Vaccinations to made a legal requirement in Austria from Feb 2022

Days after Austria imposed a lockdown on the unvaccinated, it has announced a full national Covid-19 lockdown starting on Monday.

Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg said it would last at least 10 days and there would be a legal requirement to get vaccinated from 1 February 2022.

Jesus. I'm shocked by that. I'm not an antivaxxer but I still very concerned that a country could make any vaccine a legal requirement! I feel it's a step too far.

If people weren't such idiots declining the perfectly safe vaccine in the first place, they wouldn't be in this situation.

Also bodily autonomy goes out the window if you're posing a threat to yourself and/or others. Collectively, large numbers of people refusing to get vaxxed does pose a massive threat to public health.

Where's your line? Interested to know

Yeah, I'm vaccinated for almost everything and I'm still not down with this level of mandate.

If they'll do this, what's next.

Nerdygirl · 19/11/2021 10:32

Anyone who thinks this is a good idea is a disgrace In my opinion. Don’t start bleating about your loss of control, dictatorship governments when it happens here ! Have you lost your mind? Where is the sense of perspective ? 82 plus is still the average age , the majority won’t be that I’ll yet we segregate/discriminate for this

The vaccine doesn’t stop your spreading, I am double vaxxed with my second dose 2 months ago and just come back from one I of the lost vaccinated countries in the world with covid!!

MaxNormal · 19/11/2021 10:34

Fines leading up to imprisonment apparently.

The issue is thats it not perfectly safe though. I live over the border in Switzerland. After my second modernam I had the usual reaction, then a week of extreme tiredness and then two weeks of massive headaches. My neighbor is vaccine injured - she now has an exemption from taking the second shot and is at the hospital at least twice a week, on steroids and they are unable to stabilizer her enough to take her off them - been going on since the Spring. My other friend had three weeks of terrible shingles - she showed me the scratches on her arms from the unbearable itching. Her doctor told her it’s a reaction from the second jab. Many people here are getting shingles are their second vaccine So there is a risk from Covid and a risk From the vaccine. People should be able to choose their risk. Without fear or favor.

Appalling.

How anyone can defend this is beyond me.

littlelordfuckleroy · 19/11/2021 10:37

So they go to prison, and come out presumably still unvaccinated. What happens then?

Is it wise sending loads of unvaccinated people into a confined space such as prison? Where's the duty of care for the rest of the prison population?

So many issues with this

I'm pro vaccine, but this is feeling like something out of 1984.

CrunchyCarrot · 19/11/2021 10:38

Terrifying. I would be in a puddle on the floor if this comes to the UK.

GoldenOmber · 19/11/2021 10:39

Covid is not ‘infinitely more infectious’ than measles, what the fuck.

I do think people should get vaccinated against covid. But they shouldn’t be legally forced to. This is a bad idea in and of itself, and will also set a bad precedent by undermining confidence in vaccines and public health going forward. Prepare for big measles waves in a few years.

SevastopolKG348 · 19/11/2021 10:39

Coming our way soon?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 19/11/2021 10:40

I'm pro vax. Happily had mine. Would love my Yr6 child to have it before starting secondary even though she's had Covid and was completely asymptomatic.

Forced vaccination? Hell no. I may not agree with some peoples reasons for not having it, but I'll fight for their right to make uninformed decisions.

MummyPop00 · 19/11/2021 10:40

What’s the stats on vaxxed/unvaxxed hospitalisations in Austria at the moment?

Good questions. It really seems like they haven't thought this through.
MaxNormal · 19/11/2021 10:41

I'm waiting for "no-one's forcing you, you're choosing fines and imprisonment, choices have consequences".

TomelettewithGreggs · 19/11/2021 10:43

"There is a risk from covid and a risk from the vaccine."

Over 5 million people have died from Covid worldwide. 9 people have died from the vaccine in the UK. Not the same risk. blog.ons.gov.uk/2021/10/04/how-many-people-have-died-as-a-result-of-a-covid-19-vaccine/

They'll probably force it on them in prison.

I'm pro vax. But this is deeply shocking.

Timescale · 19/11/2021 10:44

What if the mandatory vaccination results in death?

Cattitudes · 19/11/2021 10:45

Yes but measles has a 1 in 5 hospitalisation rate and people are generally symptomatic and vaccine substantially reduces onward transmission. The vaccine has a 93-95% effectiveness and protection lasts for years. The two are really not comparable.

We have all had the maximum vaccines for our ages but this is a step too far.

Cattitudes · 19/11/2021 10:46

@workshy44

GOOD Before covid the most infectious disease known to man was measles and you needed 1 in 18 not to be vaccinated for herd immunity. Covid is infinitely more infectious and unless people get vaccinated it will NEVER end. There are some people who can't be vaccinated for medical reasons so they take up the tiny% who don't require vaccination for herd immunity it is beyond selfish. These are unprecedented times- personal freedoms go out the window as far as I am concerned.
My response was in reply to this post.
ZeroFsKarma · 19/11/2021 10:46

I think this is appalling & it's annoying that people can't state how they feel about things like this without having to insist they're not an anti-vaxxer! There's nothing wrong with being concerned about the covid vaccines, especially after what happened with the Swine Flu rushed vaccines. It doesn't make you anti-vaxx to be worried or have questions! Given how heavily they are being pushed it's unlikely we will find out about any adverse effects & the frequency of them anytime soon.
Anyway, there is no way I am comfortable with any government dictating what people do with their bodies. This is nothing to do with health either imo.

Well thank the lord you are not in charge then. For the record I am fully vaccinated but the only person who should have the right to make that decision is me. You most certainly don’t get to dictate what people should put into their OWN bodies. Feel free to move to Austria if you like but I’m fairly sure this won’t be happening here. It’s also bloody rich calling people beyond selfish just for wanting bodily autonomy because YOU are worried personally about Covid even though your risks of death or serious illness is very low. Unfortunately people have always died prematurely through various diseases, that doesn’t mean we should expect everyone else to restrict their lives in order to make some people feel better. That is selfishness. Covid is here to stay and we need to live with it in the same way as severe strains of flu.

Theyd have to build new prisons for the unvaccinated. Camps. Re-education camps, no doubt. They couldn't just lump them with normal prisoners.

Kind of makes me think of that "leaked" Canadian document ages ago.

It said that those who are unvaccinated would be forced into camps and forced to surrender all of their assets, or they could take the shot.b
