How have we gone - in the past 10 days - from:

5 cases - all men
To
30 cases, 7 deaths
To
79 cases and 19 deaths, 2/3 of them are women.

What the hell is going on?!

Yes I know it’s still low compared to overall number than have had the vaccine but that’s not reassuring when they don’t seem to have had a clue about the numbers and let us all continue getting the vaccine with no warning even when Europe was sounding huge alarm bells.

I’m 12 days post AZ, mid 30s and very upset.

Sorry title should say 19 deaths, that was a finger slip. I’ll report my own thread to be edited.

Are they going to limit the use of vaccine for younger people or not?

AzureTwist · 07/04/2021 15:34

Worrying. I have 3 blood clotting factors and am under 50, over 30, and had one dose of AZ.

HolmeH · 07/04/2021 15:36

Interestingly Europe have said to keep vaccinating.. we are being more cautious. They’ve undertaken a big review and I imagine it takes time to obtain a full data set from all hospitals. Several deaths may not have even been linked until they’ve asked hospitals to re-review in the last couple weeks.

What I don’t understand is deaths were between 18-79 years old in the U.K.. so why say the under 30’s?!

Dingleydel · 07/04/2021 15:37

Anyone else dining the U.K. briefing confusing? Clear that the ‘benefits outweighs the risks’ but maybe not for younger people? So young people may want to avoid getting the vaccine?

ChristinaYang10 · 07/04/2021 15:38

What I don’t understand is deaths were between 18-79 years old in the U.K.. so why say the under 30’s?!

They are explaining it in the press conference now. Balancing out benefits from the vaccine by age group vs risks. So for 20-29 year olds the benefits are least and risks are highest.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 07/04/2021 15:38

Out of how many jabs and how many similar deaths would be ‘average’ per month normally?

Boringlynormal · 07/04/2021 15:40

Age range of deaths from 18 - 79 so why the ban for under 30s?

OP posts:
HolmeH · 07/04/2021 15:40

Oh I see @ChristinaYang10 - I guess that makes sense. I’m 31.. I wonder what my additional risk is for two extra years of life 🙈

Noname99 · 07/04/2021 15:41

I’m not ‘young’ .... in my 40s and supposed to be having the vaccine next week. But if it’s AZ, I shall be saying no. Much rather take my chances with covid .... I have no risk factors for covid so very likely it’s going to be a mild infection for me. Mild cough/cold type symptoms vs blood clot on the brain .... easy choice as far as I’m concerned!

TheGoodEnoughWife · 07/04/2021 15:42

@Boringlynormal

Age range of deaths from 18 - 79 so why the ban for under 30s?
Because the benefits of the vaccine aren't greater than the potential for less deaths or hospital admissions in that age range.
Noname99 · 07/04/2021 15:43

‘Boringlynormal’

Due to risk / benefit analysis of potential outcome if catching covid at below 30 vs developing clot issue. It swings to the negative at under 30

TheGoodEnoughWife · 07/04/2021 15:44

Nope, worded that wrong!
The potential of less hospital admissions and or death are not greater than the risk from the vaccine for that age range!

Sunshinegirl82 · 07/04/2021 15:44

I know you are really concerned about this OP but I really think you are causing yourself a lot of extra anxiety with repeated posts etc on this.

You have had the vaccine now and it can't be undone. The guidance has only changed for under 30's and even then it's only "if possible". You are not suffering from any side effects at present and have educated yourself on what to keep a particular eye out for in terms of symptoms of those side effects.

You don't need to make a decision about your second dose for several months. I really think you would feel much better if you stepped away from the news on this for a bit, I can't see that it's helping you.

I am 38 so I do get where you are coming from but if I'm offered the AZ vaccine I will still take it. In spite of these issues you significantly increase your chances of staying well by taking the vaccine and reduce your chances of staying well by not taking the vaccine.

stevematekatemate · 07/04/2021 15:44

I’m finding this really worrying. I had my first AZ jab this morning.

Roszie · 07/04/2021 15:45

My son is due his second one in a few weeks and he's 23. WTAF

Fieldofmemes · 07/04/2021 15:48

19 deaths means 12 more dead than previously reported.... in less than a week? When did these deaths actually happen? If they were since January and only just reported, that might be more reassuring...

rainbowunicorn · 07/04/2021 15:49

If some of you bothered to actually go and watch the press briefing rather than jumping up and down on here all these questions would be answered.

Please read up about your relative risks before making this drastic decision. JVT in the press conference has just shown slides showing the relative risks, and the fact is that you are WAY MORE at risk from covid than from a VERY RARE risk of blood clot from the vaccine.

I have no risk factors for covid so very likely it’s going to be a mild infection for me.
There is no evidence that you can predict your likely response to covid in this way - some very young people with supposedly 'no risk factors' have been left chronically ill with long covid.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 07/04/2021 15:50

Personally I have been very pro vaccine but I am very concerned about getting the second one (I have had one dose AZ).
Are we going to see a large increase with the second doses? There haven't been many second yet to the extent they have said it is too early to tell.

LlamaDrama20 · 07/04/2021 15:50

@Roszie

Virtually all side effects occurred in the first two weeks after the jab. Did he have any serious side effects? If not, he shouldn't be worried.

Watching it right now. Too early to say about second doses is what they have said.
2boysand1princess · 07/04/2021 15:51

Did they say anything about when the risk drops to zero? How many days after the vaccine are you at highest risk of developing the clots?

puffinkoala · 07/04/2021 15:51

Mild cough/cold type symptoms vs blood clot on the brain .... easy choice as far as I’m concerned

Except for the very real risk of long covid. Especially in women over 40.

I would still go for the vaccine if it were offered to me.

Roszie · 07/04/2021 15:51

@dramallama. None at all, he's been absolutely fine. I missed the start of the press conference. Will they still give under 30s the second dose.
