This is the DATA thread.

Our preference is for factual, data driven and analytical contributions.

Please try to keep discussion focused on these.

I was politely pointing out that you numbers were incorrect. I'm sure you're perfectly capable of looking for data

I quoted Waterford which was the almost 1500 rate and the most vaccinated region (U have since found data which shows the actual most up to date rate is 1672, apologies if it was clear that the rate was relevant to the quotation and not about the average for the whole of Ireland, and no I cannot find a detail breakdown on the age groups involved or the testing rates etc. If that 1672/100,000 is all in unvaccinated under 12's that's quite different to it all being in the over 12's where the data shows 99.7% vaccinated. Of course it's also possible that Ireland has poor vaccination data in the opposite way to the NIMS problem here and the reality is the vaccinated population is considerably less.

I cannot find age breakdown by county level, but the majority of cases across the whole of Ireland are in over 12's, but I'd like to know if that's the same in Waterford.

sirfredfredgeorge · 01/11/2021 19:45

btw, much Ireland data here:
covid19ireland-geohive.hub.arcgis.com/

but it doesn't seem to be linkable etc.

borntobequiet · 01/11/2021 19:50

I wondered if the “Bond effect” was at play in Ireland and was rather surprised at the popularity of 007 there. Dublin cinemagoers seem enthusiastic. Interest in Waterford too.

Here are some graphs by age for the whole of Ireland. I haven't found a regional breakdown. It appears to be rising the steepest in the unvaccinated 5-12 year olds.

You're blaming bond for Irish covid levels? 😂

😅 Could well be attracting younger audiences there too!

Just riffing on a theme on the thread
MissPeregrine · 01/11/2021 20:26

DS school returns tomorrow and LTF will resume.

Numbers in our area were high before half term so will be interesting to watch the case numbers over the next few weeks.

sirfredfredgeorge · 01/11/2021 21:32

It appears to be rising the steepest in the unvaccinated 5-12 year olds

Might be steepest, but ~3000 in 0-12 and ~15000 over 12 still means the majority are coming in the over 12's.

lonelyplanet · 01/11/2021 22:20

But you need to look at the rates per 100,000. They are much higher than in the rates of all other age groups. Clearly vaccinations are working well.

sirfredfredgeorge · 02/11/2021 07:27

They are much higher than in the rates of all other age groups

Where did you find the age break down by local authority?

Late again...

bluetuesdayy · 02/11/2021 16:27

@pussycatlickinglollyices bbc haven't even updated their dashboard since Sunday.

Is this their way of hinting it's not BIG news anymore?!

containsnuts · 02/11/2021 16:40

Data issues in Scotland again. I wonder what the problem is?

Bizawit · 02/11/2021 16:52

Wow todays case numbers look great 🤩 and that is with a bit of a back to school testing bump.
Death and hospitalisations really depression though 😨. Hoping those start levelling off soon..

pussycatlickinglollyices · 02/11/2021 16:57

bluetuesdayy possibly...I've given up on watching a programme called "the news" as it isn't, really and the weather forecast is pretty much always wrong, too
containsnuts they couldn't give one either.

@boys3 not wishing to beg or anything, but do you have some nice colourful accurate graphs at all...pleeeeease? 🤞

wintertravel1980 · 02/11/2021 17:44

Re deaths - numbers reported yesterday didn’t include England so the number for today is higher than it would have been otherwise.

Piggywaspushed · 02/11/2021 18:04

School attendance figures out again:

*The proportion of children absent from school for Covid-related reasons in England rose in the week before half-term, UK government figures show.

The Department for Education estimates 3.2% of all pupils – about 248,000 children – did not attend class for Covid-related reasons on 21 October, up from 2.6% (approximately 209,000 children) on 14 October.

Among pupils absent, the main reason for absence was a confirmed case of coronavirus, with around 127,000 pupils off for this reason, compared to around 111,000 a week before.

Overall, some 88.2% of students were in class on 21 October, which is down from 90% on 14 October*

Be interesting to see the next lot of data.

Related note : 1 in 50 teachers were absent before half term with confirmed or suspected covid cases.. This is a lot more than normal and really hard for many schools to maintain alongside normal absences and the additional load of schools being 'back to normal' so staff out on conferences, course, trips etc.

lovescats3 · 02/11/2021 18:29

Yes have noticed BBC not updating figures since Sunday

Bizawit · 02/11/2021 18:46

Ah that’s good to know
JennyofLancashire · 02/11/2021 19:01

The rolling 7 day average for deaths is 163 today though, that is still rising at the moment.

sirfredfredgeorge · 02/11/2021 19:13

The Department for Education estimates 3.2% of all pupils – about 248,000 children – did not attend class for Covid-related reasons on 21 October, up from 2.6% (approximately 209,000 children) on 14 October

ONS for 22nd October was 4.1% for 2- YR6 and 9.1% for 7-11 So does that suggest around a 1/3rd of school cases result in time off? Is it worth penalising asymptomatic when detection is that low? (or is there something off in the ONS survey and it's way overstating?)

boys3 · 02/11/2021 19:33

England hospital admissions seven day average comparing 2020 with 2021 overall, and then one just starting from 1st Aug to end Dec.

Hospitalisations and deaths thereafter

Plus English regions (NHS for the hospital metrics) for all three measures.

All using the full year comparison and then that from beginning August.

Deaths, by date of death, and within 28 days of a positive test. Five day lag applied for the death figures
