Vaccinations to made a legal requirement in Austria from Feb 2022

Days after Austria imposed a lockdown on the unvaccinated, it has announced a full national Covid-19 lockdown starting on Monday.

Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg said it would last at least 10 days and there would be a legal requirement to get vaccinated from 1 February 2022.

Jesus. I'm shocked by that. I'm not an antivaxxer but I still very concerned that a country could make any vaccine a legal requirement! I feel it's a step too far.

There are countries you can't visit unless you have had certain vaccines so I don't find it that shocking.

You don't?

Not being able to live in your own country/face penalisations for not being vaccinated is very different to not being able to visit/holiday in a certain country.

That is one hell of a Rubicon they are crossing. Even France didn't get that one through.

Anyone who supports this... its one hell of a precedent to hand over bodily autonomy to the state.

Coronavirus isn’t yellow fever Hmm

I agree OP, it’s shocking.

MaxNormal · 19/11/2021 10:04

ancientgran a tiny handful of African counties require a yellow fever vacvination certificate for entry but that's about it. And you can easily get an exemption if necessary. And most pertinently they don't require it of their citizens.

littlelordfuckleroy · 19/11/2021 10:04

Thank god for the two responses that agree with me. I was starting to wonder.

It is a massive step for Austria. Genuinely shocking.

in some areas the vaccine rate is astonishingly low.

'lentilweavering' is big in some areas, especially 'oberösterreich'.

they tried a lot to get people vaccinated voluntarily.

MaxNormal · 19/11/2021 10:06

littlelordfuckleroy I'm sure plenty will defend it.
Apparently when it comes to covid nothing is too extreme that it cannot be justified.

It's starting to feel like the Medieval church.

MaxNormal · 19/11/2021 10:08

So will it be gunpoint or just fine them into oblivion?

I understand why. I still don't agree with it.

Interested to know what will happen! Do they get exiled?

That's horrifying. Shock

IDespairOfTheHumanRace · 19/11/2021 10:18

Welcome to the dystopian Brave New World - if a certain percentage of the population are not willing to be lemmings and voluntarily surrender themselves to the spin, propaganda and compliance with Government control, it will be forced upon them. Christ, what a World we now inhabit.

seb342 · 19/11/2021 10:19

Remember when people were called crazy for saying this would happen? Once one country gets away with this it won't be long before others follow. Very disturbing that this is happening for a virus that most will recover from, it's not Ebola where 1 in 2 people wouldn't survive.

workshy44 · 19/11/2021 10:20

GOOD
Before covid the most infectious disease known to man was measles and you needed 1 in 18 not to be vaccinated for herd immunity. Covid is infinitely more infectious and unless people get vaccinated it will NEVER end. There are some people who can't be vaccinated for medical reasons so they take up the tiny% who don't require vaccination for herd immunity
it is beyond selfish. These are unprecedented times- personal freedoms go out the window as far as I am concerned.

I agree.

it's a massive step.

it's abit like telling your child to behave or...

and now they have to follow through.

Phyllobates · 19/11/2021 10:20

Truly appalling.

I shall not bow down to political science.

The Medieval church? What are you on about - they didn't require anyone to undertake any medical procedures.

On the other hand, this is starting to feel like something much more recent. The Soviet Union. Contemporary China. Etc. etc.

How was that kool-aid?
Aposterhasnoname · 19/11/2021 10:28

Even I’m shocked at this, and I support vaccine passports in certain circumstances.

MaxNormal · 19/11/2021 10:29

All-pwerful and no criticism or deviation from the dogma allowed.
But yes not having to take a medical procedure probably puts them ahead Grin
