All vaccines are drugs.

Plenty of vaccines need several rounds of jabbing.

There can't be more transparency about frequency requirements or efficacy because nobody knows what they are. It's a developing situation that scientists are responding to.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 12/12/2021 20:26

Currently recovering from Covid (double jabbed) and yes, after this I will take anything they can give me. Anything. I know I can't persuade anybody who has made their mind up already, and I know everyone reacts differently, but I can confirm it's not one to gamble with. Horrible virus.

Not enough data yet but why the heck would you take that risk?

Probably not. I was really ill after the first two shots, and I don’t want to go through that again.

megustalacerveza · 12/12/2021 20:29

@Mistyplanet

Im not getting it as ive not had any of the covid vaccines so far. Every drug/vaccine has a side effect. I've got a high chance of surviving covid so I prefer to take the natural route and as vaccinated people still become infected with and transmit covid i will not be made to feel like im endangering others. The fact 2 jabs dont work much at all against omricon has confirmed I've done the right thing. I think I had covid at the beginning of the pandemic and I survived it and was still able to function so I'll accept the risks of that than the risks of vaccines especially multiple ones. The vaccines have a nunber of ingredients in which we don't know the effects of. Or things like aborted foetal cells- i dont know if covid vaccine has this but others do.
My friend caught covid in March 2020.

Over 18 months later he still can't walk upstairs unaided, is unable to work, and has only left his home a handful of times. Previously fit and healthy and only in his mid thirties.

You do realise that if you end up in hospital, you'll be pumped full of all sorts of drugs? You won't know what's in those. Would you turn them down?

@Mistyplanet where have you got info about aborted feotal cells from?!?!
I've had mine. I'm not overly keen on so many vaccines and had flu one too, but have two young kids. I need to stay alive and they are likely to bring it home at some point.

portandchocolate · 12/12/2021 20:30

I really hope none of you or your loved ones crash their cars, need urgent medical care or have an MI.

Because the chances of them having treatment available to them decreases as the hospital fill.

There are posters on here waiting for cancer diagnosis, treatment. Have a heart for heavens sake.

Exactly what I was going to say.

Based on the evidence coming out of South Africa, we should all be holding Omicron parties so that we're exposed to a less dangerous strain that boosts our immunity.

explodingeyes · 12/12/2021 20:31

@megustalacerveza makes a good point @Mistyplanet
Do you always refuse drugs for illnesses? The means to keel Covid patients alive are pretty grim

Kshhuxnxk · 12/12/2021 20:33

Answering in advance of when they announce yet another booster is required because the current two vaccinations and booster won't work on the new variant - because it will happen. No, I won't be getting any more. I was terrifyingly ill after my booster so much so I needed medical assistance.

LostForIdeas · 12/12/2021 20:33

Where are you getting your information from ? Because what you are writing is bollocks

It seems I need to clarify my POV.

Atm 2 x AZ seems to give no protection at all for omicron (as in symptomatic disease). That’s what I mean when I say we are told they are offering no protection at all (and that’s why we need a booster btw)

I am not aware on any study at all showing whether 2x AZ or AZ plus booster protects from hospitalisations and/or deaths. It might well be that the 2 x AZ are still enough to protect from hospitalisations seen that omicron is milder disease in the first place.

So atm what we know is

  • no protection from symptomatic disease with AZ (a bit better with Pfizer)
  • some protection from symptomatic disease with a booster

What we don’t know is

  • how mild omicron is or isn’t
  • what protection AZ and Pfizer gives for hospitalisations and deaths
  • if getting a booster is worth it for hospitalisation and death.

One thing that is weighing in the balance for me long covid but again I haven’t seen many studies aground vaccines and long covid. Assuming nit being symptomatic would protect you, getting the vaccine would be worth doing for that.

Sorry but the responsibility should NOT be put on the general public for that. I'm not going to feel guilty that a government I have never voted for have spent years chronically underfunding the NHS.
baroqueandblue · 12/12/2021 20:34

@Fashionista1995

Because I’m still recovering from the first 2…
This, absolutely this, and the NHS isn't doing anything for us. It's fucking scary
Meltinthemiddle · 12/12/2021 20:35

I'm not keen on a booster and want to wait for more information on its effectiveness as I have had the Moderna.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/12/2021 20:36

@Riskyrice

I will get it but I'm not massively thrilled about it to be honest, just fed up.

Is this going to be life now? Vaccines ever few months - could there be long term health impacts from constant vaccines?

Living longer is a side effect.

Who do you think you are punishing? The Gov? Or your fellow humans.

Your attitude is awful.

Pinklaptopz · 12/12/2021 20:36

I had mine booked today, but the queue was two and a half hours long so gave up (I was with dc4 and dc3mo). I will try again this week.

onewayandday · 12/12/2021 20:38

Me, I won't be getting the booster. I've had both my Pfizer jabs and 2 weeks later found out I had myocarditis after crushing chest pains days after the jab. Coincidence or not, I don't know.
