We need to cancel our U.K. break don’t we?

Sad

DTs off isolating due to a case in their primary bubble. DTs are fine with no symptoms. We are supposed to be going on holiday next week to a U.K. caravan but their isolation does not end until mid week.

We have a policy which will allow us to move it free of cost but I am so sad it’s another one cancelled Sad

@Covidworries

You can be rest assured me and my family (and many others I know) will continue to swan around “merrily” whilst living our lives.

Been there and done that with the rules. Abided by them for long enough. Thinking of myself and my family now. Not interested in any form of social responsibility anymore.

Zotter · 30/06/2021 08:42

We cannot keep people locked away forever.

This is not what is being asked but hold on for another 2 months until all adult population have had the opportunity to be vaccinated which will bring cases down reducing risk of a new vaccine resistant mutation developing. Also reduces small risk of long CoVid which still could potentially become chronic for some, not known yet.

HelloMissus · 30/06/2021 08:46

But zotter then they’ll want to hold off because some vulnerable people can’t have the vaccine.
Then it will be for the small number for who vaccines don’t work.
Then it will be for boosters.
Then it will be children.
Then it will be because of Long Covid.
Then it will be wait for the world to be vaccinated.

motogogo · 30/06/2021 08:46

But I would not allow my kids to miss school anyway so irrelevant - mine are at university now but they missed less than a fortnight in their whole schooling to illness (fortunate) and only 3 days to trips, 2 Friday weddings and to sing in Westminster abbey, all paid professional engagements. School is important!

Don’t agree, just get all adult population vaccinated. 80% of adult population double vaccinated should be sufficient to get cases low and remain low. Agree international travel will have restrictions until higher vaccination rates globally.
Lockdownbear · 30/06/2021 08:51

And covid will become like flu, people will take the jag and think no more off it.

We don't isolate people for being in contact with flu and the time has come to stop isolating because of covid.

Scotland has had the longest and harshest covid restrictions, and look where that got them, highest covid rates in UK. Just super!

In other words social distancing only works to a limited extent. Slow the spread not end the spread.

covidsucker · 30/06/2021 08:54

DT2 has woken today very teary, tired and complaining of a sore head Sad

I’d already said I had no intention of taking them on holiday next week but now I know it’s the right thing to have done Sad

What a bummer, hope they are better soon.

UnalliterativeGeorge · 30/06/2021 08:58

When do you think we should stop this isolating of healthy people?

But the point is you don't know that they are healthy - that's the point! They could have it and not know yet and then be merrily spreading it around while on holiday. Especially given they've been indoors in a classroom with the positive case.

Zotter · 30/06/2021 08:58
  • ‘typo - lower vaccination rates, not higher in my comment above
YouthfulIndiscretion · 30/06/2021 08:59

Oh poor boy. This Delta variant really is super-contagious.
Hope none of you get too ill, and you eventually manage to take your holiday.

EleanorOlephantisjustfine · 30/06/2021 09:07

@floatingboater

Do schools check? Is this something that's enforceable or just like the app telling you to isolate?
My neighbours had to isolate after returning from abroad to uk. Someone came round to the house to check they were home and also rang them several times during the isolation period.

Well done for doing the right thing OP. I'm so sorry you've had to miss your holiday and hope that the family bounce back quickly from illness. Hope you might even get some money back?

Just think, the 95% of people on this thread who had told you to go anyway may well have been merrily spreading Covid around their destination. Quite a sobering thought and enough to make me want to avoid other people on my holidays!

Living in London and working in a school it is quite obvious it is back with a vengeance - perhaps some people don't realise that yet?

And the cases aren't all harmless in kids - they can cause long term health effects, cause people to miss much needed holidays and family events and potentially brew up another even more serious variant (all the half-vaccinated people around are perfect conditions for the latter)

wasthataburp · 30/06/2021 10:45

Don't cancel. Enjoy your holiday and don't give it a second thought

Jaxhog · 30/06/2021 10:47

Please postpone. Don't be responsible for spreading this further.

wasthataburp · 30/06/2021 10:48

To be honest it's more fool you if you don't go.

The whole thing is just ridiculous that you would even contemplate not going on holiday because someone in your kids school tested positive. Are they even ill?

Insanity.

It's exactly this attitude that will keep us in lockdown longer.

ssd · 30/06/2021 10:52

Go and bloody enjoy it

Chillychangchoo · 30/06/2021 10:52

@Jaxhog

God I bet you’re a hoot on a night out.

How long will you be spouting that line out for? Can just imagine you in ten years time …. “Well it’s people like you……”

Have a day off.

SeaShoreGalore · 30/06/2021 10:54

What's a DT? Dear Tot? Confused

Delatron · 30/06/2021 10:55

They check when returning from abroad. They do not go and knock on the doors of the 250,000 children currently supposed to be isolating.

ssd · 30/06/2021 10:55

The thing that will keep us in lockdown longer is the incompetent government. They took too long closing the borders with India and now we have the delta varient running riot. It doesn't matter how many people stay in, stick to rules and give up stuff, if the government continue to make bad decisions we're basically fucked. So live your life how you see fit.

covidcloser · 30/06/2021 10:58

Twins usually, and given one fists in front of and the other behind the positive case I think it's safe to assume it doesn't mean Tot.

covidcloser · 30/06/2021 10:59

Sits. Ducking hell auto correct. SITS

Pumpkinstace · 30/06/2021 11:02

My daughter tested positive after she was in contact with a positive case. We had tests because they were required for my work but we didn't have symptoms. I was convinced it would be negative.

She was in isolation for her 7th birthday. It was shit but it was what needed to happen.
