God it just goes on and on. Who would seriously be able to stomach another lockdown

They really are a little ray of sunshine, aren't they? On the BBC news site it says more depressing things, that there will be other viruses around that we don't have vaccines to. Are they trying to drive the public crazy? It really isn't the right message to send out.

Lockheart · 20/06/2021 17:57

Did you not realise that more lockdowns were a possibility?

Of course they are are a possibility if the shit hits the fan again. Anyone with half a brain cell knows this.

We just have to hope the govt doesn't fuck everything up again.

Viciouslybashed · 20/06/2021 17:58

I don't know why it surprises anyone that this is a possibility. I want everything to go back to pre pandemic but seems the virus has other ideas. I'm putting all my hope in vaccination programme and science finding the answers.

Trevsadick · 20/06/2021 17:59

When lockdown started in January, our school told us they were preparing for another lock down winter 21/22.

Not because it was definite but because there was a good chance of it. A colleagues son is a teacher in another part of the country and they are doing the same.

In all honesty, I think there's definitely a good chance next winter will bring another lockdown. The NHS is nearly at breaking point every winter, even if people aren't dying of covid. It wouldn't take many cases to push the NHS to breaking point.

I don't know if it will happen, but think there a good chance it will. To be honest I have given up worrying about it and just trying to enjoy now. It will happen or it won't, focusing on winter just makes me feel so much more anxious. So I am doing my best to forget it for now.

CrunchyCarrot · 20/06/2021 18:12

It's not just lockdown they're talking about, though.

Prof Semple we will see a rise in bronchiolitis and "community acquired pneumonia" in children and the elderly.

On Sunday morning, Professor Semple told Times Radio: “I suspect we’ll have a pretty miserable winter because the other respiratory viruses are going to come back and bite us quite hard. But after that, I think we’ll be seeing business as normal next year."

Boris said that the relaxing of the current lockdown rules was irreversible and of course I believed him, because he is such a fine upstanding man, how could anyone doubt the words of our great leader?
Overthebow · 20/06/2021 18:34

They said the lockdown easing steps are irreversible. They will have a massive pushback if there is another lockdown. I most definitely won’t do another lockdown.

They said lots of things they rowed back on. It's best to shape policy by what is needed, not by a promise you made several months ago when things were looking good.

You'll also have no option about whether you 'do' lockdown or not - shops / pubs / gyms won't magically open just for you.

Did you believe this?! Surely you understood it was a promise that could not be made. How could anyone know a further lockdown would not be needed?

If one is needed, it will happen.

Overthebow · 20/06/2021 18:42

@Lockheart of course pubs won’t magically open for me so I won’t be able to go to one, but there’s no way I’m staying away from family and friends again. They all feel the same so we will just carry on like normal.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/06/2021 18:45

No, but you can still see family and friends, go out as many times a day as you want etc

You could go out as many times as you wanted before, there was nothing stopping you, and the "once a day" exercise was a complete urban myth.
SpringRainbow · 20/06/2021 18:52

I expected this to be honest and I will be more surprised if there isn’t some sort of lockdown/ restrictions.

VaguelyInteresting · 20/06/2021 18:54

I’ve heard from ordinary medics that they are very concerned particularly about children this winter, particularly very young ones who have been exposed to next to nothing (comparative to other years) and expect this to mean a very very hard winter for them, if adults around them are vaxxed and mixing and distributing other viruses.

Plus a winter surge of some level is inevitable. Question is how long vaccine acquired immunity holds for, and what’s the tolerance level for community treatment V in-hospital admission in the “sick and probably should be admitted, but probably won’t die if they aren’t”.

Finally- my DM spoke to someone who works on local covid response and they told her at the start of the pandemic they were braced for 2 years of major disruption. Not sure if that was their personal take or an official briefing but tbh I instinctively agreed with them. Just seemed to make sense...

Whether any of this will amount to lockdown or not.... 🤷🏼‍♀️. But personally I’m expecting it to be another bleak winter one way or another, but expect that to be the end of it as a disruptive “pandemic”, before we just absorb it into the “cold and flu” bracket and get on with life.

PurpleDaisies · 20/06/2021 18:54

Once a day was part of the official lockdown rules. The “only one hour” was a myth. I didn’t pay any attention to the once a day exercise limit thing. I live rurally and it didn’t make any sense when you literally see no one when you’re out.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/06/2021 18:55

I know that, you know that, try telling half the posters on here that! I also mean going out for a drive for the sake of it and ignoring the 'stay at home' signs the council had everywhere!

StCharlotte · 20/06/2021 18:56

So much for learning to live with it. Sigh...

Sadless · 20/06/2021 18:56

I thought it was because of other viruses and illness we usually get but haven't because of social distancing. Nothing to do with covid.

HSHorror · 20/06/2021 18:57

They need to get on with vaxxing u18 to create more herd immunity and reduce spread.

PrincessNutNuts · 20/06/2021 18:58

If we don't want more restrictions we have to adequately control covid.

And stop believing bullshlt like "Freedom Day" "cases don't matter" and "I haven't seen anything in the data to prevent us opening up"

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/06/2021 19:00

Please enlighten us @PrincessNutNuts, what should we be doing?

colouringindoors · 20/06/2021 19:01

iminthegarden · 20/06/2021 19:04

Just stop!

PrincessNutNuts · 20/06/2021 20:05

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

Please enlighten us *@PrincessNutNuts*, what should we be doing?

An effective border policy and quarantine and a test trace and isolate system that works would be a start.

If we had those delta wouldn't have seeded itself all over the country from Lands End to John O' Groats.
