This is the DATA thread.

Our preference is for factual, data driven and analytical contributions.

Please try to keep discussion focused on these.

The links below cover a range of data sources. Ideas for additions or deletions always welcome. PHE probably should be referenced at UKHSA.

Yay! boys is back and we have proper data!

JanglyBeads · 02/11/2021 20:06

That’s an interesting question fred. But surely still worth isolating asymptomatic (of which there’ll be a higher proportion in children)?

wintertravel1980 · 02/11/2021 20:38

LFTs are meant to pick up cases with the highest viral load. It is likely (but not 100% confirmed) that individuals who test positive on LFTs are also more likely to be infectious.

With the wild type Covid, 70% of people have never infected anyone else (hypothetically - due to lower viral load). I have not seen the distribution for Delta but it is likely that the super spreading dynamic still applies. If it is the case and we do not have to worry about low viral load/LFT negative individuals, the case for rapid tests in high risk settings is in fact quite compelling.

sirfredfredgeorge · 02/11/2021 20:47

I did wonder about the "we're only isolating kids with higher loads" - but then the conclusion from that would be returning to school as soon as the test went negative (minimises harm) ?

And of course more importantly I think, only a proportion of kids are testing, so there would be plenty of the asymptomatic but spreaders still in school, and given the implied ratio from those ONS stats, I wonder if it's worth anyone - there will still be plenty of cases who could be infectious.

boys3 · 02/11/2021 20:59

only at the overall England level, movement in the seven day rate by age band through October - so starting 7th October for the first seven day rate, and up to 30th October using a three day reporting lag.

Four age bands per graph (just the three on the final one).

10-14s clearly the stand out.

After the graphs conditionally formatted tables, one overall and one with each age band individually done.

It does stand out as an age range

I wonder is that entirely half term or other

boys3 · 02/11/2021 21:07

finally individual age band formatted, darkest shades showing where the rate for each band has peaked in the period shown.
