I've just seen this on my Apple News but can't view it as I don't have a premium subscription. Has anyone read the full article? Is there someone similar that this information has been published? I'm really interested in what it says and what is going to be done - if anything?

I’d be really interested in this. Since my AV vaccine first dose I’ve had a period every 19 days. Unusual for me as very regular. This is my 4th cycle like this. I’m 40 too so don’t know if it’s coincidence or to be concerned I’m going into Peri menopause a bit early

motogogo · 20/06/2021 13:14

I have had mine delayed by 2 weeks but it doesn't matter does it!

RagzReturnsRebooted · 20/06/2021 13:17

Our latest issue of Vaccine Update (for HCPs) mentioned this and it reminded me of seeing posts on here about period issues afted the vaccine. Everyone who gets them should be reporting it on the yellow card website so it's recorded as this was mainly things women had gone to their GP about, but many won't have bothered.

I'm struggling to see how on earth a vaccine could be messing with periods, but it does seem to be and it needs researching.

NeverMetANiceOne · 20/06/2021 13:17

Is it with AZ or Pfizer?

RagzReturnsRebooted · 20/06/2021 13:19

There wasn't a lot of info, but it this is what was in the Vaccine Update

Ragz - did it mention subsequent cycles or is it just the first cycle afterwards?

moto - it doesn’t matter in terms of it being great to be vaccinated but if it explains why it’s happening then I don’t need to be investigated for other issues causing it

Flyonawalk · 20/06/2021 13:20

I agree, very concerning.

The Times carries an informative article about this. It is behind a paywall but the Lockdown Sceptics website has the full article.

It is worrying that menstrual problems have not been added to the list to official side effects. The MHRA said there was no need to do so.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 20/06/2021 13:20

@NeverMetANiceOne

Is it with AZ or Pfizer?
Both and Moderna. I wonder if women who had Covid also experience menstrual issues, in which case it could be releted to the virus rather than the vaccine.
WineGetsMeThroughIt · 20/06/2021 13:21

@NeverMetANiceOne

That's what I'd like to know. But from what I've seen on here and other forums where it's been mentioned I think it's all of the vaccines.

And I totally agree that most women will not have reported this problem via the yellow card website. I didn't even know it existed until I saw it mentioned my here. But I can pretty much guarantee that if the vaccine would have stopped 4000 men from ejaculating or producing sperm it would have been pulled by now

Not enough women have reported having issues. Probably because we are used to not being taken seriously with menstrual problems.

Yes this article is from The Times

Hmm agree it is really concerning and definitely needs addressing. I was 2 weeks early after I had actual covid, but been ok after vaccine so far. Would like to know more.

Lanique · 20/06/2021 13:36

I've had two irregular periods since my first AZ jab two months ago. Have yellow carded it.

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 20/06/2021 13:37

I’ve yellow carded as well

maddiemookins16mum · 20/06/2021 13:42

I’m 56 - still (😟) having regular periods! Until that is after my first vaccine. They stopped. 5 days after my 2nd vaccine, I started my period again. I then had what can only be described as the worst pain episodes ever, I was doubled over in agony, sick from the pain, shaking, I literally felt like someone was clawing at me from the inside. One episode lasted 3 hours, no painkillers would touch it. Same thing happened the next day, at work. I had to get picked up to go home.

ChateauMargaux · 20/06/2021 13:44

Does it matter? Well, maybe, maybe not.

It needs to be followed to see if there are longer term impacts to fertility, hormone levels, early menopause, increased risk of endometriosis.. other possible outcomes. Until we know more, we have to continue to monitor this.

It might well be an impact on one cycle for most, that would be a minor side effect that we could all live with. It could have further long term impacts, these are much much much more difficult to assess and establish links but that does not mean we should stop monitoring. If it turns out to have long term impacts, it might mean we have to find a new vaccine or that the risks of side effects of one vaccine may be lower than another and that might inform policy of which vaccine to give to individual cohorts.

maddiemookins16mum · 20/06/2021 13:44

These were NOT just bad cramps, in over 40 years of periods I have never had anything like it.

PuzzledObserver · 20/06/2021 13:44

Menstrual irregularities after vaccination was mentioned by Tim Spector the other week, it’s been reported by users of the Zoe app. A small proportion, and in most cases back to normal after 1 or 2 cycles.

Also, put it in context: 4,000 cases reported out of - how many premenopausal women? Over 40 million vaxxed, half (approximately female), maybe half of those under 50 - could be 10 million.

Yes, more research needed. But not a reason (IMO) to stop vaxxing women of childbearing age.

loulouljh · 20/06/2021 13:45

It may matter it if affects fertility. Periods follow ovulation.

SweetPetrichor · 20/06/2021 13:45

Hmm, I’ve just had my first period since getting the vaccine and it was the most pain free and ‘reliable’ one in years…probably coincidence, cause mine are naturally extremely irregular, but i appreciate one easy month, even if that’s all it is!

charliechew · 20/06/2021 13:51

My daughter missed two periods. Had a phone consultation booked with the doctor for July, but luckily it came eventually. I had my period one week earlier, but not sure if it's peri as I'm 47. Both had Az.

winched · 20/06/2021 13:58

Agreed but we do need to be asking: of the example 10 million, how many were told to report? Told where to report? How many reported to friends who said 'me too but mine sorted itself' and left it at that? Only asking because my friend mentioned it to me and I directed her to the MN threads.

Also call me cynical but the whole 'the number of X is lower than the background rate of X generally' reeks of the gaslighting that was going on over the AZ rare clot issue. There were experts around the world speaking up and other countries pausing to investigate and yet that statement was still clear as day on the AZ website and being repeated in our media and all over Mumsnet.

Weeks later... oh yeah, actually we're going to stop giving that vaccine to certain demographics Hmm

Gingerkittykat · 20/06/2021 14:05

After my first AZ vaccine my period was delayed by 2 weeks.

I was really worried that something was wrong or that I was pregnant.

I then read about the vaccine and possible links to menstrual problems so was prepared for the second dose. This time I started bleeding heavily the day after I was vaccinated.

When the nurse asked if I had had any adverse reactions after the first dose I told her and she said she had never heard of that before and basically dismissed what I had said.

The side effects were not massively problematic but I would have liked to have forewarning, especially about skipping a period, so I wasn't worried about what was going on.

I've reported via the yellow card scheme now.

I agree about what a PP said, if it was ejaculation involved the scientists would be taking it a lot more seriously.

EllaPaella · 20/06/2021 14:05

I missed three periods after my second Pfizer shot.
All back to normal now.
