Has anyone else never had to isolate?

Family of 4 here - never had to isolate or take a test due to symptoms ourselves. It seems that this is very unusual, particularly as we live in one of the persistently worst hit towns/areas in the country.

Admittedly, both me and DH have predominantly worked from home but we have attended our workplaces aswell over the last 16 months and not been particularly careful in terms of social distancing etc when in work (my work brings me into contact with people who are key frontline workers too). We have been for days and meals out occasionally - both as a family and with friends. We have gone to the supermarket at least once a week since the pandemic started. 2 DC at high school aswell.

So it does seem we have been incredibly lucky to never been caught with isolations/potential symptoms.

Is this more common than I think?

We haven't. I WFH, my husband goes into the office/warehouse four days a week though and has done since last September.

We have a one year old who isn't in nursery but does get looked after by grandparents - neither set of grandparents has had to isolate either. DH and I and all grandparents are double vaccinated now.

We've followed all the rules and still wear masks, but since it's been allowed we've been out and about a bit for days out, meals out, friends' houses/playdates, baby groups etc. We go to the park pretty much daily. We go to the shops now as much as we did before the pandemic.

We live in a large city with high rates of Covid at the moment. I'm quite surprised we haven't had it to be honest.

PumpkinKlNG · 22/08/2021 00:55

Lucky you, I’ve had to isolate 8 times 😑

SpringRainbow · 22/08/2021 00:59

I know quite a few people who have never tested and/ or never isolated.

For me, the threat of having to test/ isolate has been worse than actually testing/ isolating.

Saladcreamormayo · 22/08/2021 01:00

I haven't and neither has my dp who has worked full time right throughout covid. Neither of us has ever done a covid test as never needed to, we live in a big city in the UK too.

DramaAlpaca · 22/08/2021 01:01

None of us in our house have.

xyzandabc · 22/08/2021 01:03

2 adults, 3 school age children here. Only 1 child had to isolate for 4 days once. That's it between all of us, which I think is pretty lucky. I work in a school so 2 X DC and I do twice weekly testing.

crappytimes · 22/08/2021 01:04

Both DC have had to isolate a couple of times but this is my 1st time. I'm still wfh but DH caught covid 2 weeks ago so I'm isolating as well. DS has also caught it 1 week ago but so far me and DD ok. Just 4 more days of isolating. With it being school hols it feels particularly shit for DC . I'd never tested before this experience either. So desperate for a walk outside.

AlexaShutUp · 22/08/2021 01:04

We haven't. Never tested either, except for the lateral flow ones which we did because dd was in school.

WingingItSince1973 · 22/08/2021 01:21

Only once when I had covid in Jan. Know lots of people who have had covid but fortunately not near them at the time

SMBH · 22/08/2021 01:29

No isolation due to contact with someone positive, but quite a few tests (and so isolating for the 24-48 hours it takes to get the result). This is with two nursery-attending children though and a teacher adult in the household, so we have seen no reduction in colds and bugs this year.

stringerb · 22/08/2021 01:30

We haven't. Family of 5. But then I was always very relaxed about symptoms...

Darthwader · 22/08/2021 01:32

We haven't had to isolate yet. I barely know of- anybody who has even had covid since the testing was available.

SpiesRUs · 22/08/2021 01:36

Family of four. I work in education in a town that has very high rates. Another member is in and out of people's houses with work and another is at school. I've never had to isolate.

MrsApplepants · 22/08/2021 01:48

We haven’t isolated or tested apart from DDs LF tests for school. No one in our wider family or friendship group has caught covid or had to isolate either. I’m very surprised at this and expect this autumn will bring us all down.

Mantlemoose · 22/08/2021 02:28

No-one in my family has had to. I have worked whole way through and in office most of the time plus supermarket twice a week. Been in hospital as patient and also visitor. I knowx2 people only who have had to SI due to kids testing positive and not a lot of people tested positive either.

Mintjulia · 22/08/2021 02:30

Not yet, we've been lucky so far.

Bargebill19 · 22/08/2021 02:46

No. But was kind of encouraged to lie about proximity. As in you were really that close were you, type of thing.

Bargebill19 · 22/08/2021 02:47

Were NOT!!

SilverTimpani · 22/08/2021 05:35

We haven’t. I don’t actually know anyone who has. We’re in Scotland though where rates have generally been lower so maybe that’s why.

littlepeas · 22/08/2021 05:49

My eldest ds had to have one day off school because a classmate had a false positive on a lft (PCR was neg and they all returned the next day).

We worked from home for the worst of it, but are both back in person now - so dh and I have each missed one day of physically being in work while waiting for someone else’s test result.

That’s pretty much it.

Rightly or wrongly, I am far more anxious about having to isolate than I am about the virus itself.

hellcatspangle · 22/08/2021 05:55

We haven't. We've had several near misses where people one of us had contact with someone who developed covid but we'd seen them just over 48 hours prior so didn't get contacted to isolate (we did LFTs regularly just in case)

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 22/08/2021 05:57

We’ve not. Two key workers and a child at nursery 🤷‍♀️

CarlottaValdez · 22/08/2021 06:05

Us! I’ve been commuting on the train into central London and DS is at primary school.

NelliePig · 22/08/2021 06:20

Nope :) In fact between both of our families we don't even know anyone who has actually had it! Never tested either!

Chocolateemergency · 22/08/2021 06:26

I’d have been saying us too, until two weeks ago when I caught it!
