Close the F-ing boarder!!

Not sure why I'm using AIBU because I've already made up my mind that i'm not, but interested to hear the thoughts of others...my friend is an air stewardess and says she flys to India regularly in an empty plane but comes back with the plane full! I was surprised as I wrongly assumed that with all systems go prepared for the 21st, travel to the UK from India would be banned unless you are returning home to quarantine or had an emergency family/business issue to attend to. WTF is flying in from a scientifically proven covid varient hot spot still allowed when we're preparing to free ourselves from bondage? Also how come the USA is never on the red list (of course we all know why, I'm just being sarcastic). Rant over!!!

The word is border ffs!!!

joystir59 · 04/06/2021 20:49

YABU for spelling it wrong.

anunexaminedlife · 04/06/2021 20:51

I don't listen to advice about politics or international relations from anyone who writes 'close the boarder'.

Elmo311 · 04/06/2021 20:52
Grin
NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 04/06/2021 20:53

Yeah you lost me at "boarder"

Ginuwine · 04/06/2021 20:53

Is this parody? 7/10 @ilovesouthlondon thanks for raising a small chuckle here

Geamhradh · 04/06/2021 20:53

So your "friend" knows why each and every one of the passengers is entering the UK, does she? And that none of them are British Citizens returning home to the UK?
Or is she a GF like you?

Manteo · 04/06/2021 20:53

Just came to see how many people pointed out the spelling error, that'll be everyone then Grin

Rolypolybabies · 04/06/2021 20:54

Came on for a rant about a boarding school. Leaves.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 04/06/2021 20:54

Border, not boarder.

BlusteryLake · 04/06/2021 20:55

India is an enormous country and planes are currently operating at maximum efficiency (ie they wait until full to fly). One plane load does not represent a large proportion of the people who would qualify under the rules.

Toottooot · 04/06/2021 20:55

VariAnt and border are the words you’re looking for.

Elmo311 · 04/06/2021 20:56

Is that you Donald?

ColumboOnTheCase · 04/06/2021 20:59

Also it’s flies not flys 😁

HavelockVetinari · 04/06/2021 20:59

People are such dicks on here about spelling and grammar.

Some people have dyslexia.

Some people didn't have a great education.

Some people are stressed and upset and mistype.

There's no need for people to be a prick in any of those situations, regardless of how unreasonable the OP is.

lljkk · 04/06/2021 20:59

Delta is already in England & spreading fast. Should rest-world close borders to UK?

RoseAndRose · 04/06/2021 21:00

How many flights usually arrive from India?

How many flights are coming in now?

What proportion of people on those flights are British citizens?

Does your 'friend' have the answers to any of those? Or does she not have the full picture?

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/06/2021 21:02

Some people didn't have a great education.

It's true. But sometimes that means their reckons are less well informed than actual statistics. I'm assuming an epidemiologist can spell 'borders'.

And then sometimes not. But that's the implication.

As a dual national I get aggravated with this and TBH poor spelling is the cheap shot. Rather than explain AGAIN.

MaybeCrazy2 · 04/06/2021 21:03

People who point out grammar are dicks. Not everyone was in a private education- shame manners wasn’t taught to any of you.

edgeware · 04/06/2021 21:03

noa

ThursdayWeld · 04/06/2021 21:03

There is a Covid forum for this.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 04/06/2021 21:04

Fuck yeah! Toss that boarder out onto the street.

AllOptionsAreOnTheTable · 04/06/2021 21:04

Joking apart, I don't understand OP. You say ' I wrongly assumed that with all systems go prepared for the 21st, travel to the UK from India would be banned unless you are returning home to quarantine '.

You DO have to have to quarantine. In a hotel. So what's your point?
