Yet more chat about novavax, (un)blinding, general vaccine passport stress, approval (please please please) and more.
Those involved in other vaccine trials also welcome.

On another note our trial has sent us another email, basically a straight copy and paste of the latest on the NIHR website. They already sent us this so not sure of the need to send it again. I'm finding it quite baffling that they don't have more to say than what we already know. Someone at the Bradford trial managed to speak to the lead doc about it and he was quite hopeful and assuring that this was being dealt with 'at a very high level'.

Yay!

I have good news re my cruise shenanigans - the cruise company are happy that I've been vaccinated and that's all they need.

So now the countdown is on to mid-July which is the last time I could have a first dose of something else in time for US travel in October.

I think it was because people weren't finding the right content on the NIHR website. I found the 'at the time of writing (13 May)' part annoying though. Or Sarah at the Guardian has been in touch with them today...

oh fab. I was going to ask if you'd been in touch with them and in your case I was very hopeful they'd be pragmatic. I think/hope this is going to be the case in most scenarios in practice.

The thing is come July, with everyone first dosed and the vaccination programme mopping up second doses, I think there will be the potential to get two doses much more quickly than we can now, if needed. Let's cross fingers it doesn't come to that .The bloody stuff might be approved by July anyway!

ps @andadietcoke
don't you think there are some seriously odd people on the fb group!!!!
People here seem a bit more sane. I really hope Sarah comes up with an article on the Guardian soon and we get quoted!!!! (I said fine to quote but don't want to be identified)

Is anyone seriously contemplating getting an approved NHS vaccine and if you are is this safe to do so?.

I'm really miffed that we aren't getting answers. I'm still glad I did the trial but will be very disappointed if my/our good deed means we're penalised.

I did think about it but a. you get asked when you get a vaccine if you have had one as part of a trial and if you fess up they are unlikely to give you one, so need to lie b. it wouldn't be right for the trial c. there is no medical evidence that says it's safe so i don't think any of the doctors will recommend that we do so. That said I don't think there is any evidence that it is unsafe either.

I just hope that if they can't sort out this cock up that option is given to us and that we do get some kind of medical approval to go ahead if we need/want to. Many of the americans have done it (despite being paid to be on the trial in the first place!!!) - I'm quite flabbergasted tbh. Some of the Brits apparently have too (according to the slightly crazy fb group).

Thanks Frazzled. I was a bit adrift this evening with no chat! (and yes, there are some oddballs in the fb group!)

Excellent news DietCoke! Viva la cruise! (Is that proper French?!)

BG2015, Nope. Thankfully I'm not planning any foreign trips this year so I'm not even tempted, but I wouldn't have another vaccine on top of Novavax.

I'm just praying everything comes good.

ItsSnowJokes · 20/05/2021 22:25

Thanks for the tag! I would have wondered where you all have disappeared to!

Torvean · 20/05/2021 23:10

Thanks @Frazzled2207. Great news @andadietcoke.

I've not considered getting an NHS vaccine. There is no data on getting 2 full doses of 2 vaccines.

A lot of Ameticans are getting JnJ vaccine which is one injection. They're relating it to our study where they are mixing two doses.. However the study they refer to is 1 dose of Pfizer/AZ and 1 of a different pharmaceutical..

Totally different thing.

It also means they should be out of the study as theirs bloods are not solely related to Novavax.

Seems some of them get an extension to the study. Getting monitored by phone call 25$ a time.

For Scottish ppl I've been told by my study centre that they will be the ones notifying the app. No guarantee when though.

Welcome to thread 3.
The best thread on the Corona board.

Lwoj · 21/05/2021 09:18

Hi everyone, I’m on the valneva phase 3 trial. Am I ok to join you?

RoseWineTime · 21/05/2021 09:31

I’m on the Com-COV trial - can I join too please?

Frazzled2207 · 21/05/2021 10:28

All vaccine trial participants welcome I think there’s just a lot more of us novavax folk.

@Lwoj
You’re probably in a similar situation to us with having been vaccinated with a still unapproved vaccine! Hoping for clarity soon

Welcome aboard!
What's involved in the com-cov trial?

Lwoj · 21/05/2021 11:20

Yes very frustrating especially as could have had an approved vaccine 24 hours after this one. We shouldn’t be penalised for this at all.

Yup. I think we’ve read enough to believe that it will very likely work itself out however the uncertainty is pretty shitty

Thanks for the add @Torvean - I'd wondered where you'd all gone to!

And such good news for @andadietcoke!! I'm so pleased for you. We're just about to book a cruise (not leaving till august) and while we don't need to be vaccinated for this one, it will save me having to get a pcr test prior to embarkation. So I'm really hoping our cruise company will be similarly pragmatic (although never cruised with this lot before- have done countless p&o, Cunard, princess and ncl but this will be our first MSC. Eek.) Anyway, big YAY for the cruising!!!

I tweeted the vaccine minister yesterday to say I was a volunteer and felt disappointed at poor comms and the feeling that we were starting to be disadvantaged for having given up the chance to have a deployed vax - have heard nothing back. Le sigh.

Frazzled2207 · 21/05/2021 13:11

also a big yey for Spain who have said no vaccinations or PCR tests required for entry. Am a bit surprised about that tbh and wouldn't be surprised if they backtrack. If it's true though it will make going there in August that little bit easier and at least less likely to be kiboshed by lack of vaccine passport. Coming back to the UK will be a different matter though. Obviously only going if it turns green.

Tell us more about this! Is that the mixture trial? Do you know which you've had? Are you in a similar state of doom with regard to the vaccine passport?
ooh here is Sarah Marsh's guardian article
www.theguardian.com/society/2021/may/21/novavax-volunteers-in-uk-threaten-to-quit-over-approval-delays?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other&fbclid=IwAR0lzNXBQgWj7_VcVVtTABB01tZFRQB0mNDPDF7sAcO46lviPCPf0IECC7g
It still states at the end of the article that the clinical trial vaccine has to be approved before it will be added to the NHS app.

It’s like 1 step forward, 2 steps back on this trial! 🤦🏼‍♀️
