According to another thread on here anyway.

Has anyone else heard this?

On the other thread it sounds as if it will be in 2 weeks time.

Good

MitheringMytryl · 02/10/2021 10:09

I certainly hope it's true.

I'm in Australia and we've opened our borders to vaccinated people.

Kosmoceratops · 02/10/2021 10:10

It is the norm in most EU countries.

KingsleyShacklebolt · 02/10/2021 10:11

We have it in Scotland. Well, we're supposed to have it, but as per usual it's been an utter fuck up of a rollout with people being unable to download the app, unable to register for the app, app telling you that you don't exist, app not being to cope with people who had their first jab in England and second in Scotland.

Huge criticisms from the hospitality sector over the time taken to check everyone's QR codes. Concerns about what happens to people who don't have internet access or a smartphone. People who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons are excluded.

The whole thing is a rubbish idea and I would imagine that seeing the fiasco of the planning and implementation here, the westminster government should be even more reluctant to go down that road.

TinaYouFatLard · 02/10/2021 10:13

It’s revolting. I’m appalled at anyone who supports this.

Exactly. Why not everywhere as far as I'm concerned.
JoanOgden · 02/10/2021 10:13

I think this is a misunderstanding - what is going ahead is a policy that allows people who can't be vaccinated for medical reasons to get access to the Covid Pass for international travel and the (fairly limited) occasions when venues want proof of vaccination.

I could be appalled at the objectors, if I thought them worth my time.

I'd support those who can't be vaccinated having access to an exemption. It's the wilfully unvaccinated I have no time for.

Yup. The links talk about the situations where a COVID pass is currently needed:

Why you may need to show your COVID status
The NHS COVID Pass lets individuals share their COVID-19 vaccination records or test results in a secure way.

You may need to demonstrate your COVID status to:

work or volunteer in a care home regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) from 11 November 2021
be exempt from self-isolating for 10 days if you are a close contact of somebody with a confirmed case of COVID-19
enter venues and events in England that require the NHS COVID Pass as a condition of entry

This isn't about a the wider use pass which the gov have currently submitted a call for evidence for.

ilovesooty · 02/10/2021 10:20

I think if there is any exemption it should be an either/or.

I don't see why people should be allowed to to claim exemption from both vaccination and testing.

Penfield · 02/10/2021 10:23

This is just how I feel.

There was a time that I thought we were all being dragged into the same dark tunnel. It’s not that way though. They can lead the way. I’ll stay behind. Happily.

I don't think anyone should have to be vaccinated (bar for certain patient facing roles as we do for other vaccines), but I agree the opposition to testing as an alternative is frustrating and depressing.
AlexaShutUp · 02/10/2021 10:26

That's good news. I hope you're right

orangejuicer · 02/10/2021 10:26

We already have it in Wales.

For me the benefit of trying to manage the ongoing health threat outweighs any issues I have at the moment about restricting what I can do. That might change but for me it's worth it. I'm fully vaccinated btw.

Justrealised · 02/10/2021 10:32

Some people can’t be tested or would need to be sedated in order to be tested. Eg people with severe learning disabilities or severe autism. For others it maybe that it is too invasive or they don’t have the time to wait for the results (palliative care).

Some people do genuinely have reasons for both not having the vaccine and are medically exempt and not testing.

Yup, and those people have medical exemption.

The number of people who don't want to be vaccinated for a non-medical reason, and simultaneously can't do tests for a genuine reason is vanishingly small.

Not sure what you mean by "don't have time to wait for the results" though. This isn't testing that requires you to isolate. Most people in a palliative care environment are having regular tests as an COVID outbreak would be disastrous

frozendaisy · 02/10/2021 10:46

Unvaccinated by choice are a diminishingly small percentage of the population.

Not worth any headspace. If they want to throw their toys out the pram about vaccination passports then so what?

Means travel and crowded events can go ahead as covid-safe as possible for the majority and unvaccinated for medical reasons, which is a far greater percentage.

Exactly. The wilfully unvaccinated can simply decide whether they want to put up with the restrictions involved. There aren't many in real life. They just seem to be vocal on social media platforms including Mumsnet.
GoldenOmber · 02/10/2021 10:51

But it’s not just ‘the unvaccinated’ who might have an issue with covid passports for domestic things. I think it’s a bad policy for other reasons, not because it would stop me personally doing things.

Plus as a pp said, they’re proving a fair cock-up at rollout here in Scotland.

frozendaisy · 02/10/2021 10:53

Government policy is always a numbers game. It can't be bespoke for each individual.

This is just another numbers policy.

Unvaccinated by choice, "suck it up buttercup"

And we can all just get on with things.

ilovesooty · 02/10/2021 10:54

I don't care what issues people might have with it quite frankly. It happens as the norm in other countries (and I'm not referring to North Korea before the screeching starts) and I see no reason for it not to be happening here.

middleager · 02/10/2021 10:55

My son can't have the vaccine in school next week as he's just had Covid.
If vaccinators don't come back then he's too young to just get the vaccine.
He will be stuck. What about those situations?

GoldenOmber · 02/10/2021 10:57

Ah well, as long as you think it sounds good and ‘don’t really care’ about any issues there might be with it that you haven’t thought through, that’s all that should matter then.
