Heavy period after vaccine?

Had my vaccine on Wednesday and 2 days later have had the heaviest period ever. I had to get up on the night and shower - it was awful! Has anyone else experienced this?

I had the AZ and didn't notice any effects (on my period).

My first one after Pfizer arrived as normal but was a little heavier but I’ve experienced it before so I doubt it’s related.

Lots of women have reported abnormal periods after vaccination but I suspect it’s due to stress more than anything.

AFAIK guidelines say if you’re soaking through during the night; speak to the GP.

There have been several threads about this - a lot of women seem to be experiencing very heavy periods after the vaccine. There’s no obvious biological reason why we should, but it’s a very common complaint!

My period was not normal after my jab. It started, was heavier than usual for longer, then stopped, then two days later started again, super heavy, then stopped then started again, not heavy, stopped again two days later. This is completely different from my usual pattern that has been consistent since coming back after stopping feeding dc2 a year ago.

Mine have been gradually worsening due to perimenopause but my latest which was a week after my AZ jab has been in another league - think around 20ml an hour for the heaviest day. When I got up in the night to empty my mooncup and change my pad I nearly fainted because the blood loss was so fast and had to lie on the bathroom floor for a while before I was safe to sit up.
I am not convinced by the stress argument (I don’t think I know anyone in RL who is stressed about vaccines, that’s just something I see on Mumsnet) but of course my experience could easily be part of my normal peri trajectory.

Yep most horrific periods after had vacation. Calmed down now.

I love the idea of it being stress as if this is the most stressful thing women have experienced! I wish. I’ve had much more stressful events in my life and it’s never impacted my period. But of course it must be us silly women stressing rather than a medical, physical reaction.

I’m post menopausal, haven’t had periods for a few years, but had a heavy one a week after the AZ vaccine.

Yes, my period arrived on time a week after my 1st AZ jab, and was much heavier than normal., especially on the second day.

Mine disappeared and went weirdly like lochia - but there is no chance of pregnancy.

I also think suggesting ‘stress’ when so many people have been affected is a little insulting.

Mine has been a little off more clotted/sticky however it has been like this occasionally in the past and I've not had a vaccine then

How strange, now you mention it, I have the coil and haven’t had a period for over a year and I had one this month following my AZ jab!

@WhoEatsPopTarts Have you spoken to your doctor about your period? Any post-menopausal bleeding should be checked out. Not trying to scare you but it's better to err on the side of caution

Yes mine was 10 days late and so heavy I couldn’t leave the house for a day or so. I had my vaccine about 4 weeks ago and still not feeling great after it.

Mine came a week early and was absolutely horrendous, heavy and crampy. I am usually like clockwork..

Odd that you mention it but I have just started my first period this morning since my vaccination and it was 5 days late, the cramps are shockingly bad and it does seem very heavy!

I've not had the vaccination however, steroids, which are immunosuppressants, always mess with my periods. I have Inflammatory illnesses so I take steroids a lot.
So I would imagine that a vaccine, which obviously affects the immune system , could change periods

Had mine the next day. 10 days early. For context the shortest cycle I have ever had - I've recorded mine since my teens.

Yes it was late and when it arrived it was heavy and lasted for 2 weeks. My periods have been very light for years. Never have I had a period this long or heavy other than post childbirth.

This was heavy flow with cramping for the entire 2 weeks. I put it down to my age though.. peri menopausal. I did Google and apparently flooding is normal for my age 😬
