Mine is supposed to be on the 17th.. a big gathering with all staff in a hall, food and drinks and dancing and partying. Also casino tables and no doubt a lot of people sharing the same air closely with no masks and lots of contact, hugging etc.

Is this right? I feel uneasy about it and surprised it's not been cancelled yet..

Is yours going ahead/been cancelled?

Thanks.

No. Not going ahead. I don’t think one was even planned this year.

elQuintoConyo · 06/12/2021 15:38

Drinks and tapas at 8, we'll probably be home by 10'30. There are 5 of us + boss. I'm quite looking forward to it, and I don't think it'll be cancelled.

Chemenger · 06/12/2021 15:42

Ours is outside with food and music. It's going ahead.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 06/12/2021 15:45

We were meant to be going for a meal next week - would mean 2 hours of train travel for me so was already wavering but group consensus today is would rather postpone til after Christmas so nobody has to risk isolating in Christmas week.

MelonTits · 06/12/2021 15:46

We just had the chat about cancelling ours. I suspect some individuals will decline to attend even if the event goes ahead.

A bit gutted if we don’t get to celebrate as I had a newborn in 2018, pregnant in 2019, and 2020 didn’t happen, but what will be will be.

SandPerson · 06/12/2021 15:47

If your company go ahead OP
They are mad!

BarbedButterfly · 06/12/2021 15:49

No, cancelled and we have been requested not to socialise in large groups outside of work. I do work in the NHS though so a Christmas party could result in chaos if many had to isolate.

SpeckledlyHen · 06/12/2021 15:50

Mine has been cancelled today. Was supposed to be on the 9th in London in a restaurant but (am I am not sure whether I am relieved or not) has been cancelled.

wineislife21 · 06/12/2021 15:52

@SandPerson agreed!

I would be relieved if they cancelled it! (Partly because I am fairly new and would feel uncomfortable as haven't yet met that one friend to latch onto), but also due to covid and the way the world is at the moment!
I just hope my employers don't feel like they'd be upsetting everyone because f**l the Xmas do, at least we can see family this year!!

Yes, 120+, can’t wait

almahart · 06/12/2021 15:53

No. We were going to go to a restaurant (about 20 of us) but most people were worried about having to self isolate before Christmas or Covid risks more generally

dumdedumpop · 06/12/2021 15:56

I'm also NHS, and work in two different teams. One is going ahead on Friday, in a function room, a fair amount of people with music and dancing. The other one should be next week but the actual venue / activities hadn't been decided, most likely a meal somewhere. I think the one next week may get cancelled. We certainly have to do LF tests beforehand if it does go ahead. I'll probably go along to both if I can. I don't want to catch covid but I'm more comfortable in crowds now I'm double jabbed and boosted.

toomuchlaundry · 06/12/2021 15:56

Yes, DH's is. Not feeling comfortable having elderly relatives for Christmas Lunch now. Not sure what to do. Think we will just need to test regularly before Christmas Day. DH has 2 to go to as well, just to add to the potential chance of getting it or being pinged!

valnevavaxx · 06/12/2021 16:00

Ours is going ahead. Those who aren't comfortable don't have to attend.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 06/12/2021 16:06

No, the main event cancelled but some teams are doing their own thing which would only be small groups of 6 or so who work together anyway.

wineislife21 · 06/12/2021 16:08

I work for a sports club and as you can imagine with a local following and press coverage, it wouldn't look good if there was an outbreak at the office Xmas party..
I think they will cancel due to this, and the fact that a good few people won't attend anyway.. I'd prefer a spring/summer do of some sort to make up for it!

The 17th is way to close to Christmas
If you did catch Covid or even a winter bug, bang goes spending Christmas with your family

WhenSepEnds · 06/12/2021 16:09

There are only ten of us but one has severe asthma and a heart condition and 2 are over 60 so I decided to suggest we cancel just to be on the safe side and everyone agreed. Hopefully we can have something in the new year

gogohm · 06/12/2021 16:11

Yes but it's just lunch

gogohm · 06/12/2021 16:11

And we are all triple vaccinated, I was the last to get mine last week

runwithme · 06/12/2021 16:15

Ours is a lunch, and no, not cancelled. If it was a massive evening affair with drinks flowing then I wouldn't be attending

AlecTrevelyan006 · 06/12/2021 16:16

@SandPerson

If your company go ahead OP They are mad!
Anyone cancelling is mad
PARunnerGirl · 06/12/2021 16:17

Ours was last Friday. ~25 of us in a private room in a restaurant. It felt fairly safe as we were just sat at our places for the whole night.

Littlemiss74 · 06/12/2021 16:18

Ours sounds very similar to yours OP & I am getting more anxious by the day. There hasn’t even been a hint that it might be cancelled. I am CEV and an anxious person but don’t think the
management will understand if I say I don’t want to go as they seem to think as long as you’re jabbed & do a lateral flow you’ll be fine. I know from experience that lateral flow tests are not always accurate so that doesn’t reassure me.
I don’t want to have a black mark against my name for not going so really don’t know what to do. It’s making me feel a bit stressed tbh.

rumrunner123 · 06/12/2021 16:19

We have just cancelled ours on 17th but was only going to have a get together in the office, didn't really want to risk it with rising cases in our area.

My business partners DH has party on 18th though at huge venue in massive city. They are currently arguing as she doesn't want to go but he thinks they should unless his work cancels.
